Q: Switch capslock and ctrl with config file on ubuntu 18.04

Rivers ShallRecently, I tried to switch capslock and ctrl on my Ubuntu 18.04. I did it by add the following line into my .bashrc: # swap capslock and ctrl /usr/bin/setxkbmap -option "ctrl:swapcaps" This worked, but in an awkward way. Every time I logged in by GUI, I need to start a new terminal to activ...

02:47
How many partitions does LVM support?
03:31
@Fabby Yeah, I (was) the pencil :^)

3 hours later…
06:55
So.
I redesigned this page: daylight.quickmediasolutions.com

1 hour later…
08:10
Morning
I'm looking for information regarding making the system notifications more noticeable
define more noticable
@JourneymanGeek I have 3 monitors
My main one is on the left
If I look at either of the other screens, I will miss the notification completely.
On windows, it pops from the side and makes a noise.
I'm looking to customize it somehow to make it more noticable, either to move it to the currently active monitor/workspace, or make a sound, or both
hm.
What does ubuntu use for that?
08:15
18.10 has this centralized gnome thing
(currently mucking about with UFW so I'm a bit grumpy over ubuntu's NIHness)
It appears at the top center of the main monitor, and is added to a list of notifications that appears when you click on the clock at the middle of the tray.
@JourneymanGeek Its national institution of healthness?
Not invented here.
though, this we can blame on gnome ;p
08:29
It's especially not noticeable since the title line of all windows are in the same color as the notification itself....
._.
that might be themable
Happy Holidays !
how can I find out what graphics card I am using on Ubuntu 18.04 ?
lshw would work
I have a software that needs to use Intel graphics card but my Ubuntu is pointing to Mesa
oh
@gansub intel's driver is built around mesa
iirc

Q: I need to point to Intel graphics card drivers on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. How can I do that?

gansubI am using this software VAPOR3 and the developers of that software want me to use Intel Graphics card drivers rather than Mesa. How can I do that ? When I type glxinfo | grep opengpl version I get these messages OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center OpenGL renderer st...

@MadaraUchiha now that I complined and removed and reinstalled UFW.... it fixed itself
now to figure out the fiddly bits
@JourneymanGeek any suggestions ?
ah
I'm moooostly on CLI so I'm not going to be much help
ok thanks

3 hours later…
11:51
@boomt14 That however rings a bell.
@gansub you're on Intel drivers already. Have you tried taking a system backup using CloneZilla and then removing mesa drivers?
any of y'all good with UFW?
I think one of my answers is completely wrong, and I need some broad sanity checks ;p
@Fabby I have a self-answered question that is a sort-of-network-related question you might want answer: askubuntu.com/questions/1104017/… One of the other guys answers is going to pass me soon in votes :p
12:07
@WinEunuuchs2Unix No I can't, but have an upvote.
Now I'm going to test it out as I have the same problem every now and then and calling yourself on Skype doesn't work.
I normally skype someone else to call me!
:-)
@Fabby When you test the command remember you need to check instructions for phone numbers outside of Canada/USA for special prefixes...
@WinEunuuchs2Unix It works.
@Fabby You should post that in comments...hehe
The only message you get is "to customize this message, get a key" but that's all I need!
@Fabby Yeah a key costs $3 for 20 texts (15 cents each) up to $40 for 1200 texts (3 cents each).
12:12
@Fabby thanks for your support . I tried removing the mesa drivers. But I am getting some weird unstable error messages. So I reinstalled them back
@gansub Talk to the software devs. They shouldn't be asking you this.
can you give me the exact commands for removing them and the order ? If you can answer my question I would be glad to give you credit by upvoting it
oh ok @Fabby you are saying it is an error on their side ?
@gansub No, as that would mean I need to:
excellent would love to push this back onto them VAPOR guys
take a full system backuo
remove nvidia drivers
test
provide feedback
restore system backup.
not worth 10 rep.
2
12:14
@Fabby I get it. I will certainyl push it back onto them next week when the offices reopen
(sorry)
@gansub Yup
I was so upset when one of their developers asked me to delete mesa
when i did it i got some weird unstable error then i reinstalled it back
Which nVidia drivers? I found version 384 works really well.
but I'm on GeForce GTX 970M...
@WinEunuuchs2Unix If I want Intel and mesa to be available on my system to be able to answer @gansub's question.
Too much work.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Before you go look: no bounty, you rep-whore!
:D
@Fabby Haha don't tell Windy but I got xmas present of 300 bounty points when I woke up: askubuntu.com/questions/956444/…
12:18
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I have a findmyphone bash script now but
{"success":false,"error":"Only one test text message is allowed per day.","quotaRemaining":0}
@Fabby haha read the fine print... that's already in my answer :p
I need an average of 5 if I have mislaid it in the house.
It'll still help me if it's close by...
Otherwise I'm back to the backup system: Telegram / Skype someone to call me.
o/
Might be easier to buy 5 phones then.
12:20
@Fabby Check out the other answer by Terrace "Google find my phone".
@PerlDuck Hah! YUou don't know me: I'll lose all 5!
Actually google's phone finder's the smart way
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I don't want more Google stuff.
Use the one phone you just found to call the other 4 phones?
needs a cli though ;p
@Fabby a few things. It even works if your phone is on silent.
12:21
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I don't want more Google stuff. cc @JourneymanGeek
@JourneymanGeek I agree because you can use google from Windows too
Also if you have an android phone...
@Fabby no google account on the phone?
@JourneymanGeek I do have one, because I need one, but I like Google to have as little information on me as possible, therefore:
Then attach a keyfinder to the phone and keep whistling.
No google DNS, no cookies anywhere, no google search (Startpage or bing), no Chrome, most google apps disables, no location active, no 3G/4G active unless I need it.
12:23
@PerlDuck actually...
I had a particularly annoying BT tile type device
@PerlDuck That's what I'll end up doing. It only happens once per month...
@Fabby So there's a few elements here. 1) you need to locate your phone...
You know my phone always has bluetooth turned on. I was looking for a method of having my laptop make it sound out but couldn't find any software....
trianglation from wifi access points?
BT beacons?
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Nice idea! But then you need another phone to find your phone.
Mmmh. Let's start a company and make such a device???
Find all your Bluetooth devices including your car with this device!
12:25
@Fabby My laptop has bluetooth too and is setup to pair to my phone when commanded to.
Only 15$!
Hey dude! Where's my car (a movie 15 years ago?)
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yeah, you and me, but average Joe?
Average Joe is drinking six-pack and too drunk to find his phone anyway :p
Do it like caretakers do: attach the phone to your belt.
12:26
Just push one button and all your Bluetooth devices capâble of sound start screaming!
@Fabby If I wanted to do this...
Navi -> Matrix -> ???
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Perfect public!
(navi is a CLI matrix client. Matrix is a chat system you can run yourself)
12:27
@PerlDuck Yeah, I used to do that with my motorola 20 years ago.
You can install an Android app that let's your phone act as a bluetooth speaker. Then you can pair to your computer and play the song "OH WHERE OR WHERE CAN MY BABY BE?"
Yes, it's so 90ies.
then use the message to trigger off volume being turned on, and making loud noises if there's a specific message
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Nah, you record your own voice:
@PerlDuck I sometimes wear my phone in a little pouch on my belt
12:28
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Here! I'm he-e-e-r-e!! HERE! HERE! HERE!
Standard voice is me yelling that!!!
Maybe next year google will come out with a smartphone soldered to your head? Then it can track you in the shower too :p
:D
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I've had naked customer calls from the shower already!
@Fabby TMI....lol
(last one 2 years ago. California calling me really late knowing I would be the only one awake!)
So those underwater cellphones they sell are really for the Fabby types that like to take it into the shower :p
12:31
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Nah, normal phone in my trouser pocket lying on the bathroom floor while I'm taking a shower.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some years ago when hands free kits and BT in cars were new, a colleague bought a new BMW and tried to connect his NOKIA to the car. The NOKIA searched a while and then (proudly, I'd guess) said: “New accessory found: BMW”
4
Image the astronauts: "New accessory found: International Space Station"
@PerlDuck :D :D :D Starred!
@Fabby I starred first :P
@WinEunuuchs2Unix So, how about this new product that has a major selling point "total privacy! BlueTooth only! Works up to a distance of 10 meters.
12:34
LOL. Thank you both. Fun to see that a little David considers the Goliath to be an accessory.
Google can probably control little David to crash and kill Goliath (hopefully airbags still work though).
umm Just Kidding! ^^^^^^
@WinEunuuchs2Unix bluetoothfind.com is still available!
>:-)
AFK. Food!
@Fabby it says site not found....
13:03
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yes... That's what I meant: we can still register it for our product...
Design & Engineering in the US and the EU, manufactured in China...
>:-)
13:18
@Fabby When you said you can only send one text a day in bash, was that for the same phone number or you mean all five of your phones?
@Fabby do Intel and Mesa go together in 18.04 ?
or are they independent ?
This might help explain nouveau, mesa and nvidia drivers: linuxquestions.org/questions/debian-26/…
@WinEunuuchs2Unix thanks for the link but does it help my case though ? I need to tell the developers whether or not the problem is on their side or not
@gansub can you link me your question so I know what's going on?
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Here you go - askubuntu.com/questions/1104385/…
I would love to push this back to the developers because they have been telling me that the problem is on my side but hey any evidence you give me to the contrary would be a slap on their face
13:26
@gansub So your question is how do you turn off MESA? and has nothing to do with nVidia at all?
@WinEunuuchs2Unix yes exactly
when I turn off MESA on my box I get some weird unstable error messages
and it scares me because I have got a stable 18.04 instance
No but I am not running XUbuntu
But looking at that message only reinforces my belief. In 18.04 Mesa and Intel are hand in glove
xUbuntu and ubuntu are the same thing when it comes to the low level linux kernel drivers. You can also boot with an older or newer kernel version to see if those drivers work better.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I only have 2 SIMS in one phone.
Lemme try the other one.
13:35
@Fabby Thanks. I'm curious if 1 / day limit applies to the sender or the receiver.
13:54
@Zanna Haven't see you in chat for eons. Hi :)))
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Sender
findmyphone DE
{"success":false,"error":"Only one test text message is allowed per day.","quota Remaining":0}
@Fabby That's a drag. They used to have a limit of 3 / hour and you could have your own text message. I guess the free system because too popular and they had to reduce it.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I somewhere read it has to do with the sender's IP. Maybe reconnect your router and try again?
@PerlDuck You mean reboot the DSL modem/router thingy?
haha note technical term "thingy" :P
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yes. If that changes your public IP. In my case it does. Well, I don't need to reboot, I can just click "reconnect" in its GUI.
Btw, I'd never had guessed your Q&A about texting would become so popular.
14:01
@PerlDuck lol as soon as I found a post on another site my gut instinct was it would be hugely popular.
I just free texted my phone a couple of minutes ago from bash to use up my daily quota (of one) and it tickled me pink!
Well, I found that question boring in the first place. Sorry. But it has become quite interesting now.
I'm thinking of automating my daily backup (via cron) to text my phone when it completes so I don't accidentally reboot too soon in the mornings.
@PerlDuck Thanks for the boring vs interesting confession. I wish more people would post answers with other free sms providers though to open up the field.
But then it gets more and more unrelated to Ubuntu.
It already is, to my mind. It's more of a lifehack.
@PerlDuck That's another reason why I want more texting from bash answers. To keep it more on-topic.
I'd hate for the mods to delete the question after 2K views in 2 days!!!
@PerlDuck Now that you mention: lifehacks.stackexchange.com if the mods migrate the Q&A over I wonder if I loose Ask Ubuntu rep points earned to date on the Q&A? They made me max out 200 rep cap 2 days ago and this could be the gift that keeps on giving for me.
I wouldn't expect the post to get closed. It has only 1 DV (not me) vs. 31 UVs.
14:12
I have a fan that loves to downvote me I think :(
luckily most fanatics vote the other way :D
@Fabby could you edit my answer sometime saying only one text per day by sender is allowed? Right now it says only one text per day to smartphone is allowed. I already edited the answer once today and don't want to be accused of bumping it to the home page too often :(
Yes, votes often are a mystery. I sometimes wonder why questions with no research at all and no responds to any comments get upvoted. However.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Editing...
@Fabby Thanking in advance....
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Edited
@Fabby Thank you!
Tomorrow I'll test rebooting router to see if I can send two texts in a day.
14:25
@WinEunuuchs2Unix When writing my comment about a modem I was actually thinking of monitoring software (Nagios, Check_MK, Zabbix, Icinga, …). They (can) send SMS via an attached GSM modem to alert the people in charge. No further internet service involved, just the SIM card's regular carrier as if you'd written the text on your phone.
@PerlDuck But my SIM card is on my missing smartphone...LOL
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yes, you would need a 2nd SIM card just for texting from the PC.
Besides I've deleted that comment and many more cause I don't want mods to move everything to extended chat :(
It's not feasable for "oh I lost my phone, where is it again?" but for texting without limits.

Q: Lubuntu - G_Is_Dbus_Connection

MaciekI have just installed Lubuntu on VM VirtrualBox. When I run an app from terminal, eg. firefox, it works but terminal pops up some warnings. It's not about firefox, the same issue with other apps. But if I start the same app not from terminal and then open terminal and run the same app from t...

14:30
@PerlDuck Another option to text without limits is to email the carrier of the phone number. To get the carrier name you can use this website but it is robot proof: freecarrierlookup.com
I wonder if I should expand my answer with emailing carrier option???
@WinEunuuchs2Unix You should for the international users (and remove the note I just put in)
@Fabby I just used the email option and it works perfectly :)
Plus get custom text message, and unlimited per day!
I can have Linux texting me all day long now for the silliest things!!!!
@WinEunuuchs2Unix For free?
by emailing the operator?
@Fabby Yes... I'm updating my answer now... done in 10 minutes
14:52
I'll soon be preparing a sauce whose original name translates to whore style.
@PerlDuck So? Post the original?
15:05
@Fabby Given your cooking skills I'm quite sure you know the original. Does "alla puttanesca" ring a bell?
We sell hose out of our warehouse. You should hear how some people laugh at me when I say "hose" at work. LOL
@Fabby @PerlDuck I've updated answer with your comments plus added in option of emailing "phone_number@carrier_provider.com". Here: askubuntu.com/questions/1104017/…
@PerlDuck :D :D :D I thought there was a German dish that had the same kind of name.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Checking.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix You are referring to "a sauce whose name …", don't you? It sounds odd to me as well ("whose" is only for people, I think) but there is no "whichs". What would be correct then?
Isn't there a short form for "… the sauce the name of which …"
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Neither of my operators provides this service.
@PerlDuck In Canada "hose" sounds like ho's which is a group of prostitutes.
@Fabby Damn BRUSSELS! Why don't the sprout wings and fly away :D
15:13
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I have bothe a Belgian and a German SIM.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Ahh, makes sense now.
The German SIM is a corporate card and it says "Invalid number"
:D
@Fabby Why don't you try a carrier lookup service based in EU instead?
@WinEunuuchs2Unix :/ They're both in the EU?
@Fabby I mean instead of https://freecarrierlookup.com/ something like: https://freecarrierlookup.eu/ or https://freecarrierlookup.gr, etc.
If you find one that does list your carrier let me know please...
15:18
@WinEunuuchs2Unix My private card is a pre-paid card, so it's normal that it doesn't have this service, and the German one is a private (unlisted) number
@WinEunuuchs2Unix So I'm just SOL...
@Fabby Oh well in that case you would have to know your carriers website address and just key it in?
The pre-paid does list the carrier, but SMS service over email is not available
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I probably have to have it activated by my IT department for the corporate card.
@Fabby Well at least Plan A of using textbelt.com still works once a day! You can have Linux message you your grocery shopping list at 4:30pm daily :D
>:-)
Awww it's started to snow lightly whilst we were conversing this Christmas morning. If only a guy could bottle up the weather and sell it :)
15:33
Aw - no Python 2 in Disco!
Merry Christmas to all of you
@Takkat Thanks. Merry Christmas to you too!!!
@Takkat I assume "Disco Ducked Python 2.7" comment is related to this: Python2.7 not working in 18.04, python3 is installed
@Takkat Likewise :-)
@Takkat I voted to close along with you on the "Disco Ducked PY 2.7". If you change your mind please ping me!
I recently installed U18.04.1 (fresh install) and also had the impression python2.7 is not installed by default in the first place. But after installing some other apps it was there (apparently as a requirements of those apps).
And apt list python2.7 shows it as installed,automatic.
15:52
Yes if an apt needed 2.7 it would install it as a dependency right?
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yes. I'm not sooo familiar with building "deb" packages but with "rpm" packages. There you write a so called "specfile" (specification) and if the package builders put a line "Requires: foo" in that file then it will require the package "foo" when being installed.
When the app is then installed via "zypper" (similar to "apt", but for the RPM world) the dependencies will be resolved and "foo" would be installed (after confirmation).
@Fabby Day is half over and I'm already a bounty hunting rep "who" as you say :P
16:14
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Please read this comment. Takkat was mistaken.
@karel well, why should it come to us in a live session if it is not installed otherwise? But I checked with 18.10. where it is not present.
hey it's @Takkat! Long time no see
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Because we don't really know what version the OP installed (the tag issue is fishy!) I redacted my close vote
Hope you're having a merry christmas :)
@Takkat some of the live session software is not ready for p3 yet :)
and a merry x-mas to all too :-)
16:18
@Seth It is - quiet time of the year :)
The live session contains GParted whereas the regular installation doesn't. So there might be other differences as well.
@Rinzwind like probably many other apps as well ;)
Takkat never the same since breaking the streak :(
@Seth I ended procrastination and scraped off 3 year old painter drops on hallway linoleum 1/2 hour ago LOL. How is your xmas?
@PerlDuck ubiquity is the main one iirc :=)
16:19
Merry Christmas everyone!
4
@WinEunuuchs2Unix haha. I only woke up an hours ago.
@jokerdino Merry cheistmas!
I spent the day in bed listening to the Top 2000 :=)
Hi Joker - what a looong time we met :)
@Seth I fell asleep on couch last night watching movies. Woke at 3:30 went to bed couldn't sleep so got up at 3:45 :D
Nice to meet wonderful people around this time. :)
16:21
@jokerdino Thanks! Merry Christmas to you too :)
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I can't do that :P if I have a tv or radio on I can never ever fall asleep :P
@Rinzwind turn down the volume a bit and don't tune in action movies.
Sleep is a privilege we gain at Christmas :)
@Rinzwind I never used to fall asleep on the couch until my side with the recliner broke. So I started folding up laptop lid on coffee table and laying down on couch to watch movie on big screen and Ubuntu/Internet on second not quite as big screen. A recipe for falling asleep!
oh you can listen live here nporadio2.nl/top2000
16:22
Die hard is not good for sleep
What those Die Hard movies aren't dead yet? :P
@Takkat Die Hard has been nominated as a x-mas movie despite Willis claiming it not to be >:)
@WinEunuuchs2Unix we have had ALL of them TWICE already overhere. 2 stations did them back to back
All movies that play around this time of the year are ;D ;D
My favourite: Brazil
sound of music was on 3 times already
Exactly. Also that movie with Geena Davis and Samuel Jackson.
16:24
The long kiss goodnight @PerlDuck ;)
1987? 88?
Yep :-) I love it. She's so cool
They screen Sissi at present.
damn 1986 :D I was close
@Takkat I just googled "Brazil" don't recall every watching it. I'll find it on the net and watch it today. thanks!
Krampus :X Karate Kid
16:26
@WinEunuuchs2Unix it is in good Terry Gilliam tradition. Lots of deep black humour.
Brazil is a great movie indeed
@NathanOsman I've heard of it. I'll check it out, thanks.
Slade <3
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Hoe? Whore? Hooker??? >:-)
For the New Years Eveneing we (in Germany) have "Dinner for One".
16:27
@Rinzwind They played them every hour yesterday
@Takkat 1885 in the top 2000 :=) now on
@PerlDuck same procedure than last year ;)
@PerlDuck Huh? Everyone gets a different dish?
@Takkat I like the girl in the dreams part of "Brazil". In real life this girl has been in my dreams for the last month and it's never happened to me before.
from now till the end of 31.12 it is top 2000 enjoyment
16:28
@Fabby Guilty as charged :P
with queen on 1 again :P
:D
@Fabby You don't know "Dinner for One"?
@Rinzwind What is top 2000? Like songs you mean?
Nope, but I suppose it's not dinner.
A movie?
SMOKE! BRB...
16:29
@WinEunuuchs2Unix yes yearly tradition here. People hand in their top 10 songs of all time and then they do the top 2000 in order.
@Fabby A comedy sketch. Read this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner_for_One
Sissi is just getting married here - she does that every year.
@Takkat I once was in her bedroom.
That must have been a dusty experience ;)
@Takkat the slut :=)
16:30
I thought Sissi was a "he". The military dictator of Egypt.
No, @WinEunuuchs2Unix, it's short for Elisabeth. As in "Queen Sissi" :-P
She may have been a he, who knows?
Only the transgender gods know...LOL
@PerlDuck So Queen Elisabeth the I or Queen Elisabeth the II gets married every year? LOL I'm confused.
Well, she had kids, so I'd exclude certain biological inconveniences here.
Empress of Austria rather than queen
Oh Austria... never hear about her unless they hold a Russian Diplomat's plane and search it. Looking for Snowden I think. Hard to remember. It was years ago.
16:35
Queen Lizzy is still married. With that guy who delivers words so nicely.
@PerlDuck Wouldn't that be a hoot if @Fabby was really Edward Snowden in disguise? :P
@WinEunuuchs2Unix LOL Indeed.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix No, I'm a Vorlon in an encounter suit!
0:-)
@PerlDuck Ah.
16:52
@Fabby It's very famous in Germany and recently I read it is widely unknown in the UK although it is a British piece.
Like Benny Hill: widely popular in Europe, Wales and Scotland and abhorred in England
17:04
Benny Hill was popular in Canada too but I don't think I've every watched it. Or if I did it was by accident and forgot.
I know the name and the face looks familiar but I could not tell whether it was from a TV show or whether he works at my local grocery.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix hi!
@Zanna How's the UK today... still cold?
I'm floating a rumour that @Fabby is really Edward Snowden in disguise!
looks like it... we usually leave the heating on all day and don't go outside on xmas day, so can only say it was foggy and dull-looking
17:18
@Zanna Everything is closed here on Christmas Day. So I'm spot steam cleaning carpets and scrapping 3 y/o painter spots off floors LOL
@Fabby Ahh, yes, I've seen them. Similar to Stan&Laurel which I liked at the age of 12 or so. Still (a bit) funny.
:-)
@WinEunuuchs2Unix sounds productive :)
Now take this: In Germany the shops closed at Dec 24, 1PM (some at 1:30) and will/must not open before Dec 27.
@Zanna Haha have to do something to stop from getting cabin fever. I actually have 11 days off in a row due to forced use up 1/2 of vacation time before year end or loose it.
@PerlDuck Yeah in Canada most shops open to 9 pm close at 4:30pm I think.
17:21
hopefully the unanswered questions list will become shorter XD
@Zanna Yeah sorry I haven't been doing my part with review queues :(
I mean answering questions
and I was just kidding
:)
Oh well I feel guilty I don't do enough time researching questions and posting answers too blush
It is taking me a few hours up to a few weeks to write software answers these days :(
you are doing a lot more answering than me hahaha
Your answers are way more professional and polished than mine though!!!
I do try to answer all the easy questions (for me) where I know the answer off the top of my head.
But I probably initiate close voting more times than I post an answer....
17:26
me too :/
@Zanna Please take this as a compliment, I consider you the Ask Ubuntu professional librarian :)
5
thanks, that's a kind way of putting what I do
:)
In Canada you need a University Degree to become an assistant librarian these days.
or great flattery haha
I gotta go, sorry :/ small crisis
OK nice chatting :)
continues reading steam cleaner manual
17:32
Steam cleaners a great for the sink, especially for the drain. Do you have a brush connected to yours?
@PerlDuck A picture is worth a thousand words :D
@PerlDuck In the netherlands some supermarkets are open on the 24th and 25th. 1st time ever though b :)
@Rinzwind On our way to the 24/365 economy...
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Whoa, that looks professional. I have a "Kärcher" an love this thingy:

LOL. Nah, it's a set of four. You only use on at a time. And better don't scrub your forehead with these four heads.

Q: Ubuntu 18.04 installing from .sh file problem

Lidan SuidanI'm trying to install the latest version of xdm on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS from the official website http://xdman.sourceforge.net/ .. I can't install .sh file & also have other third-party installation problem! enter image description here // sudo ./install.sh Initializing setup... Extracting files....

I am facing smth a little bit weird. I receive 20 bytes of data via a Unix socket,
when trying to read the first 2 bytes everything works fine
@Fabby nope. 24/364. 1st of Jan is mandatory closed.
but when I do a second call to read in order to read the remain 18 bytes, it blocks
any idea why suddenly read is blocking?
@traducerad If it's like a FIFO pipe you need to close the writing process first I think.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I believe writing 20 bytes can happen atomically
Besides that I write the 20 bytes, wait 3 seconds and only then start reading the 2 first bytes

@traducerad Sorry I don't know very much. I would research if the writing process is holding a lock preventing the reading process from accessing the socket.

@Fabby and @dessert After our conversation 1 or 2 nights ago I thought you would appreciate my self-assigned homework project above :)
