Q: Drawing a square in canvas

SamzSakerzI have a canvas that is drawing a circle with predefined bounds. canvas.drawCircle((float) (getBounds().right / 2), (float) (getBounds().bottom / 2), (float) (getBounds().right / 2), paint); and now I need to make it draw a square instead of a circle. so this is what I modified (getBounds().r...

@dessert Oh oooh...
I'm in deep trouble! :-(
Ah: A way out:
> I'd say this is something I would strongly discourage, except when the emoji is an essential part of the question (and even then, some babysitting is needed).
(emphasis mine) @dessert

10:59 AM
@Fabby See backup2l (not backup21!) in Ubuntu packages (well, I have some changes in /etc/backup2l.conf but I think the changes are irrelevant for our discussion about cpulimit).
@Fabby I think backup2l is a Bash script, so it probably cannot check CPU utilization itself

@porton Ah! Sorry!
Was having a smoke.

@Fabby Why? I expect you to write a competing answer so brilliant you get more UV for it than terdon for his. Are you up for the task? ]:)

@dessert :thinking:
Nah, I'm going to interpret Terdon's answer as:
Whenever I use emoticons, they add substantial information to the post.

11:54 AM
@porton I've deleted all my comments as the answer is now 100% correct and useful! ;-)

12:07 PM
@Fabby fair enough, but be aware that I will comment with a link to that meta question on every single post of you containing emojis and the like if they may not be essential ;)

@dessert :P
@porton You should delete yours as well as it looks like you're talking to yourself now...

expl0it.pyToday I installed Ubuntu 18.10 and ran rkhunter on it. At first it said that there are 4 possible rootkits, but after second check it detected 7. During checking there was everything green and ok, except one warning: Checking for suspicious (large) shared memory segments [ Warning ] B...

Q: Does VLC supports changing audio samplerate using GUI option in ubuntu

Chakravarthi PradeepI would like to change audio sample rate in VLC GUI option. Audio samplerate can be 32000Hz,44100Hz, 48000Hz and 96000Hz.These sample rate will be generated by the capture device ( capture device either camera or fpga). However, when VLC try to render it will always render at 48000 instead of 320...

@Fabby Can you give me a clue why this answer is getting votes to delete?: askubuntu.com/a/975412/307523 I want to vote along but would like to know the reason it was instigated...

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Oops. Checking...
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I dunno...

@Fabby I'm tempted to delete both answers just to clean up the thread which is closed as duplicate anyway :p

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Ask Ravery...
Could be a revenge vote.

@PerlDuck I was tempted to vote along with you against serge to reopen the find names only question.
@Fabby Screw it. I'll just vote along to delete anyways :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Herd mentality.

@Fabby Moooooooooooo

3:04 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Always make up your own mind, never follow the herd.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix He added another possible dupe which fits better I think.

@PerlDuck I posted a comment that basename duplicate could be another reason for closing too.

<---- very proud of soldering Micro USB 2.0 female receptacle back onto PCB of wireless keyboard yesterday after signing up for Electrical Engineering on Stack Exchange :)
I even took pictures and might post a self-answered question there :D
@Fabby +1 for Amiga, but shouldn't Android squeeze in there somewhere in your answer? :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I once tried to repair a USB credit card-shaped stick when it broke and it had my colleague's important data on it.
(it was the NAND that broke, not the controller chip, so the work was to no avail)
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Damn! Next time!

3:10 PM
@Fabby Female receptacle fell right off the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) in my case. Totally different scenerio.

;-)
@WinEunuuchs2Unix It was female, so it was trying to run away from you...
>:-)

@Fabby lol... makes sense now :p Actually when USB cord was plugged into my keyboard to charge I'd forget and get up from couch causing cord to yank out at odd angles many times over the years.
BTW Android is ext4 file system: According to an ARS Technica article, the reason that Android switched to ext4 from YAFFS2 for its file system is because YAFFS2 is single-threaded, and "would likely have been a bottleneck on dual-core systems." Android, even back in 2010 was looking forward when many cores could be used in Smartphones.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yup.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Ah? So you were trying to run away from her???
:D :D :D
Anyway: need a smoke and a drink!
CU L8R!

@Fabby I kept pulling the plug on our relationship the wrong way :P

@WinEunuuchs2Unix :D :D :D

Q: Cronjob not executing, but command works

JasperI have a server (Ubuntu 18.04) that is supposed to execute a Django management command at a certain interval. (every day at 16:30) I have setup jobs like this before, using cron but for some reason the server fails to execute my cronjob. The line that I am trying to run is as follows, its using ...

@Zanna I read your comment about belated xmas and pre-mature new years so: "Happy December 31st Eve" :)

lol
thanks!

4:32 PM
Good evening @Fabby @PerlDuck @WinEunuuchs2Unix @Zanna ... I wish you a happy new year (in advance) ! :) ... and everyone else here as well - of course. :)

thanks!

@cl-netbox Thank you!

@cl-netbox Premature happy new year to you too CL :)

@Zanna You're welcome ! :)

@cl-netbox (Are you planning on being too drunk to wish us a Happy New Year on the moment itself?)
;-) :D
(I'm the chef on duty: 1 Vegetarian, 1 gluten intolerant, 1 carnivore, 1 intolerant to tomatoes)

4:35 PM
@Fabby Remember too many cooks spoil a brewski :)

@Fabby Honestly ... this time I don't get what you mean ... no, I'm not "too drunk" ... :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I have to cook for that mix. Only 1 cook.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Thank you, Rick ! :)

@cl-netbox Weird seeing reality (Rick) in this artificial world :p

@cl-netbox Well, you're 2 days early, so are you planning on being very drunk from now on till New Year (was the joke, but if you have to explain it...)
Not a good one this time...

4:37 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix For me there is not much difference, we are human beings who just are passionate about IT things - right ? :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yeah, weird...
Talking about food: need to go turn on the oven...
BRB

@Fabby Two days ??? Well, here it is December, 30th ... seems you are already having had too much vodka ... hahaha ... :D :D :D
@Fabby Also, who knows if I'm going to be here tomorrow ... :)

@cl-netbox Actually I don't really like "IT things" that much. I'm more into Data Processing / Software Development "things" instead. But yeah I guess you could lump them under the "Information" umbrella.

@cl-netbox that's a good idea!
@cl-netbox :D
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Ah! Back when IT was still called EDP (Electronic Data Processing)

By the way, congrats for what you've achieved on AU this year @Fabby @WinEunuuchs2Unix @Zanna ... great job - well done ! :)

4:46 PM
Meh, I'm moving towards U&L as I'll migrate away from Ubuntu in 2019...

oh thanks again. It's nice that it's always easy to contribute in some way here and get a little I'm doing good happy feeling

@cl-netbox Have a look at this one It contains a few jokes:
All USB cables are equal, but some are more equal than others.
I mentioned both the Commodore 64 and the Amiga in an answer on Unix & Linux!!!
:D :D :D

@Fabby seen my reaction ? :D

@cl-netbox :D ;-)
90% of all IT problems can be brought back to Drivers and Cables....

@Fabby Which distro did you decide to switch to ?

4:50 PM
@cl-netbox I dunno yet: Fedora KDE or Manjaro KDE.
I'm going to try both on a USB stick in live boot.
(Need to buy a few new USB sticks)
My old one is really battered now...

@Zanna Starred :)

@Fabby no ... I say : nearly 99,99999 % can be "brought back" to impatient users who are not willing to learn the minimum of basics ! :D

@cl-netbox :D :D :D I'm talking about the 0.00001% of real issues!
;-)
Back to kitchen! BRB

@Fabby hahaha :D :D :D

^^^^^ Last three posts are 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999 % confusing :/

4:59 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yours or mine?
Or OP's?

@Fabby Mine was fourth last where I starred Zanna's comment, not part of last 3. :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Ah, here in chat!

5:14 PM
@Fabby You were totally asleep at the wheel in Unix and Linux so I took care of this one for you: unix.stackexchange.com/questions/491601/…

@WinEunuuchs2Unix See inbox.
>:-)

@Fabby haha I read that you funny guy :P

@WinEunuuchs2Unix :P
Back to kitchen!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix How is this confusing ? @Fabby said : "90% of all IT problems can be brought back to Drivers and Cables...." - and I said : "nearly 99,99999 % can be "brought back" to impatient users who are not willing to learn the minimum of basics". :)

It was too confusing figuring out if 100% minus 99.99999999999999999999999999999999% really equals 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000001%

5:22 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix hahaha ... the master of maths ... :D :D :D

@cl-netbox and @Fabby and more to the point I was teasing you guys about exaggerating with decimal places :p

@WinEunuuchs2Unix only a matter of how often one types a number ... :D :D :D

@cl-netbox See my "Big Number Calculator" I wrote in Python a couple fortnights ago: askubuntu.com/questions/1098530/…
I need to revise it next year with fractional returns, ie: 112.579874 GB as an answer.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix +15 points for you ! :)

@cl-netbox Haha thanks, but I only through that out there cause we were on the subject of big numbers :P

5:27 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix You're welcome ! :)
@Fabby Forgot to say : KDE is deprecated starting with RHEL 8 ... too many problems ... so I recommend to get used to GNOME. I've done it - was happy with unity before. Believe me, once you've got used to it, you'll like it - the workflow is quite intuitive. :)

I'm still using Unity, too lazy to learn the quirks of Gnome, i3, Deepin, etc.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix makes no sense on Red Hat based systems. :D :D :D

@cl-netbox We use Red Hat at work, but I haven't tried it at home

@WinEunuuchs2Unix You should try out RHEL 8 Beta ... you will see that it is a very modern system - seems to be based on fedora 28/29 ... even RHEL 7.6 (latest stable edition) is not what people previously considered it to be. :)

5:44 PM
@cl-netbox I try to mind my own-beta-business....LOL
I stopped being a beta guinea pig decades ago. Another reason for still being on Unity Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS I guess :)
I just want a computer that works with little maintenance!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I've never been a beta guy ... but there are VM's, you know ... :D
@WinEunuuchs2Unix not ubuntu 18.04 ? ubuntu-18.04-server seems to be a good (modern) system. :)

@cl-netbox Yeah I had to use a VM for the first time to record GRUB boot menu cause my smartphone camera kept auto adjusting light: askubuntu.com/questions/1102422/…
@cl-netbox Can't see any reason for running server version yet...

@WinEunuuchs2Unix ubuntu-18.04-server doesn't need much maintenance - or am I wrong ? :)

@cl-netbox I don't know. I kind of like the Desktop version for doing stuff like accessing this chatroom LOL

@WinEunuuchs2Unix next 10 points ! :D

5:50 PM
@cl-netbox Haha yeah I noticed that. I should just sit here and link you my answers all day long... LOL J/K

@cl-netbox Oh... :-(

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Well, I think as long as we have a reputation system, it's okay to give/receive upvotes - everybody appreciates it (including myself) ... although some members always pretend that it is completely unimportant for them ... whoever believes it ... :)

Everyone thought food was wonderful and it was just some leftovers thrown together...

@Fabby Glad your dinner party went well!

Meh, just the three flatmates. Tomorrow is the party!

5:56 PM
@Fabby often the best you can eat ... a good cook (sometimes) makes the best food from leftovers. :)

@cl-netbox Actually, my saying is:
Anyone can cook black lobster and make it taste great!
The difficulty is to have meatballs taste like the best beef you've ever had

6:26 PM
okay, I'm gonna leave ... goodbye @Fabby @WinEunuuchs2Unix ... have a nice evening. :)

@cl-netbox You too and ...
... if we wouldn't speak before Jan 1st:
@cl-netbox Happy new Year!!!

@cl-netbox Thanks CL, it's been fun :) Happy NEW YEAR!

I try to get a Necromancer badge with the following answer, supporting votes are very welcome. :)

A: How do I install dcm2niix?

dessertIf you find a package on https://packages.ubuntu.com that means you can install it using apt and this exact package name, provided you have its repository (universe in this case) activated in your software sources. If you don’t or don’t know, you can do so with: sudo add-apt-repository universe ...

@dessert +1 and Happy New Year :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix thanks and the same to you, but isn’t this a bit early?

@dessert Haha conditioned by Fabby and CL-Netbox saying that a couple hours ago!
