What is the actual link between the init process with PID 1 and system V or systemd?
Is it the initprocess that forks systemV as a child or smth like that?

Q: Answer edit as long and detailed comment - how to proceed?

Simon SudlerI wrote an answer to someones question with the best intention to help. A few days later, I received an edit request for review: Ignoring the fact, that this edit would completely destroy my answer, what would be the best way to preserve that feedback in askubuntu? Tell the guy to move it to...

@traducerad technically they are on the same level. the initial start of systemd also is PID 1. systemd is a replacement of init. "Is it the initprocess that forks systemV as a child or smth like that?" init is serial (and one of the actions is to start init-v/upstart/systemd).

Q: restrict access to the webcam to certain user/software on Ubuntu 16

rokI would like to restrict the access to the webcam only to certain programs/users. I use Ubuntu 16.04. If I am right my webcam is linked with /dev/video0 (just as an example), which is owned by root and group video. However group "video" doesn't show up invoking command groups and doesn't seem use...

Q: slow autocomplete for cd in directory with many files

KvotheIn directory with many files but only a few directories autocomplete is very slow for directories. If I type cd something tab it will take ages to autocomplete. Presumably this is because it is searching through all the files. However, it is already set up (by default) to only autocomplete to dir...

@Rinzwind Hehe, yeah, kind of have been thinking for quite a while about making a completely new launcher app from scratch. Just a plank like thing, but then have the flexibility of tailoring functionality, adding previews, fixing strut issues, placement etc. If we only had 48 hours a day :)

9:29 AM
well you got monday off >:)
but would it not be just a restart of the launcher the same way already is done when someone changes it from settings ?

@Rinzwind I'll put many easter eggs into the code :)

always a good idea :)
my fav. from windows was sheep.exe. I had that one installed on a 25 computers to launch on the friday if xmas was a saturday. So it took a few years to kick in D:

Hi, good day
@Rinzwind Lol, thats fun :)
@JacobVlijm I have tested your program win_tomonitor, it working fine at login, with few seconds pause. Thanks again! Sadly I`m not system programmer, don't known vala, and can't improve it.

Is it off topic if I ask for help with this deamon, but didn't write anything myself, on stack overflow?

@LeonidMew If you are willing to edit the code and can show the part of the code that you want help with, it should be OK. But not if your question is "this doesn't work for me" probably.

@LeonidMew Don't worry, still on my list. The on-window action is done, still trying to find out backlight per-monitor.

Q: system craches andgoes to a strange screen

David HollandSometimes when I access a program IE Firefox or libre office the computer freezes and I get get a strange display The only solution is to reboot the whole computer see attached photo

@LeonidMew Also still in the pocket because I'd like to see if it would make a nice UB applet :)

10:59 AM
@JacobVlijm It would be good to do nothing with windows appear already on targeted monitor, not unmaximize it and not move to x100,y100. Also blacklist is needed, to allow usage of second monitor.

Ah, @LeonidMew Sorry, sorry, I am mixing up two snippets, but the same actually counts for that one. Your first issue is obvious, not sure what you mean by the second?

@JacobVlijm I'm running kodi on second monitor, it have setting which monitor to use. But it opens on monitor where mouse is, when win_tomonitor running
so a blacklist means not to move window in that list

@LeonidMew Ah, clear. Got some time to kill this afternoon. Too short to really concentrat, probably long enough to see if I can add these in. I can't test it though, only have a laptop, with only one screen :)

@JacobVlijm Thanks! :) I'll be your tester

@LeonidMew Yay!

@JacobVlijm You get a new bounty :)
I have read a code, amazing how things can be done, simple and effective

Hello guys, i do not want to make a post about this, because its non-critical problem, but it damages my sense of beauty. After trying to install zathura, zathura's dependencies and reboot i've got 5g OS (name of the partition) mounted with some dell files and configs and flagged as msfdata. What should i do with it? Format?
maybe i can somehow watch, which program or command did this to my filesystem?

@LeonidMew aww man, thanks a lot! I don't want to make you poor!

@nonForgivingJesus What is zathura? May be this files important, don't format it yet. If it occupy not a lot of space, you can comment mount line in /etc/fstab
@JacobVlijm I'm have enough reputation and privileges on site :)

@LeonidMew its minimalistic pdf viewer that navigates similar to vim
i tried to make from my ubuntu 16.04 LTS something like
https://larbs.xyz/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKviflL9XeI

@nonForgivingJesus Then this files not related to it. Do you have dual boot?

@LeonidMew no
maybe i messed up with libraries or something along installation of dependencies

@nonForgivingJesus Linux also can create this type of partition. I have find what its not advisable to format or delete this partitions, unless you known what type of data are in.

ok, i will not touch it because have a lot of disk space beside this partition :)
thank you
I remember (and i checked terminal logs), that then i executed
sudo apt install gtk+-3.0
it asked me about 4.7 gb of disk space for gtk dependencies
by the way i do not have any lines about /dev/sda2 (this partition) in my /etc/fstab

You can ask a question, providing ls -la output for that partition, ask is it needed for Ubuntu or hardware.
with hardware I mean bios or uefi
Its possible to set hidden flag with gparted for that partition

Q: How to configure TOTP on Ubuntu?

User123I am setting up my Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS desktop. I have used the PAM google-authenticator module before.
