@za
gah. Tab completion does not work.
@Zanna Could I ask you for a bit of advice? I've tried to engage waltinator - which is a long time user - on why he suggests people should set a MTU of 1492. He's been on that topic for years. However, he doesn't even acknowledge my comments - and his advise (and answers) could potentially make the experience quite bad for users.

I expect that waltinator sees my omments as attacks, and attempts to ignore them - which is not productive for anyone...
Do you have good suggestions on a good way to proceed?

@vidarlo why would one set an MTU of 1492?
can I have a look at some of these comments?

@Zanna Good question. There's no reason. It could create problems. This user however has that belief, and has had if for a while and refuse to engage in discussion on the topic
Normally I'd say the course is to discuss a technical disagreement, but feedback is simply ignored in this case. And yet I'm not willing to let it rest as it's so wrong, can lead to problems, it's a high rep user that will appear as trusted to new people, and the advice can actually lead to worse results.
@Zanna And yeah, sure. Just look at comments from me the previous few days.

@vidarlo hmm yeah it's a bad situation
if one person is not willing to change their mind, we could at least build knowledge in the community to help prevent wrong claims from being accepted?
community isn't as knit as it once was :/

@Zanna Sure, but preferably without alienating a user that's been around for a long time.
@Zanna No, it has fallen to pieces. Just look at the activity in here...

agreed and agreed
I was thinking maybe you could write a Q&A about it
then you and others can refer to it if needed
so you don't have to keep explaining stuff over and over again in comments

That's one way, but the Q&A would be about networking and not ubuntu per se. Would that be ok?

it would be okay with me. it relates to issues people regularly face using ubuntu, right?

ok, good way of handling it. With a bit of luck, maybe it's even read...
The joys of being married to a dentist: the eyes looking at you when you drink coke for breakfast.

hahahahaha
my 12 month old is having a bad day so far and I suspect he has teeth coming, but I can't spot them as he refuses to show me - if your spouse has any tips, do share XD

oh, congratulations :)

anyway he has gone to sleep - perhaps he'll feel better after his nap. Meanwhile I'd better do the housework! :)

My wife's pregnant, 5 months now. And sadly, I think pediatric dentistry is not her main topic

@vidarlo thank you :)
@vidarlo congratulations to you both!

thanks :)

@Zanna askubuntu.com/questions/1469990/… - mostly uncertain if a better question could be made for the answer... :)

10:46 AM
@vidarlo thanks a lot for writing it!

@vidarlo upvoted, and I've added a comment and downvoted waltinators answer in the other thread, since it's plainly pointless.

11:04 AM
@Zanna Actually learnt a few things writing it :D

Any one here play chess?

@vidarlo excellent!

12:29 PM
@Error404 Over a beer at times yes, but not in the sense that I know how to play :)

12:46 PM
@Error404 It's been a while - but yeah I know how to play. I'm by no means an expert though..

Q: Stack Exchange is failing its community

Journeyman GeekI guess this is very much an intervention. There's a few policies in the pipeline - here's a leak of one, and there's another one that's not been officially announced that a good many moderators are opposed to. I'll update when (or if) it goes through, but it's not great. Tied in with the new 'pu...

Please downvote nonsense like this: askubuntu.com/a/1466293/1066942
I've checked Vidarlo's excellent post with a certified Cisco Network Engineer, and everything stated is correct. And everything waltinator posts about reducing MTU size for WiFi is wrong.
I'm downvoting every single post from Waltinator about setting MTU size to 1492 since it's purely undocumented nonsense..
Ask any network engineer, and check your own WiFi - the MTU will ALWAYS be set to 1500 on any home network by default - no exceptions.
