Dang. Titan X is quite a beast card.
Valley benchmark it was over 60 FPS on a 4k display. Impressive.
And no, sadly, I do not own one :'(

There is a very interesting lecture here.

I am offically getting the Titan X

aw crap. bioshock infinite has no third person view...

you got it on 360 too @mateo

just pc(personal computer only linux)

ah

9:22 PM
hopefully they didn't do the bounce step thing too, I get dizzy and sick.

@terdon still around?

But those system requirements!
> "24 GB system memory (48 GB or higher recommended)"
I barely have 8 GB of RAM.
Ouch.

9:38 PM
well, maybe I'll be able to play it on steam machine far away from the screen...

@RPiAwesomeness around?
@RPiAwesomeness check it out when you get a chance

hey guys! I just installed ubuntu 14.10 and only now I noticed that I'd like to have gnome instead. Do I have to reinstall or is there anything else I can do?

Yup. Just run this:
sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop

great! :) thank you so much!

Wait - that doesn't seem right.

9:45 PM
hum?

I think I have the wrong package name.
One sec...
Okay, here it is:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop
Sorry about that :P

ahahah it's ok!
thank you very much!
:)
hum, it is asking me to choose a display manager. should I choose gdm or lightdm? I dont remember what I had the last time I had gnome, it was a while ago

@Sosi Gnome uses GDM, Ubuntu uses LightDM.
You can always change back afterwards.

Okies! Many thanks buddy

hey guys please take a look at my quesiton: askubuntu.com/questions/597710/…

9:57 PM
@TheX The link?
@TheX Pretty cool! It needs to be updated though, my tower doesn't show up! ;)

i have this question unanswered from yesterday
1
Q: Sound quality is good on Ubuntu but great on Windows

edward torvaldsI have DOLBY speakers on Lenovo z50. I dont have any real problem with my laptop speaker, there is difference in sound quality on same hardware but differnt OS - windows 8 and Ubuntu. sound quality is good on Ubuntu but it is great with all minute details on Windows 8, is there anything we can do...

10:14 PM
@RPiAwesomeness yeah I built it the night before you built your tower

@TheX lol :D
I'm installing Gnome desktop. Lets hope it doesn't break stuff.

lol I was actually just thinking about doing the same...

I tried it a while back, but gave up 'cause it was laggy on my craptop. And that was like GNOME 3.2/3.3 days. It looks like it has got quite a bit better recently.

Yeah I installed it about a month back at work, it is pretty snappy anymore...

@TheX Oh, BTW. I bred the horses, so if you see any baby horses or horses without saddles in the pen - those are mine . I just need to find a saddle :P

10:18 PM
Okay...I'll be sure to kill them...
Err...I mean...

I'm going to give it a run (Gnome, that is) just to see how NitroShare works on it.

@TheX ;)
Don't you just hate it when a band makes such good music you can't stop listening to it?
jk

@RPiAwesomeness It wouldn't bother me half as much as everyone else nearby who had to listen :P

@NathanOsman lol
Earbuds FTW

Headphones FTW. Earbuds are awful.

10:27 PM
Hum, I know this is embarrassing, but here it goes anyway... I had Ubuntu, I now installed Gnome, and after all this isn't what I was looking for. I remember using a version of ubuntu that, for instance, would show you all windows when you put your mouse on the corner of the screen, but I dont remember its name

You must be referring to Compiz.
Though Gnome does something similar if you configure it that way.

oh then it may really be gnome. let me fool around in the properties of gnome then

I'm going to be doing something in Gnome in a few minutes. I'll take a look for you if you haven't found it by then.

ok, thanks!

Hi There! o/
German exam was awful! Topic: Write an essay about "The power of sports". I hate sport!
But I did it and I have no idea whether it was good or bad... :P

10:35 PM
hello!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Maths final exam tomorrow. This is something that pleases me more...
Hi @Sosi.
It is 23:36 around here, so I should go to bed now right off...

@Sosi If I have more than one window open in Gnome and press the super key (often the Windows logo), I see a preview of all open windows.

I was just quickly jumping in to make sure I will get the Fanatic badge...

@NathanOsman over here it opens the Search panel

So see you all tomorrow hopefully! Bye then. Good night.

10:37 PM
bye bye @ByteCommander

(leaving with the feeling that nobody cared about what I wrote... But doesn't matter.)

@ByteCommander sorry, trying to solve this problem here :\ it's 23:40 and still no dinner yet
@NathanOsman idk what i did wrong then

I wish I could help, but I very rarely use Gnome.
...so I don't really know how to use it that well :P

np np

10:41 PM
Ear buds are convenient but uncomfortable...

They have poor sound quality, they are painful to wear, and they don't block ambient noise.
What do they even have going for them?

@edwardtorvalds dolby probably has done after-market software equalization, spacial tweaks, and other such stuff

Why isn't this installed by default???

I would look for installing a eq mixer and tweak the levels @edwardtorvalds

Looks like I need to make a nice icon for the Adwaita theme.

11:08 PM
@NathanOsman I dont see my desktop wallpaper, that windows overview doesnt work and I dont know whats wrong. Maybe it was the update from Ubuntu to Gnome?

What do you see when you press the super key?

it expands the Dash
and awaits input to search

@NathanOsman that looks good!

@Sosi Can you post a screenshot?

sure thing! one second

11:10 PM
@Lucio Thanks!

@NathanOsman you read my mind with that home window :)

meh, I'll just do a clean installation again tomorrow morning

@Sosi You're still in Unity.

D:
but but but
i ran that command

11:11 PM
You need to select "Gnome" when you log in.

D:

Sorry for the confusion.

.........
I should really go home and rest
xDDD

When you switch, you'll need to log out and then select the desktop environment to start.

no no no! It's my fault!
eheheh ok ok
brb

11:14 PM
I'm gonna hang here until honeybadger comes in..

@NathanOsman gnome hates those..

Gnome seems to eschew anything usable :P

Indeed they do ;)
It is surprising so many people like it o_O

glad I'm not the only one :)

I'll be trying KDE shortly... we'll see how they're doing.

11:17 PM
I'd always like KDE

I thought you'd switched to KDE a long time ago @NathanOsman

nice features and good performance

I used to use KDE but my new (now not so new) computer didn't like it :/

@Seth I've been using Unity for the last couple of years. I was using KDE before that though.

@NathanOsman just to say it worked :) now going home!

11:19 PM
as long as unity doesn't bit you, you just stay with it

thanks for the help!

No problem!

cheers

I tried #GnomeShell for half an hour. I want that half hour of my life back.

There, my sarcastic Twitter account says it better.

LOL.

11:22 PM
@NathanOsman Amen!

11:37 PM
@RPiAwesomeness is the minecraft world round?

realtimechat.com wow just wow
> The top public sale this past week was TailLights.com which sold for $39,200.
And all for this -> taillights.com

@Lucio Racking up some flags there.. ;)

oh sorry

@edwardtorvalds I wonder if it would be apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/precise/pavucontrol a commenter stated:

np, it is just too much cash for a domain! crazy

11:52 PM
I know right! Amazing what some people will pay.

> ... , this tool is required to properly enable Dolby Digital (AC3) and DTS passthrough. Just go to Output Devices tab, check both checkboxes, and enjoy amazing 5.1 digital sound!

@Seth are you a mod?

@TheX yes, I am.

Oh if I would have known that I would have just brought it to your attention, my bad

But 10k chat users can also see spam/offensive flags so it isn't a secret that the message was flagged.
@TheX Oh no problem. I wasn't paying attention 3 minutes ago anyway.

11:54 PM
hey guys please help me out with this unanswered question: askubuntu.com/questions/593158/…
