@Fabby Come out here! 17° right now :P

Nice! Got woken up by a mosquito..
... any of those around?

not yet.
Actually, a few. Not many yet.
:45421842 Seattle!

12:34 AM
:D
Looking on the wrong coast...
Didn't know it was that cold there at this time of year.

It's usually not.
Well, ok. 10 years ago it was. Then it got hotter. This year can't decide if it wants to be cold or hot.

:D Global warming!
(it looks like all the added CO2 is going into the oceans and turning them into Coca Cola instead)
We're worse off with Climate change than with Global Warming...

Q: how to remove duplicate from my question?

plutesciI have asked a question and it had been linked to something entirely different, from what I needed or wanted. my original post Next step for my First Program? NOT MENU ANYTHING

@PerlDuck I'm an old fart and I've gotten used to reading in-between the lines.
(aka : I'm intuitive)
but much less so than @Zanna who is so good she can write answers to questions like:
"It doesn't work! What should I do???"
And then posts an answer that gets accepted and where I'm going:
How in hell did she figure out that was the problem???"
@GreatUncleBulgaria o/
Do you remember when Ubuntu switched from Init to Systemd?
(15.10 first systemd version???)

@Fabby LOL, I'm impressed. To be honest: at first I thought "how dumb can one be and not identify the temperature line from a list of numbers when it's labelled temp and has °C as a unit." But I was wrong, the Q was actually another.

Yup. that was my first impression as well.
(for about 1 second and then I knew what he was rambling on about)
:D ;-) :D

Hi]

user136984
How are yay?

@GreatUncleBulgaria OK, how are you?

1:10 PM
\o

user136984
Ok

far too hot outside :P

15.04 was first systemd version!

no

user136984

@Fabby German (sorry for that) wiki says they started to switch with 14.10 and since 15.04 they really did.

Fedora was the 1st :=)

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy: Youra famouse!

user136984
Amigo!

1:20 PM
@Rinzwind how do you change the RW attributes of a /sys/class file?

eh sys is virtual

fab-root@fab-ux-predator:~
$ cat /sys/class/backlight/*/max_brightness
11
fab-root@fab-ux-predator:~
$ echo 10 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/*/max_brightness
tee: /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness: Permission denied
10
fab-root@fab-ux-predator:~
$ ll /sys/class/backlight/*/max_brightness
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4.0K Jun 29 20:56 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness
fab-root@fab-ux-predator:~
$ sudo chmod a+rw /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness
fab-root@fab-ux-predator:~
Ah!!!
ll /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jul  1 13:47 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0/backlight/acpi_video0/

:P

Another Powerwolf song from the new album

@Rinzwind stumped again...
there is no pci in /dev/
and locate pci0000:00 gives zilch, so how do I enable RW on a /sys/class device file if the standard is RO

1:29 PM
bottas out \o/
@Fabby no idea :=D
I never mess with sys ;p

:D

@Fabby Re: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/45425353#45425353 Whatever "started to switch" actually means. Perhaps as in "As of April 1, the UK will switch from left-hand traffic to right-hand traffic. Gradually."

Trucks first, cars next.
:D

:-D :-D

2:00 PM
@PerlDuck Sorry for having asked, but it doesn't work anyway and here's why

@Fabby I think you are confusing me with s.o. else?

No, the deleted answer is why I asked you that in the first place.
(I knew 14.04 was init and 16 was systemd)
I just didn't know which was the turning point: 14.10, 15.04 or 15.10...
all that work for nothing!
can't be done...

@PerlDuck But thanks for telling me!!!

? >:)

2:06 PM
@Rinzwind the OP wants to intervene in that...

@Fabby I'm sorry. I'm just a little dwarf here and cannot see the unseen deleted posts.

Ah! 10K Rep needed..

@Fabby n00bs :=)

@Rinzwind maybe that'll still be useful for my machine... testing now.
(rebooting)

WHOA
TMO updated the customer care system
it auto-directs you to a rep now
instead of defaulting to the robot
I just wish it wouldn't tell me every 5 seconds that all the reps are currently busy

2:19 PM
busy drinking coffee

@Rinzwind Yes. It's so unfair. (kidding again)

TMO's hold music is playing George Harrison

Austria F1 is jummy.

@Fabby 15.04

@Rinzwind doesn't seem to work. debugging.

2:28 PM
F1 is more important >:-D

@TheWanderer Didn't work... (see deleted here and new here )

@PerlDuck panics

Yes <3

@Zanna LOL. No reason. You'll have enough time to get used to it. The right-hand traffic will only be introduced at April 1 next year. Just start practicing next week.

2:55 PM
"5G LTE"
wat

3:08 PM
OK, I am lost. How is the linked one not a dup of the question asked? askubuntu.com/questions/1051233/…

3:25 PM
Note for anybody trying to upload a package to their PPA: failure from PUBKEY error is not your fault. The LP keyservers are having some trouble. Just try again until it worked.
(took me quite some time and a really fast and helpful reply from Colin Watson to find out)

@Terrance it's a cross-post
a delayed crosspost

@Terrance well I mean it's on a different site, but why he's asking here again when he already has a question about the same thing there is beyond me

it has been 4 months

Thanks guys! That is exactly what I was thinking

I left him a comment.

3:31 PM
@TheWanderer My thought exactly on that one. I wonder why OP has not answered to the answer written there if it works or not?
OK, you guys are much nicer than me! I couldn't think of a nice way to ask.

1 hour later…
4:46 PM
way to go Russia! :)

3 hours later…
7:28 PM
@TheWanderer do you have any ideas on this? I'm bashing my head against the wall, lol stackoverflow.com/q/51126269/6122159

are you sure that exception is thrown from where you think it's thrown?

8:00 PM
pretty darn sure
@TheWanderer the only place that I call lockCanvasAndDraw(); is inside my main rendering loop

you should share the code

8:24 PM
@TheWanderer Ok, I added a minimal example class that still exhibits the problem to the bottom of the question

you're using a while loop in a thread without any delay
I bet you're overloading and the next runs of that function are being queued to run
you should really be using RxJava's Observable for async stuff

@TheWanderer in my actual code, I'm only drawing inside if (elapsedTimeSinceLastFrameDraw > REDRAW_SCHED), otherwise I'm doing Thread.yield()
currently I have REDRAW_SCHED set at 16ms (for 60FPS)

I guess I could, I just ported this code from another app, lol
and btw, that other app had the same crashing issue.........
but what I really want to know is why is my surface being GCed or something before I return from surfaceDestroyed()

because the lesser-used parts of the Android framework break

8:36 PM
:|
that still crashes too, btw
Even giving it 25 milliseconds between calls

so use the frame callback

Yeah, I'll do that. But, I think this is an Android bug

8:56 PM
@TheWanderer so how would you suggest registering for a repeated callback? The docs say that your callback is called once and then removed.

that's definitely not true
I use it in BoredSigns
oh wait

just call postFrameCallback from inside the callback

but if the Choreographer is synchronously iterating through a list of callbacks to call, then wouldn't any callbacks added to that list while it's still being iterated though get executed also?

try it?

9:07 PM
yeah, I'm trying it rn. So what do you do for BoredSigns?

1 hour later…
10:07 PM
Good night girls!
