Q: Mirroring download.docker.com with debmirror

TyderianI'm running an apt mirror server for an isolated network, which successfully mirrors Debian, Ubuntu and a number of apt-based repositories using the debmirror utility (v2.27). Unfortunately the script syntax that I've crafted using debmirror does not work for download.docker.com. I've tried a nu...

My cousin in Atlanta is stuck, needs to make a bootable thumbdrive, his computer isn't working, all he has is his android phone, some empty thumb drives, wifi, and a converter that lets him connect his thumbdrives to his phone. Any suggestions?

3:37 AM
@AaronHall get a terminal emulator and use dd
maybe? will probably require root tho
and that's assuming both the phone and adapter support USB OTG

He's not that leet...
He's a noob.

Well there's an app in the store I see called ISO 2 USB. Maybe try that?

I found an app that's supposed to make a thumbdrive bootable from android without root, so I think he's going to be able to do that...

or EtchDroid

"USB - Bootable USB Methods:Install Multi Windows"
The reviews seem... weird.
@Seth oh yeah, EtchDroid is the one I told him to use...

3:44 AM
Lemme know if it works
someone help pls. This sounds like Adam Young but I can't find the track anywhere.
It's killing me for some reason. I could swear I've heard that before...

I'm just trying to get him to stop trying to recover Windows. He literally paid $49 for a tech support call with a free followup... He upgraded... from 7 to 8 to 8.1 to 10 Home and for some reason decided he needed 10 pro - which is where it went wrong.

throws nickle "Get yourself a better computer kid"

Hey @seth lol

hey jasper lol

Am I right that is jrg?

3:52 AM
it is jrg
you can tell because he's the one with a sane expression on his face.
idk what I was thinking.. but I look like an idiot xD

I see that you and jrg have not changed much over the past decade or so

I mean, I haven't even been here a decade (although we're getting closer..)
James might have just hit a decade? Or he's just under a decade.

I did not like ubuntu mate 18.04

Oh?

The menus were a bit messed up
The icons on the menus were not the same as before

3:53 AM
To be honest I've had to use Windows 10 for school. I don't anymore but I hated the new "unity" replacement so I've procrastinated installing Linux.

And no matter which theme I tried it was very ugly

Oh dang :/
They didn't just move the cheese, they changed its color too!

So maybe I will try ubuntu 18.10 with the new gnome shell and new icons
And I think linux mint just gets more bloated with each release
Many features I don't need

You can install just cinnamon on Ubuntu. Maybe that's the best of both worlds for you?

And debian is getting more bloated too
In fact debian seems to be getting more buggy over the years
It's strange how good things get worse and bad things get better sometimes
The world just goes round and round
I recently got a new windows 10 computer
So I will use that as my primary machine now
linux will just be for my old backup machine

3:57 AM
Windows 10 is terrible. But it's also not bad.

Windows 10 also has lots of bugs

Like, it's a decent OS. When it works it's great. But lots of spying happening and it also has a bunch of bugs.

But with my new hardware it is very fast, and I get to use windows software

That's nice.
I have a few Windows only games too.

Anyway if you are bored you can check out my new youtube channel in my profile
Bye bye!

3:58 AM
Ok!
Have a good morning/afternoon/evening @JasperLoy :)

4:20 AM
@Seth windows games are no longer really an issue :)
spend the past days playing through witcher III

@Videonauth nice, I've been hearing good things about gaming on linux...

@AaronHall the past 4 weeks have been a blast
the developtment on proton and wine and dxvk is moving on by the minute
its even hard to keep up with updates and all around :)
and more and more windows games work out of the box nearly
this database of games from steam is growing by the minute too

4:55 AM
@Videonauth and I have one or two that won't run in Linux ;)

@Seth oh which ones?

@Videonauth Sea of Thieves is the big one.
MS owns the game studio so.. haha
It's DRM'd to the moon and back.

well but is that a native linux game?
oh misunderstoof that well if you tried to run it through steam with steamplay proton/proton beta you should report your findings here spcr.netlify.com/app/635390
well im off for now laying down a bit and at least give my eyes a rest (eventhou i might not sleep as always)

@ThomasWard @Rinzwind thanks for the help with my TLS questions yesterday... I figured it out myself, eventually, so I enabled TLSv1 for testing. Turns out some/most of our users had custom code(C/C#/C++) that connected using TLSv1.... We've disabled that, and their code stopped working.... TLSv1, released in the f'ing 90s, and they hard coded that. Un f'ing believable!

Q: Ubuntu Unity top panel buttons are stuck at lockscreen

Z1kkuratAfter updating Ubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04 (using Unity), I started to observe a very strange behaviour: sometimes after locking screen (Win + L) and some random events (I tried but failed to figure out which exactly) buttons in top panel become "pressed" but no dropdown shown. That's not a probl...

Q: Automated logout of present session to refresh group commands?

Wind Up Lord VexxosSo, I'm looking at automating a setup of service instances with AWS. AWS allows you to run shell scripts on instance creation. However, I've run into one little snag. I want, on initial ssh into the server, use of the docker command. I'm not really devops, so apologies if this is Linux 101 stuf...

Hi all!
Last night I had the joy to learn how it feels to have a joint relocated – twice.
And today I had to deal with a surgeon’s office that is open 4 h/day but the hours are posted nowhere and nobody picks up the phone or, if they do, I get snide remarks instead of answers for not knowing how health bureaucracy works.

D:

At least I’m not paying out of my nose for ER visits.

whichever 4 hours we feel like

Fortunately not. I went into the office in person and, although the surgeon’s office was closed, the receptionist of another doctor in the same shared office gave the hours.
…which differed wildly from those on the door sign.

Q: How do I control whether ZFS arrays show in the devices pane in Ubuntu?

ThoughtcraftI am using Ubuntu Bionic 18.04 with XFCE as my DE. I have mounted a zfs array 'big-tank' to /media/big-tank, however, it does not show up in the devices pane. the new background for 18.10 looks cool :)

@Rinzwind pic?

@KazWolfe I don't see any direct API to list and select a VPN to connect to
it looks like you need to make your own app with a VPNService and use that
