@xtrchessreal do you mean instead of upgrading to the next release as available regardless of whether it is LTS?

To clarify I was asking from LTS to LTS where LTS is an even integer e.g. 16, 18, 20...
But I found some info that helped me understand what I wanted, TY @Zanna

BTW I was having issues today with usb stick drive not allowing a paste file command, knowing chmod and chown better may have helped me. Hint: interest in your offer of class of which permissions would be nice to understand. Messed with formatting, Gparted etc no change. Booted into 20.04 LTS pasted file to same stick drive without any issues. Not a hardware issue as some may suggest.
Recent similar issues not able to mount android phone on 16.04 LTS but booted to 20.04 LTS and it immediately sees it. I may write as a question but have not had time to research other similar questions yet. Bottom line considering upgrading 16 to 18 to 20

@xtrchessreal thanks for your comment on my post!
@xtrchessreal great

Genuine Interest for me

@xtrchessreal that's good to know; phones not being recognized etc is a common frustration I think

I'll look around for some questions that may have been asked first and then decide if and how to word it carefully.
