9:10 PM
So . . . all the things I have learned to answer questions here, kinda seem to naturally kick in when I see a question I can answer or think can answer. How does that work with school though ?
Like, with just regular classes and learning, it can be the opposite: see a question, have no idea how to approach it

9:23 PM
Is postgresql really slow-thinking or is it normal that I enter 5 times DROP USER and it won't do a thing ?
I hate databases already :)
Semicolon
A fricking semicolon
Goes into a very dark room, locks himself there, and screams all sorts of profanities

But where's plums ? :)
Also, where's my grammar ?

:D
Gimme 1 minute:

Semicolons in SQL are going to drive me insane. It's like a live perl interpreter, except with everything capitalized

OK, now you're making me hungry :3

9:47 PM
I'm making me hungry!
But unfortunately, it's the dessert for Sunday-evening, where everyone brings one dessert and tomorrow evening I still have to make chocolate mousse.
(because we're three people going and I'm the cook)
SMOKE!

But . . . . you're the cook. Can't you make one for yourself for tonight :3
O_o

@Fabby huh?

I'll go for a smoke as well

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Last jar of plum jam from the garden from last year...
I've been holding on to this one for 4 months now.
Another 4 months before the next one!
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Where does that come from?
@dessert Am I confusing everyone again?

10:04 PM
@Fabby essential sql training, a video series on Lynda.com

@Fabby no, that was just a pun

Apparently SQL is whole lot different than any other languages

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy It's old...
Not as bad as COBOL, but...

Well old or not, I've a class to pass
Frankly, I wouldn't mind learning Fortran. I've actually a book about it, just never got a round to reading it

SQL is pretty simple. Just install sqlite.org/index.html
Basic SQL is the same across all DBs
it's when you come into do advanced stuff like cluster indexing, storing BLOBs, ... that they differ.
Largest MySQL DB in the world: FaceBook.com

10:32 PM
Already did. I'm gonna be doing two tutorials. Postgres and sqlite. And potentially the class might be either on Oracle database or Microsoft Access
Or Microsoft SQL server. That's only 3 things that my school uses

10:48 PM
Access! [retching sound]

Which actually doesn't seem too bad. I was helping a mongolian girl last semester to do some of her homework, and I've never touched Access before
Basically, seems like Excel , just in different packaging.

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy It's actually FoxPro in a different packaging.

So many databases, so little time
Clocking off. See you guys later

11:38 PM
access is terrible. it shouldn't even be in office. i wrote a UI for someone that asked me to build one at one point, and we wound up using raw database edits anyway, because they just wanted excel - it just had to be called a database
