8:02 PM
Hello guys. Somebody could help me please?

@AndréMarinho What's your problem?

@AndroidDev I would like to try to config a chat room on empathy. I think that the chat room use IRC protocol. But I'm not sure.

@AndréMarinho Oh. I have no idea how to do that, sorry.

@AndroidDev Ok. Thank you anyway.

@AndréMarinho But some of the other users might.

8:07 PM
@AndroidDev Do you know anyone?

@AndréMarinho Hmmm... let me think
@AndréMarinho - Maybe Nathan Osman, Zacharee1 or KazWolfe could help.

@AndroidDev They're here now?

@AndréMarinho No, but if you ping them (by putting an @ infront of their username), they'll probably reply to you later.

OK, i think that's a last commit for today

@AndréMarinho - You could ask @Serg, he's here now.

8:13 PM
Ask me what ?

@AndroidDev Thanks. I'll try.

@Serg Hi. I'm trying to config a chat room on empathy.
Can you help me?

I've never used Empathy

@NathanOsman Is your server down again? Chat script does not work...

8:16 PM
So unfortunately that's not something i know about

@Serg But do you know how the chat rooms works? I just need to know if this chat room use IRC protocol and what is its server adress.

@AndréMarinho - Your best bet would probably be Nathan Osman

@AndréMarinho Sorry, I don't know. I don't use IRC. I'd gladly help if i knew

@Serg Ok. Thanks.
@AndroidDev Can I ping him right now?

@AndréMarinho Yes
Just start typing @Nath and it'll fill it in

8:20 PM
@NathanOsman I'm trying to config a chat room on empathy on some other aplication. Could you help me? That's the chat room URL: batepapo.uol.com.br/beta/Papo-s%C3%A9rio/Idiomas/English

That's going to be pretty much the final version ^

Do not star this message.

OK

how are you @Terrance?

@Serg Looks interesting. Btw, have you made any progress with my brightness indy?

8:28 PM
@Windows3.1 I am good. :) How are you?

@Serg what does that indicator do?

dong good :)

Good! =)

climbed another mountain 2 days ago -_-

@ByteCommander No , i recently have been busy with school. I will need to get back to it at some point
@IanC listing of partition usage and other info, opening partition in file manager and mounting of unmounted partitions

8:30 PM
I don't climb mountains very well, but I can roll down them really easy! =)

OK, shower
bye guys

@AndréMarinho No, unfortunately, this chat does not use any standardized protocol.
Neither IRC nor XMPP.
Any attempts to integrate with this chat involve reverse-engineering the protocol (a combination of HTTP and WebSockets) which I have been involved in.
The DJI Mavic was just announced.
$1000 whistles...

@NathanOsman BJ's has cheaper
@NathanOsman anyways :) that looks like crazy expensive model... what is special about it?

@Windows3.1 No, that's nearly the cheapest thing they sell.

:(
@NathanOsman as I said BJ's has a cheaper model

8:42 PM
Cheaper, maybe.
Which one?

fun fact. dog catcher loops are great for taking lemons out of a tree.

Good to know.

also... ayyyyyyyyy
@ByteCommander, congrats!

@NathanOsman back
sorry I was occupied with something else.
that's really cheap
16 mp cam isnt too bad
shipping included

It doesn't have a camera gimbal, for one thing.

8:54 PM

Lol.

gah.
i found a solution that does what i need, but i can't figure out how to make it do what i want.

@KazWolfe Well, I have to thank you for the question :)

9:10 PM
@KazWolfe I protected that boot to ram question, it attracted yet another new user answer suggesting to use a different OS live disk...

@ByteCommander <3
Nathan, python is being dumb!!!

No it is not.

>>> if any(word in catch_and_release_test_1.lower() for word in whitelist):
...     print word
...
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 2, in <module>
NameError: name 'word' is not defined

word's scope is limited to the generator expression.

so... how do i escape it.

9:12 PM
You would have to convert the generator expression into a proper for loop...

SONOFA

Or write a full generator function.

@KazWolfe time to port the python library to java!

moan disguised as question askubuntu.com/questions/830499/…

def wordlist_in_string(wordlist, string):
    found = False
    for word in wordlist:
        if word in string:
            print(word)
            found = True
    return found
Less elegant, but does the job. @KazWolfe

9:21 PM
def wordlist_in_string(wordlist, string):
    for word in wordlist:
        if word in string:
            print(word)
            return True
    return False
that saves a couple of lines
and gets out of the loop whenever possible

@edwinksl Assuming that @KazWolfe wants short circuit evaluation and exit the loop at the first match. If he wants to detect and print multiple matching words, this doesn't work.

indeed
my guess is though he might want all the matched words actually, so yours would do that

i got it.
so i'm writing it
and altering half my code blind in nano!
yay hack methods

Use nano -AESWmi -T4, those options make it easier for coding, I think. (only pasting indented code is bad)
Wow, 50 upvotes on the boot to ram answer...
It's my 5th highest rated answer already.

9:44 PM
@ByteCommander :D
you're just drowning in rep from that lol

@ByteCommander Well, it's a good answer. :)

And I have nothing to review any more...

you can review my crap code
gah. i need 15 more rep today.

user136984
I just found the clips of them arguing so amusing (they both have opposite ways of doing it, but they both actually manage to do it well, Clinton is just talking calmly and in the background you can constantly hear Trump making negative comments, it feels like some sort of comedy the way they do it) I have to watch it! :D

9:50 PM
Is panda still here ?

@ParanoidPanda

user136984
@Serg: Yes?

user136984
Though I am watching the above video (which has a very long and annoying beginning which doesn't have much to do with the actual debate, god, this guy can talk forever).

@ParanoidPanda nothing. I wanted to post something which might not be pleasant for you, but quite funny, so I just wanted to check. I'll post at different time

user136984
@Serg: What is it?

9:52 PM
@edwinksl what are you doing with that python there ? @ByteCommander
@ParanoidPanda a duck

brb testing something with wolfbot in this room.

@Serg nothing of importance

My apologies to everyone, especially Panda, who is about to get a lot of pings.

user136984
@KazWolfe: Am I? :D

@Serg for Kaz' bot. Check if a string contains any word from a list

9:53 PM
!!/start

user136984
@Serg: Oh! :D

Quick, ban Kaz before it's too late

user136984
No, that's fine, I got over that duck phobia. :)

Ok.

user136984
Now it's sausage dogs. :P

9:54 PM
!!/start

@KazWolfe Hi there! Welcome to WolfBot!

@KazWolfe Hey! I've got this link for you: "Weird Al" Yankovic - Virus Alert - YouTube

!!/setroom 45540

9:55 PM
@KazWolfe The bot will reload soon, and will use the new room upon restart. The bot will be moved to WolfBot's Testing Den.

user136984
Seriously though, I used to love sausage dogs but they just keep attacking me when I want to give them cuddles so I'm kind of a bit scared of them! :D

@KazWolfe Uh oh! I ran into a problem :(. See the console for more details.

stupid auto refresh

okay i'm done, sorry guys.

@WolfBot @KazWolfe this is way too similar to the Windows 10 BSOD. pls change

9:57 PM
@Zacharee1 that's the point.

wat

I ran out of delete votes... wants moar

@ByteCommander gimme $10 and I'll think about it

@Zacharee1 should i make a real picture or something?

@ByteCommander just ask someone who can delete stuff

9:58 PM
So @KazWolfe, what does that PR actually change?

@Zacharee1 Oh. Go to the Reputation tab of your profile.

i can vote but I'm on mobile so not the best candidate

It gets rid of all of those yellow things.

yellow things?
@Rinzwind Thanks, Captain Obvious
@JourneymanGeek I do it all the time on my MC servers :p
SFTP permissions are annoying
@KazWolfe do you think we should reorganize the repo?

i know slow and steady wins the race, but I'm sort of getting impatient

10:21 PM
@Zacharee1 WHY THE HELL DO YOU DO THAT

20 mins ago, by Zacharee1
SFTP permissions are annoying

I will Minecraft-sysadmin Newspaper you!

I literally cannot do anything over SFTP without 777

oh wait, you're probably just a tiny little network that doesn't have the scale to run VMs and images and whatnot.

but the only things that are 777ed are the server files
@KazWolfe tiny little AMD server*

10:22 PM
Add yourself to the group that the Minecraft server runs on, and use that to edit files.
And if you run the Minecraft server as root, there is something wrong with you.

I have no idea how the server runs
it's a wrapper
runs in an NPM instance thing

..........
@Zacharee1 how good are you at java

meh

meh as in "what is system.out.println" or meh as in "i've figured out threading, but i can't pass exceptions between them"
one more needed

meh as in I'm learning Recursion but have no idea what threading is (although I probably know what it is just not what it's called)
@KazWolfe done
and where'd you go? no more chat script

10:27 PM
who pinged me last?

@Zacharee1 huh?
the bot is back in his den.

@KazWolfe no, Nathan's script
I saw that question a few hours ago
but now I can't find it

5 rep away from 200 :D

@Zacharee1 that seems reposted. looks like OP deleted the older post?

@edwinksl I don't see it under deleted posts in mod tools though
so I'm reaaaaaaaalllly confused

10:31 PM
brand new account?
no clue

@edwinksl I tried searching it found nothing

I think it might be a new account, because I remember that question too, and I remember casting a VTC because I didn't understand the question at all.

ikr

Exactly

but I literally can't find it

10:35 PM
I looked too, and my vote is gone from my all actions today.

@Seth pls

what

6 mins ago, by Zacharee1
I'm so confused http://askubuntu.com/questions/830525/my-vps-30g-ssd-why-only-see-8-66gb
that question has been asked before
but it seems to have disappeared

I have no experience in LVM, but that seems to be OP's problem
Well, I have mounted and unmounted LVM from Live media before.

ITS NOT A CLOSED QUESTION EITHER
This bothers me
Glitch in the Matrix I guess?

10:45 PM
@Zacharee1 the original post was closed IIRC

yeah but it's gone
poof

11:13 PM
@KazWolfe is Geothermal in IRC the Geothermal at Mineplex?

The very same

nice

Current status: sync'ing Nearly 8 GB of stuff to the other side of the world.

Hi
Why does my system keep getting slower over time?

@NathanOsman why

11:19 PM

@SQuirel because cache and new programs and configs and settings and files and drive wear and psychological effects

@Zacharee1 Because. I haz need of it in France.
@Zacharee1 Mine was better :P

that's not the other side of the world

SF => France is the other side of the world.

@Zacharee1 How do I make it faster?

11:25 PM
i think my top question is gonna be closed as a dupe :(

Why?

well, it sorta kinda is, sorta.
although i think the time between them kinda nullifies that.

Darn. I just looked at it. :(
I think that Byte's answer though covers more especially with UEFI now, plus it has pictures. :)

kernel param is the same, though.
but i still think the 5 year gap is probably window enough to open it,
and provided vote counts, i'd close the other as a dupe of mine :P

:D
I almost put a question up last night about a HP Laptop I have at home and clean install of 14.04.5. As it turns out, you need to remove the 4.4 kernel that comes with it after booting to 3.13, then do the HWE upgrade, then it works fine.
It was not getting on the network at all after a clean install.

user136984
11:34 PM
God... That debate just goes on and on... Trump talks a lot... :D

user136984
Goodnight! :)

@ParanoidPanda Night!

user136984
I'll probably have to watch the rest tomorrow.

11:44 PM
It is Here!

APIC need to be disabled? Or CPU failure? askubuntu.com/q/830541/231142

Definitely run memtest.

So, you're thinking hardware failure?

A Machine Check Exception (MCE) is a type of computer hardware error that occurs when a computer's central processing unit detects a hardware problem. Modern versions of Microsoft Windows handle machine check exceptions through the Windows Hardware Error Architecture. When WHEA detects a machine check exception, it displays the error in a Blue Screen of Death, with the following parameters (which vary, but the first parameter is always 0x0 for a machine check exception): *** STOP: 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000) On Linux, a process...
> "Memory errors: parity checking detects when a memory error has occurred."
So it could be memory, among other things.
Apparently, overclocking can cause this problem as well.

That is what I was thinking. Confusion because I was actually thinking that ACPI needed to be disabled, which was not this case.
The APIC in the code messed with my mind. :/

11:51 PM
Yeah, APIC != ACPI.

True that!

APIC = Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller

The servers I work with at work just give kernel panics usually and then hang....

Its dead jim

Uhm, why is Chrome claiming I am downloading at twice the actual speed?

11:54 PM
OK, I undeleted my answer

This is so weird.
Chrome downloaded a file faster than is theoretically possible on my connection.
And behold. Here is the file.
Time to see if it is corrupt.

If it is not corrupt, BONUS!!

Waaaaaaait a second.
I see what happened here.
It was a .tar file and I bet Apache thought - "hey, I can gzip this!"
And although the file size was large, the compressed actual-over-the-wire size was much less.

So, what's the verdict of the file?

It works.
I bet that's exactly what happened.

11:58 PM
Nice!! Good Guy Apache!
I mean, Good Server Apache!
