why isn't the dollar sign shown in this bash prompt? PS1="\033[7m"
PS1+="\033[96m\u-\033";
PS1+="\033[92m\W \033";
PS1+="\e[0m\e\033";
PS1+="\$ ";
export PS1;
(I tried it without backslash behind the dollar sign too but again it won't show)
There's also another problem with this prompt. The space after dollar sign could be removed with backspace!

Q: How to edit desktop script to add Spotify controls ( like save/remove to library, show song or artist detail ) to context menu in Unity Launcher

hsurfThe question is inspired by this post, https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/316367/319401. I was able to add control of save/pause next/previous to the context menu like the answer said, but couldn't find out how to do it with other controls like save/remove to library, show song or artist detail .e...

Q: How to properly lunch tmux on terminal startup?

bpinayaI've used this snippet to launch tmux when the terminal is launched: # TMUX startup if command -v tmux>/dev/null; then [[ ! $TERM =~ screen ]] && [ -z $TMUX ] && exec tmux fi But with this I can't exit tmux without the terminal screen being closed too. @CharlesGreen I just wanted to thank you for that flag you raised on a user's comment a while back. You mentioned a general issue with the user and we will be keeping an eye on them. However, because the flag was raised on a comment, I had no choice but to dismiss it (I cannot mark it as helpful without deleting the comment). So I wanted to let you know that your flag was appreciated despite being dismissed.

Always a bummer if someone seems to raise a big finger to everyone after setting a bounty. No communication, just complaining comments, nothing about the answers, no choice. askubuntu.com/questions/1116691/…
...While at least a few answers seem to do pretty much exactly what he asked for.

12:09 PM
@JacobVlijm The user hasn't logged in since Feb 15. Give them some time. Most people don't spend as much time on AU as we do. And there was only one comment that was complaining about AU, not the answers.

12:22 PM
Yeah @terdon It might be a totally different mindset. I cannot imagine that if someone sets a bounty for a solution of which he seems desperate to get, he subsequently doesn't keep an eye on what is happening with the post, even let the bounty expire without even looking. It could be a different temperament on the subject though.

12:49 PM
@JacobVlijm People have lives, you know. It's been less than a week.
We're the weirdoes who spend so much time here.

@terdon enjoyable misspelling in title I think

@Zanna Aaah!

:)

@Zanna of the question? Oh dear I changed that what is it?

I thought he found the question interesting (which it was) and was wondering why he hadn't upvoted it he thought it was good. Makes sense now.

@JacobVlijm lunch instead of launch - seen quite often!

Haha

speaking of lunch, later all :)

sorry for the confusion, should have written “omnomnom” instead :)

@terdon Thanks for the follow-up on that. As I mentioned, the user was not outright rude, and I was not really comfortable about flagging them, but they did feel close to the edge on occasion.

2:11 PM
@CharlesGreen And you did the right thing. When in doubt, flagging is usually the safest option.
I just didn't want you to think we had dismissed it out of hand. The flag handling UI has some issues...

Q: Passing line from text file into script in a for loop

bbeldenBelow I have a script that is working and is used to find file sizes in our Object Storage Architecture running on Ubuntu. I just had someone install the latest (stable) Ubuntu via Virtualbox. Everything turned out fine except for network connection. They were getting an address from Virtualbox but it wasn't able to do anything (e.g. ping, traceroute). The host PC was a laptop but I didn't think that would affect anything. I had them change the Virtualbox interface to Bridged as apposed to the NAT default.
Why would this happen? I assumed everything Vbox did was virtual, so the "infrastructure" built within Vbox would simply route to the virtual adapter installed on the host (not the guest interface).

5:38 PM
yes virtual but by default sandboxed.

GRRRRRRR askubuntu.com/q/1119590/231142 Out of close votes on that one. Should be VTCd as unclear.

what is a mount password and how do I find it? I intentionally set my encryption password for my home directory to something I could remember, tut now it wants a "mount password"? What's the point of even having a user password if you can't use it to unlock your encrypted files?

6:23 PM
So, I guess that OP from askubuntu.com/q/1119590/231142 is trying to clarify that all they need is PEM format for their key then.

This Q needs treatment too (OP admits using CentOS in comments, which probably has different file paths) askubuntu.com/questions/1119559/sh-scripts-not-working-in-cron/…

@ByteCommander only mods can see that comment chain though :P

Eh?
Oh. That comment wasn't deleted yet when I linked it, of course.

I guess I was lucky enough to see the comment before it was deleted. :)

How can I copy something from INSIDE nano and paste it OUTSIDE nano? I can copy inside nano using alt+6, but it doesn't go to my clipboard and when I go out of nano, it no more exists for pasting.

@Moytaba Highlight with your mouse, then Center-Click into whatever you want it paste in.

@Terrance Thanks. Do you know what is center click on touchpad?

@Moytaba Sometimes, left and right at the same time, or look in your keyboard settings and set something to the equivalent of center click. You might want to actually ask this in a question on AU and state everything you have done and as much details, like system model, Ubuntu version and flavor, etc.

@Terrance Alright, thanks.

^^Both are very funny! And true!! :D

7:33 PM
@Terrance i only wait for the moment where bog data is outdated and huge data is a thing
:D

LOL!

for me it is simply data

I work around Big Data, but my particular role does not allow me to see it per se. I have seen some of the reports showing how much data was collected, etc and those were impressive numbers.

8:01 PM
yes but it is still data, the amount of it os big ok but IMHO this is not a reason to give it any fancy names, the only thing what changes is how much time you need to do a full database operation for fetching results or compute results, and the algorithms for doing so need to be optimized alot
this is why i say it is just data

maybe a better term would be “much data”, “data. a whole lot of it.” or just “daaaaata” :)

el mucho data :)

or why not binary? “01100100011000010111010001100001” sure looks like it’s a lot to someone not familiar with how it works.

8:54 PM
Man, I leave to get lunch and I miss some good terms here! :D
Yes, data is data regardless. It is funny though that in data centers that they do designate skus to servers that can be used for BD as the data collecting servers with more drives. Standard servers don't need that type of storage.
Now, what the BD is used for all depends.....
