8:10 PM
Wat
The data arrow images I used are black
Why are they white?
At least I know they aren't showing up under the signal bars

8:23 PM
C'mon Amazon... send me my screwdriver!

no

@Seth:
Comic Sans is gone.

That looks pretty good @NathanOsman!

Answer has been edited then.
:D

Looks cool! I like the font.

8:34 PM
It's called CHAW.

boo it's not a chaotic font :P

@ThomasWard Now I'm curious for an example of a chaotic font
Meh, OP asks for performing something recursively, I write a two-meter find command that does the job, then he comments that he actually didn't want recursion.
I even gave them a non-recursive and recursive example and they picked the second one.

@NathanOsman yuck for font :p

@NathanOsman Want me to DHL you mine?

DHL? He'll never get it

8:48 PM
Whoa, that guy has 7 diamonds and is nominated for an 8th on Workplace.SE stackexchange.com/users/251740/rory-alsop?tab=accounts looks at @terdon who has only two... ;)

perfect

@ThomasWard I said "font", not hieroglyphs.

@ByteCommander so you don't read ChaosScript?

Expecting latin letters there...

8:49 PM
aka 'Unitology'

it's like Android is forcing the arrows to render as white...

@ByteCommander :P

ARGV! How the heck can this be done? My find command is already two meters long.
Ok I also want to tell the find command to only move folders with a certain filetype inside, so that it will only move the folders with .jpg files in for example — Johnny 3 mins ago
And OP keeps happily adding new specs...

@ByteCommander tell him to stop adding specs
or tell him to edit and put ALL the specs he needs
(not that last one, I'm currently wielding a Chaos Hammer, which we don't want me swinging in the mod system right now >:D)

Aww...
Anyway, LE SIGH

8:53 PM
Hahahaha

So I need a nested find in a find?

Having an evil mod is endlessly amusing
@ByteCommander ugh what hellish mess is this?

@Johnny It has been suggested in chat that you keep changing the specs of what you're asking for. Please state all the things you need the commands to do, so that we don't have to constantly revise scripts just to adjust to a new specification. — Thomas Ward ♦ 19 secs ago

user136984
@NathanOsman Yes, the link they provided was to something in that app store.

user136984
I think that's what they call it anyway.

8:54 PM
@Fabby Thanks but I'm good.

user136984
The subdomain name suggested that.

Amazon is saying they might get it here before the end of the week, so that's good enough.

@Zanna Enjoy it with me askubuntu.com/a/880548/367990
@ThomasWard Thanks, I've seen it already

@ParanoidPanda Are we talking about the Java obfuscator?

user136984
@NathanOsman: Yes

user136984
8:55 PM
The link the guy provided in his answer.

user136984
It's to a play.google.com address.

Oh. I didn't see the other answer.
It was posted after mine.

user136984
@NathanOsman: That would explain the confusion! I only saw the answer I got notified about! I didn't notice your answer! :D

His answer looks a little suspicious too...
You don't say anything about Android but he assumes it.
Assuming things in answers is a tell-tale sign of spam.

user136984
@NathanOsman: Are you on Ubuntu by the way or another distro? I can never remember which of the mods are running different distros.

user136984
9:08 PM
Actually, it's probably the same with Ubuntu what I've got as an issue... How exactly does one manually install the Oracle JDK? Because I have the tar.gz file and I have unzipped it, but what do I actually do with it? I'm sure I put it somewhere but I just can't remember where as it's been such a while since I've done this manually.

I am on Ubuntu, yes.

well you know ONE mod who's on ubuntu
glares at @ParanoidPanda

user136984
Ah, well, I'm a traitor now that I'm on Arch. >:P

@ByteCommander o.O have a +1 in solidarity

So... the easiest way is probably the Webupd8 PPA:

user136984
9:11 PM
@NathanOsman: I don't have that on Arch...

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java9-installer
@ParanoidPanda Wat. Arch?

user136984
But the manual installation method should be the same across distros...

user136984
I'm on Arch Linux now.

Arch Wiki is one of the best sources of knowledge around.

user136984
Oh, I didn't think of looking there for some reason... But I looked everywhere else! :D

user136984
The AUR is an insecure user repository that can only be accessed through a special program and the web interface. You are warned that any user can upload anything there so it's probably not the best idea to get stuff from there.

It's like PPAs for Ubuntu.
Anyone can create a PPA and upload to it.
Just like anyone can upload PKGBUILDs to AUR.

@ParanoidPanda lol

user136984
@NathanOsman: Yes, but the PPA for the Oracle Java installer in Ubuntu is maintained by a team with a good reputation... Stuff in the AUR is maintained by just random users. I would trust them less as I don't know who they are.

Well, we're no longer dealing with a technical problem but a psychological one now :P

user136984
9:17 PM
I mean, I know I also don't know the people in the webupd8team, but still, they are a well established team.

user136984
These are just random people.

Yes, welcome to the Internet :D
All of that being said...
PKGBUILD files are pretty simple to read, so that you can see exactly what it's doing to your system.

user136984
@NathanOsman: Well, there is a manual way of just copying the tar.gz file contents to the right place in the file system and setting the environment variables. I know this because I used to do this, I just don't remember quite what this was.

They are waaaaay easier to read than Debian packages.
Here's the commands that it's going to run on your system: aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=jdk

user136984
I would just read the Oracle installation instructions, but for some reason my system doesn't recognize the characters on that page.

9:20 PM
I can capture a screenshot for you if you need it.

user136984
That would be helpful.

What's the link?

user136984
This should be it.

user136984
I think...

It's in Chinese.
Is that the language you want it in?

user136984
9:23 PM
No... I was hoping for English...

user136984
How on earth did I get to the Chinese section?!

Let me see if I can find the correct page.

user136984
No wonder my browser couldn't understand it...

user136984
That's strange.

user136984
@NathanOsman: Right... Thanks! :)

@NathanOsman but he blocks images

@ByteCommander applause

user136984
@NathanOsman: It still doesn't say where to install it to... Where does the webupd8 PPA install it to do you know?

I'm not sure.

9:41 PM
I thought it was /opt.

user136984
I always though it was in /usr somewhere. I think a sub-directory in there.

@ByteCommander Rory is special that way.

user136984
*thought

user136984
I guess it doesn't really matter where I put it...

user136984
/opt it is then!

10:01 PM
@Zanna Sorry, had to revert your edit as it doesn't add much value. If you click on the Risk of Dietary Toxicity in the source - it has max. limits for every person - children, adults incl. pregnant women. As with any supplement there will be problems if taken in excess, so not sure why it needs to be called out as such. — sv. 27 mins ago
Who dares revert my edits?! (It's not on AU)
rage quit SE for the day

We'll miss you those two hours.

Lol :)

why do HTML comments have to be so hard -.-

It's called Hard Text Markup Language for a reason... ;-D

haha

10:07 PM
Just like the recursive acronym PHP for "Programmers Hate PHP" - or "PHP hates Programmers".

@Seth Hard?
<!-- comment goes here -->
They are standard XML comments.

@NathanOsman compared to // or # yes.

@Zanna not me

it's even more characters than C style comments :P

@Seth Wait until you start using Django's template language...
{% comment %} thing {% endcomment %}

10:09 PM
@NathanOsman eww

Jinja2 at least has:
{# comment #}
@Seth Luckily you will very rarely need to use comments in templates.

@NathanOsman true

@NathanOsman I believe JSP looks the same

JSP doesn't count as a thing.

@ByteCommander double eww

10:11 PM
what then?

I just got an offer to raise my credit limit.
But... they want to know my annual salary.
How does that work when you're self-employed...?

@NathanOsman how much money do you put into the bank net when self-employed, after taxes?
or, how much money gross do you earn
in a year
hence annual salary
since you're still paying yourself

10:28 PM
I guess I could give last year's figure.
I could give them the amount before taxes that I claimed as income on my income tax.
It's through my bank, so it may even be easier to just walk in there and sort it out.

@NathanOsman whenever I get asked for annual salary it's usually the gross amount earned
not net
so i'd be at $23k right now
for my 'annual salary'
taxes whittle away at that but I get that back with tax refunds :)
oh and fun fact those refunds aren't taxable >:D

Same here.

@edwinksl :) <3

10:45 PM
calls forth a summoning vortex, to summon his more evil self for mod queue burning duties

user136984
Well...

user136984
Goodnight folks! :)

A great Darkness has swept through the flags queue, and cleared most of it away with Flames of Evil and Darkness. Darkness Moderator returns to the shadows from whence he came

@ParanoidPanda good night :)
anyways, that's cleaned up now
aaaaand, i'm bored again

@NathanOsman lol, that's what happens when someone overthinks syntax :p

oh goody i have to go to class that ends at 9:30PM >.>

10:55 PM
Chrome is doing it again ಠ_ಠ
MP4 files are not properly reloaded with +

anyone who enjoys Jazz around?

randomly appears in a burst of chaos, fire, and darkness

mysteriously disappears when the smoke settles...

11:47 PM
@ThomasWard I lost four points because a user was removed.... Why couldn't you remove the people that down-voted me instead so I'd gain points :D Upload to follow:

grabs a phaser rifle
want to ask that question again?

ducks under tittanium shield
Did it disappear?
Or you mean rephrase it?

@WinEunuuchs2Unix who says I removed it, and why do you care about a measly 4 reputation points

@ThomasWard I didn't say you removed the user. It's just that a user got deleted and everyone he voted for lost points right?
Oh you mean the user deleted his up-vote?
I just care to understand what's going on... the points are trivial

the user was removed. either user-requested deletion or otherwise.
it's a dead user.
hit that learn more link on your reputation page in your profile

11:53 PM
I wonder how much everyone else lost...this is interesting

I'm back to 1 rep.
(j/k)

hehe...funny guy

I should have made a joke about my sock-puppet.

I wonder if Zanna, Serg or Muru lost points today too.
Did you loose points for a user getting deleted today @NathanOsman or @Seth?

Nope.

11:59 PM
Well you don't answer many questions in AU lately right?

nope

sets @NathanOsman to 1 rep

Not a lot compared to those other people :P
@ThomasWard I have sock-puppets with more rep. than that :D

I could ask a go question and you could answer Nathan... I need 8 more questions on separate days for my next badge :p

bans everyone and sets everyone to 1

11:59 PM
Including you?
