5:01 PM
good too, besides the headache of looking for a place
at least I'm about to visit two places today and one tomorrow
let's see what they got

@Zanna still around?

@Rinzwind I CHALLENGE YOU TO A POST WAR

@KazWolfe I need 25 more rep to end the day
there have a +1 >:)

Behold, my first move. You only need 15!

user136984
@ThomasWard: It's very strange, I no longer get errors for applying those patches with quilt... What do you think that was about?

5:07 PM
@KazWolfe <3

should I answer with this link? askubuntu.com/a/77991/61218 :P

No no no anwar
You need your computer in a sealed vault at the bottom o fthe ocean

@Rinzwind There have one from me ! :)

woot
yes 205 <3
@KazWolfe I am winning >:)

:,(
b-but talking about the why not just the how to pseudo-security

5:16 PM
@Rinzwind great ! :)

@Rinzwind you forgot the link

@KazWolfe that's experience >:) I give what the want to see :D

@IanC Where do you search ? In Rio or Sao Paulo ?

@Rinzwind so, my upvote won't benefit you now?

@Anwar wtf it is IN the A?

5:18 PM
Sao Paulo @cl-netbox

@Rinzwind no. it isn't

so you don't help them with the underlying problem.

yes it was when I edited :P

You care more about rep than giving them real solutions?

@KazWolfe there is no problem >:-D

5:18 PM
check revisions.

@KazWolfe I disagree that there is problem linux can fix. the user is the problem :+)
2

that's why i'm explaining

@IanC Hmmm ... not easy to find something in a good and safe area - I know, I once was there for about six weeks. :)

Writing to a socket closed by the remote peer hangs?
I don't understand this behavior.

@NathanOsman the socket knows nothing about the peer closing it :P

5:20 PM
Why not?
TCP has a FIN packet.

then I retract my statement >:)

also RST

@NathanOsman does this help: stefan.buettcher.org/cs/conn_closed.html >
?

which is a raw way of finishing a TCP connection

there. fire!

5:23 PM
well, I should be getting ready, going to see one of the places
see you all later!

bye!

byez

@IanC good luck ! :)
@IanC see you ... :)

thanks!

5:27 PM
@Rinzwind Now I have to translate that to Go... :D

@Anwar oh christ.

@NathanOsman sorry :D
@Anwar lol

Good, I get to use a flag.

rofl!
please don't try! ;)

5:29 PM
@KazWolfe which flag are you using?

@Anwar Custom.

to remove the answer?

Yep.
Or edit out password.

I'm editing

@Rinzwind Now I need to figure out how to get at the raw net.Conn from an SMTP client... :D

5:30 PM
it'll still be in the revision history

ok. flag then.

@KazWolfe Mods can purge it upon request.

Is that really their password though? I thought the OP was using a random one.

...if it contains sensitive data.

2 mins ago, by Kaz Wolfe
Good, I get to use a flag.

5:30 PM
Although... really... I'm not sure a single character repeated is much of a concern.

@NathanOsman Dubs! I'll let the mods choose if it is or isn't, but still...

Like, nearly every password cracker in existence could catch that one in a second or two.

@NathanOsman Yeah. Especially not 111111. I mean, if your password is actually 1111111, as far as anyone who wants to "hack you" is concerned, they may as well know it already. Doesn't make much difference. That will always be one of the first anyone tries.
Oh, well. Jinx :)

Just as long as he doesn't have openssh-server installed.
Or port 22 is blocked by his firewall.

Yeah, I'll leave it. The OP didn't care, this isn't particularly sensitive (we'd need to first find the OP's machine to use it), it has probably been changed since (the answer was posted in 2014).
Marked the flag as helpful though.

5:34 PM
OK.

"it has probably been changed since" Warning: too much faith in humanity detected.

its from 2014. so ... if anyone hacked him it is already too late

@NathanOsman Well, OK. Especially that part of humanity that uses 111111 as a password :)

We used password 123 sometimes :D

@terdon using a simple password is stupid

5:35 PM
@Rinzwind sort of, what's needed?

@Zanna just have 1 comment :=D 215 >:)
OK I need q's with "command line" tag for 2 more answers so if anyone sees one ... tell me :+)

@Rinzwind Are you competing with her for monthly rank?

@Anwar nope. I am heading towards Legendary :D 8 more to go
and today I matched Oli's 142 days of 200+ rep :D

aha! You made 3 more!!

sure did

Q: What justifies an edit?

DavidHow big of a change should be needed before an edit is justifiable? For example a small grammatical error bugs the crap out of me, but I am too hesitant to fix it, whereas sometimes a question is either not written in "real" English, or not written well, and I feel like I should edit it, but what...

@AskUbuntuMeta a single char can justify an edit

no. It needs 6 chars

@Rinzwind indeed, depending on the char...

user136984
I want to listen to a Queen song on YouTube, but for some reason they decided to make it inaccessible for me. Is there a way to bypass YouTube restrictions?

@Rinzwind w00t :)

5:39 PM
@Zanna like ar >:)
ooh gonna use that.
@Zanna where is that topic you edited from nathan :D

@ParanoidPanda you could use a proxy or search for another link for that song ! :)

@ParanoidPanda nope. use piratebay to download it >:)

:D :D :D

@Rinzwind lol!

Hi @Anwar ! :)

5:44 PM
@cl-netbox hi :)

Hi @Zanna ! :)

110 more today
let's do this!

user136984
@cl-netbox @Rinzwind: Too much hassle. :P

lol

hahaha

5:45 PM
@ParanoidPanda 1 hour greatest hits
works for me

user136984
@Rinzwind: Guess it's probably in there somewhere! :D

mamma!!!!!!!!
oooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooohoooooooooooo
@ParanoidPanda the 1st few seconds has a tracklisting
by the way.... "1 hour greatest hits" I am not a queen fan but aint that blasphemy? 1 hour? that's it?

user136984
:D

I was once asked to make a 1 hour session of prince songs :P
to show how diverse the music was he made
impossible to do :X

user136984
I love this song! :D

what link I'll visit to see questions tagged with my favorite tags?

@ParanoidPanda too queer for me >:)

user136984
:D

Hmm, that might be my filter.

5:53 PM
@ParanoidPanda FLASH!
aha!

user136984
@Rinzwind: Yeah, that was a funny song. I think they did a few like that.

yeah a whole album even ;)

@jokerdino Thank you. Is there any other for AU? because that one is late on updates

@Anwar Hmm not sure.

TIL [tag:ubuntu*]
it doesn't work here?

5:58 PM
Looks like nope.

I tried to create a filter for a single site, but failed. I uses all favorite tags from all sites

Create a new filter?

Yes. I tried to create a new for a single site. didn't work

Just for Ask Ubuntu

hmm...what was I doing wrong!!?

6:03 PM
Click all the buttons haha.

let me try again
how do you separate tags? comma?

Click 'Add Rule' and add another tag.

aha!

Yes!

I was trying to add them one by one in a single line

6:08 PM
Hope it works

Thanks :) working now

Excellent.

Hello all, I have a painfully simple question: how to I restart a program? (ie. pulseaudio)

It would be better if we could add all tags in one line though. Anyway created one stackexchange.com/filters/260723/linux-fav-tags @jokerdino

kill, xkill, sudo killall have all failed to stop the program... so confused...

6:17 PM
@jenboi hi. pulseaudio -k will kill it

@jenboi kill it

will try -k

pulseaudio --check

did not work,

to check if it is active

6:17 PM
Also, the reason kill probably didn't work is because you missed the -9 flag. This sends SIGTERM.

Maybe it's already dead?

Well, then of course you can't kill it :P

when I try to restart, I get the err : already running
right, yeah...

@jenboi should be sudo pulseaudio -k

I don't know what -9 flag is?
will try

6:19 PM
@Rinzwind did you find it? It waa about accidentally removing dpkg

the -9 is part of kill
@jenboi do a
ps -ef | grep pulseaudio

E: [pulseaudio] core-util.c: Home directory not accessible: Permission denied
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Failed to kill daemon: No such file or directory

Hmm...

@jenboi are you running it as root?

It's running it as another user...

6:20 PM
@Anwar no >:)

@ParanoidPanda me too, and the video as well

ps -ef | grep pulseaudio
jenboi 17957 1 0 11:17 ? 00:00:01 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
jenboi 18037 12312 0 11:20 pts/1 00:00:00 grep --color=auto pulseaudio

~$ pulseaudio -k
rinzwind@schijfwereld:~$

@na

@cl-netbox hello :)

6:21 PM
@nathan is the terminal root?

ah it did not kill t :D
sudo pulseaudio -k
[sudo] password for rinzwind:
E: [pulseaudio] core-util.c: Home directory not accessible: Permission denied
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Failed to kill daemon: No such file or directory
plot thickens :P

So long on this...

Q: How do I recover from accidentally removing dpkg?

harshil jainBy mistake I have removed dpkg from my pc (ubuntu 16.04). When I am running apt commands, it was showing error : Could not exec dpkg! E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (100) Can anyone suggest me any solution to this. Thanks in advance !!!

Is pulseaudio undead??

6:22 PM
pulseaudio -k
rinzwind@schijfwereld:~$ ps -ef |grep pulseaudio
rinzwind 3960 1124 1 20:22 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
see -k keeps it active too
something is keeping it alive see->
ps -ef |grep pulseaudio
rinzwind 3960 1124 1 20:22 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
rinzwind 3968 3853 0 20:22 pts/4 00:00:00 grep --color=auto pulseaudio
rinzwind@schijfwereld:~$ kill -9 3960
rinzwind@schijfwereld:~$ ps -ef |grep pulseaudio
rinzwind 3980 1124 3 20:22 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
PID changed.
from 3960 to 3980
must be systemd :X

Aha!

I can't seem to find the pid for pulseaudio on mine, either

Everyone put on your systemd-blaming hat.

@jenboi it is in the ps -ef ;)

I keep mine next to my desk.
I need it often.

6:23 PM
@jenboi yours above is 17957

oh?

@NathanOsman hey it never did that before systemd

So I can use that to kill?

@jenboi see the ps you posted aboive

@Rinzwind You will find yourself saying that a lot in the future...

6:24 PM
yes it would be ->
sudo kill -9 17957
it will auto-reload though on another PID so you -did- restart it then

systemd is love
systemd is life
systemd is Linux
2

echo autospawn = no >> ~/.config/pulse/client.conf
otherwise it will autospawn see wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log

@Takkat stop intefering!

...And then there will be a new pid?

So long GNU/Linux. Hello systemd/Linux. Or better yet, Linux/systemd.

6:25 PM
@jenboi yes so it restarted
@Takkat I dont have that file :+)

<--- ran out of systemd jokes

Did not kill pulseaudio

Takkat is the pulseaudio guru here.

good try, though

tsk ->
systeme is 1 better than systemd

6:26 PM
Takkat is helping me with my largerrrrr sound issue, I just thought it'd be simple to restart
guess I was mistaken...
OHAI Takkat!

@jenboi yes it did. but it also restarted it. It is using another PID whgen you redo the ps -ef | grep pulseaudio

Command "echo autospawn = no >> ~/.config/pulse/client.conf" did not kill pusleaudio

@NathanOsman "How many systemd's does it take to change a lightbulb?"
"WHAT? SYSTEMD CHANGES LIGHTBULBS NOW? IS THERE NO END TO THIS INSANITY?"
6

@Rinzwind if you did not create it you use the one in /etc/pulse

aha

6:29 PM
@jenboi it should prevent it from autospawning after pulseaudio -k

kk @takkat, will try!
It worked! It killed!
But now when I restart, I get this error: E: [pulseaudio] backend-ofono.c: Failed to register as a handsfree audio agent with ofono: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.ofono was not provided by any .service files
I don't recall asking for ofono.....

bbl :)

One more...
user image
5

@jenboi there is a bad driver being loaded...

6:32 PM
@NathanOsman hmm, there is some troubleshooting going on..

@Takkat, do you know how I can find?
And... kill?

@jokerdino That's why I said "one more".
Otherwise, I have a whole bunch more :D

Oh dear. haha

@jenboi there are possibly more than one location where to look - say 1.000.000 or more. But you could try a pulseaudio -vvv run to see where it errors.
or unplug any handsfree audio devices if you have any.

My handsfree is already unplugged?

6:36 PM
or just delete your configs with mv ~/.config/pulse ~/.config/pulse.old - but then it will respawn again ;)

shall I unpair, as well?

@jenboi worth a try

Hey @jokerdino @NathanOsman @Takkat ! :)

@cl-netbox hey.

@cl-netbox o/

6:38 PM
.. Then try to run Pulseaudio?

@cl-netbox hi

..which is running, that's good, yes?

Does samba allow permission bits even if the underlying filesystem is NTFS or FAT?

@jenboi after unpair or after deleting configs... both will only work after re-running pulseaudio

So kill again?

6:39 PM
@Anwar Not exactly. You will specify an fmask and dmask when you mount it - which will set the permissions for all files and directories.

@jenboi i.e. change something, kill pulseaudio, restart it

Killed successfully, but restart gave the same error message

@NathanOsman aha. Thanks. I was trying to understand this answer askubuntu.com/a/443898/61218

gah

@Anwar Keep in mind that SMB != NTFS.
The underlying filesystem is irrelevant.

6:41 PM
@jenboi did you delete move the ~/.config/pulse as well?

Example - I have a NAS with an ext4 filesystem. But it wouldn't be any different than an NTFS fileystem over SMB.

@NathanOsman hmm... Got it. Does that answer make sense?

Would do, but the last error took away my command line...
just blank now...
No typey, no nothing...

@jenboi how can it get eaten by an error? That's bad behaviour.

I didn't realize Dirty Cow was so dangerous o_O
Been on Linux since 2.6.22 and just needs a web connection...

6:53 PM
@Zacharee1 what? o_O

@Anwar newly discovered exploit in the Linux kernel?

oh. read a headline about it. didn't read the details

XDA just released an article
Pretty much, we have almost guaranteed root for every single Android device

@Zacharee1 Which is amazing!!!
Towelroot v2!

@AndroidDev Yeah, but this affects everything, and it looks like any Android device that downloads and executes files is vulnerable

6:56 PM
This is the article link: xda-developers.com/…

Q: Changing canonical questions

Android DevSo I think we can all agree that this has become a canonical question: How to install Android Studio on Ubuntu? I would like to create my own, superior version. If I were to do so, would the community be okay with changing which question we use for dupes of installing Android Studio?

uh
chrome
why
are
you
crashing
on
google

@Takkat ...yes?
restart Terminal and try again?
Pulseaudio seems to be running now
reconnect handsfree audio and see if sound works??

@Zacharee1 is tempted to star all of those...

do it

Oh wow, @Takkat.... Sound is working!!

7:09 PM
@jenboi glad to hear :)

Unbelievable! After three weeks of research, hours and hours!!
Happy dance

But there are a lot of issues with Bluetooth and pulseaudio...

wait, what?
works for now?

7:11 PM
There are two other answers on my question I haven't tried yet, @Takkat, should i do them anyway?
@Nathan, I knew there was a bigger happy dance out there!

(how did you do that?)

@jenboi I have a collection of GIFs I save for moments like this.

"Where does he get those beautiful toys?"

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

7:15 PM
That's a quote from the joker, you see... my joker... from the nineties.
(no riff on the truly mad one, tho)

hi there

randomly appears
Greetings!

7:34 PM
@Serg ohai. regarding this (meta.askubuntu.com/questions/16297/mobile-site-ui-buggy) do all the SE sites' interfaces do it, or just mobile Ask Ubuntu through the browser?
