@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Do you still have the Chinese girlfriend and the keenness for Chinese language? This new bounty would be right up your alley then: askubuntu.com/questions/1053182/…
@Fabby PING
@dessert Ha if you searched on "$" you'd get a million results :p

Quanto è grande? wtf Italian

12:36 AM
@TheWanderer All roads lead to Rome...

@TheWanderer Dame tu cosita ?

that's not Italian

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yeah, I saw that bounty, but they use Sun Pinyin, if I'm not mistaken. In either case, I'm lacking motivation here, aside from bounty. And no girlfriend since last summer, back to being single
@TheWanderer But it's catchy ;) You forgot that I like random nonsense. Probably we haven't catched up im a while so . . . . HAI !
On a serious note, apparently Italian is close to Spanish. I had a classmate once who traveled through Italy, but speaks no Italian, only Spanish, and apparently he got around

12:53 AM
listening to it, yes
trying to speak it, god no
Italian grammar is kind of like Portuguese with a little French vocabulary

Well, at least you're not trying Russian. That one has whole lot of grammar, and written spelling that differs from pronounciation. Basically, a total mess.
Try doing the Italian hand gestures, maybe that helps :)

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Yes I've lost the "youthful" enthusiasm for answering question I used to have. Now I will spend a week answering a question with a program and get 1 vote but be happy rather than a 15 minute answer that will get 5 votes on an easy question. Sorry about your girlfriend. Welcome to my Singles Club!!!
^^^ Trying to say I enjoy answering interesting questions now rather than ALL the questions I could like I used to...

@WinEunuuchs2Unix My enthusiasm in the past was more of an obsession, race for reputation points, and tendency to compete. Also, I am using different OS now, so can't exactly build App Indicators or Nautilus scripts anymore (I mean, I can, I just don't want to install Nautilus ). I still enjoy answering, still do text processing and shell stuff. But I guess I became more selective and don't put as much pressure on myself.

1:09 AM
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Using a different OS? You finally discovered Windows 3.11 for Workgroups?

Hehe, nope. Still a Linux distro. Deepin, to be exact.

I've heard the name a couple of times but know nothing about it. What are the key selling points?

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Good-looking desktop environment, kinda like Mac OS X. It has its issues and I can critique some points, but overall I am happy with it.

But no Gnome or gsettings and stuff?

They have gsettings. The environment is based on GNOME I think. Still has dbus and all that. What I also like is they have some of my favorite Chinese desktop apps working, and most of those have only Windows version. So Deepin has those packaged well
A lot of their desktop apps are custom. Custom terminal emulator, which has splits, tabs, remote connection. Eh, fairly nice.
They do use systemd, so nothing special in that department.

1:16 AM
I read up on I3WM last night and wasn't impressed. I think gnome-terminal is a little terminal challenged so I'll read up on Deepin this weekend :)
systemd is great because you don't need to use it often and the whole Linux world seems to use it so it's like saying your computer has a power button you need to press to turn it on.
Does stack exchange have a Deepin site yet?

No, not yet. And I don't think it needs it. But perhaps it'd be welcome by more western users
There's a subreddit for it, though

Pfft there is probably a subreddit for fake moon landing

@WinEunuuchs2Unix reddit.com/r/moonhoax
There actually is

LMAOOOOO

Aaaand on that jolly note, I am getting more ice cream and going back to watching a Chinese TV series

1:24 AM
Have a great night and enjoy that Ice Cream, even if it's not liquorice!

It's mint actually
Although that's off-topic here

how's my site look?

1:43 AM
what's tk stands for ?

it's a free domain
Tokelau

Hmmm, I like it. Simple, but with taste

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy I can't decide if I should go for the stock images I have for Intro and Downloads or if I should just not have images

1:59 AM
@TheWanderer Well an image for background is fine. Are the images necessary ? You're "marketing" yourself as an android dev, so images aren't that important. Screenshots of your apps perhaps would be more relevant, if you still want images there
I wonder if I should make myself a "web resume" as well. But github and linkedin should be enough.

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Is mint really off-topic? Why is there a Mint tag and 80% of mint questions are answered and not closed? Muru is the only one I know who systematically VTC's mint. I vote along like a sheeple until last week.
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy I used Ask Ubuntu as a "Web Resume" four weeks ago with the company president. Haven't heard anything back yet but my friend at work says I need to be "more aggressive".

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Let's just put it this way: some of the "mint" questions, aren't about mint at all, and perfectly applicable. Such as text processing questions, or certain desktop features, or even desktop environments. But key assumption is that "Mint isn't Ubuntu", which isn't complete picture. Personally, I prefer to take out mint tag out of questions related to scripting or shell processing, unless they touch on things like ppa or kernel
But of course, there's going to be a wide array of people arguing all those things are not applicable to Ubuntu, even though they perfectly are. And in either case, ideally scripting should be done portably, in accordance with /bin/sh syntax and POSIX specs.

Well no matter how you look at it, I don't know Mint and 80% of the mint tags aren't closed so I'm not VTC'ing them anymore until they delete the mint tag and close the 80% still open.

Yeah, mint tag is kinda redundant. But the purpose I guess is to have questions where users ask to somehow connect Ubuntu and Mint, or port apps between them, or stuff like that

All I can say it's a gray area and I don't like that in a black and white / 1's & 0's / True & False computer world.
I get enough of that from TV :p

2:09 AM
:) There's plenty of those gray areas, especially in Unix/Linux world

Yeah like correlating a Ubuntu kernel version number to real world Linux Kernel version number :p

Real world is that some companies use very old kernels :)

We use Red Hat Linux at work. Something like 2.68.512
So tons of updates on a very old version
Anyway time to jet... Have a good night in Illinois :)

Not even close to that place :)
But thanks

Update: It turns out the cannon has a motorized base, and can make holes just fine using the barrel itself as a battering ram. But due to design constraints it won't work without a projectile loaded in, so we still need those drills.

Hi all!
@Rinzwind I removed the spammy part.

cool
stil don't want that iphone :=)

@Rinzwind: A multi-lens system like that can be quite useful: with some post-processing multiple small lenses can produce better images than the largest single-lens system that can fit into the same (small) case.

Q: fstab mounting time

MaximI'm working on a script that is supposed to execute on startup, but the problem is that the script requires some files that are on a shared drive that is automatically mounted via fstab and at the time of it's execution the drive isn't mounted yet. is it your password?

> Your browser started working as a Rdp (Remote desktop) having a key logger which provided me accessibility to your display and cam. Immediately after that, my software program collected all of your contacts from social networks, as well as mailbox.
@TheWanderer Yaah, old one. Used on sites I probably forgot I still had an account one
Changing my passwords though

so it probably got out in some DB link from some old forum account
Look at the sender name xD

@TheWanderer Yeah probably
Where can I report this kind of stuff?

what do you mean?
you don't report spam
you filter it

5:52 PM
@TheWanderer Spam Wars: Return of the delivery xD

Yeah, but I want more shyt directed to this d*ck
Ugh, e-mail headers couldn't tell me shyte about this guy

Anyone have any good kubernetes tutorials for zero to working on one or two AWS instances? I see the documentation has lots of intros, but it's paralysis by number of choices and no one clear "Get two AWS instances. This one is your load balancer. This other one holds all your services. Add more instances whenever you want/need"

@RobotHumans does DigitalOcean have anything?
@blade19899 reply and see if you get a response
if you do, I'm sure @ThomasWard would be happy to set up a spam system for you :p

@TheWanderer Yeah, but not with my email account. Creating n protonmail

@TheWanderer Didn't check them. I checked the documentation. I found one I think I like here kubernetes.io/docs/tutorials/stateless-application/…

6:05 PM
@blade19899 oh oh oh, do the same thing to them from a new email

but it doesn't cover expanding to new nodes

@TheWanderer Yeah! Awesome idea!

@RobotHumans well I have no idea about any of it, or even how to search it. I just know DO has good guides

Sent to him via my protonmail xD
> Report Spam

Forward unwanted or deceptive messages to:

the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov. Be sure to include the complete spam email.
your email provider. At the top of the message, state that you're complaining about being spammed. Some email services have buttons that allow you to mark messages as junk mail or report them spam.
the sender's email provider, if you can tell who it is. Most web mail providers and ISPs want to cut off spammers who abuse their system. Again, make sure to include the entire spam email and say that you're complaining about spam.

6:34 PM
@TheWanderer they do. I've linked them on answers before

@blade19899 does the FTC actually do anything though?

@TheWanderer Probably not xD
Lol, the spam users made the news:
That spam email that was sent to me, manager to earn 8 bitcoin

6:52 PM
If you spam the spam email with forwarded spam, are you then the spammer ?

7:04 PM
boi

boi is gender-neutral

Sources ?

it's slang
there is no source
it's like guy or dude

Slang doesn't imply gender neutrality. Non sequitor

7:08 PM
slang was to justify there being no source

I understand “boi” as short for “Oh, boy.”, which is indeed gender-neutral in my inderstanding. There are several expressions in German with that or a similar meaning which happen to involve boys or men as well: “Junge, Junge!” and “Mannomann!”

that's not it

exactly
I had no idea how to explain it lol

7:21 PM
Well, let's look at it this way: if it's used as exclamation, sure, it's maybe gender neutral, but here it's used as a call or grabbing my attention, and at least so far i am male; i don't think this would be used in response to someone female in the chat ( assuming you know they're female )

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy if people are using boi to grab your attention... they're either using it wrong or insulting you

@SergiyKolodyazhnyy I said it because you were up to your usual antics lol

@TheWanderer and that’s not replaceable with “Oh, boy!”? Why?

@Seth Well, or they're projecting the inner Cratos :) (if you know what I'm referencing )

7:22 PM
'Oh boy' in English means like "something's about to happen" or "well that wasn't good"
or it could mean you're excited about something good happening in the future, although that's antiquated
it's only used ironically now
like "oh boy, here he goes again with that stupid grammar discussion"

:D
you brought that upon yourself

I'm just gonna say this and probably withdraw out of this discussion: I don't care about gender. If you act like a d**k, that has nothing to do with words or gender

@TheWanderer lol

Now, where was I ? Oh, boredom, drowsiness, and heat outdoors . . .

you were waxing philosophical

7:25 PM
Minecraft 1.13 came out

Oh, right. . . .something something philosophy . . . something something existential angst . . .
I haven't played Minecraft for so long . . .

@Seth yos

I mist checking AU :=)

@Seth Accurate, actually

7:36 PM
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy you should try it again, it’s getting constantly better and bigger

7:50 PM
Well, I guess I just might do that :3

8:07 PM
I wonder if I should work on networking badge or SQL. Should go along nicely with learning SQL.
