fizz?
@Zanna Yeah, I will only do the audits. Skip the others haha.

@JacobVlijm @ThomasWard Just wondering, which language are you using ? :D

OK, I can retire now
@cl-netbox For what?

lol. I killed the logitech mouse program and then wondered why my settings were suddenly funky

@JacobVlijm Congrats ! so many points ... well done Jacob ! :)
@JacobVlijm bluh ... fizz ... blurgh ... blabber :D :D :D (cc : @ThomasWard)

@cl-netbox Aha, I am not sure, but I used Thomas's dictinary.

5:13 PM
@cl-netbox orbital impact incoming
the toilet from space shall squish thee

@Seth so what do we learn ? never kill a mouse ! :D :D :D Hi Seth ! :)

the toilet from space shall squish tea (thee = tea in Dutch)

hahaha

5:25 PM
AHA, python work coming in from someone dragging around 50% of my genes :)

You have kid(s)?

or a sibling
:P
@terdon i stole your comment and amended my meta post btw

@terdon Seriously, you didn't know?

@JacobVlijm No
@ThomasWard Cool

@terdon She is working in your field

5:29 PM
@JacobVlijm Ah, yes, you had mentioned this. Sorry, slipped my mind.

And here I was thinking parents. But after re-reading it that doesn't make as much sense as kids.

@Seth Ah yes, that could be possible too, but my mother, although still active on computers, won't ask me to do python stuff :)

@Seth The default changes after a certain age. Something like age >= 35 ? kids : parents

My mother is 90, but then again, I am the youngest of her children :)
^ and still spending many hours per day on the computer!

Trying to turn it on?

5:39 PM
LOL

Haha

(sorry, cheapshot)

@terdon if my mother were here she'd slap you

So would mine.

...Calling me very often: "Hey Jacob, what is this" (assuming I can see what she is pointing at)

5:41 PM
"I am not psychic, mother, and I am not there, I can't see what you're pointing at"

I tried that.

oh man. So I know this ex military guy right. He was a technician for radio/radar stuff in the Air Force. He got called in one day by this guy wondering why the equipment wasn't working. He asked "is it on?" the guy responds "yes, it is in the official position.". So he walks in, flips it from OFF to ON.

lol
@Seth oldest joke in the book.

@ThomasWard Except this one actually happened..

still the oldest joke.

5:42 PM
Lol

@Seth was the guy operating the equipment a low rank non-com/enlisted?
(gotta ask xD)

@ThomasWard I'm not sure. But he has another story of an officer (captain iirc) deciding since it was "his" equipment he'd take apart all this multi million dollar equipment with no static protection and scatter the boards all over the carpet.
Then have the ilk to complain when he can't put it back together.

that one i believe.

well you know what they said. Can't make it in the real world? Go into the military!
4

lol
@KazWolfe four seconds later:
orbital strike chaos has ensued.
(Hacking Game Over)
goes back to studying

5:54 PM
@Seth - nice on the descent 2 trailer

do wha?

he pinged me earlier with a some descent 2 having a playable demo now news. i was on about retro games needing remakes at one point, and that one stuck

anyone here that plays Horizon Zero Dawn?
@RobotHumans I want a new Planescape: Torment :P

@Rinzwind that was a good one. wasn't that on kickstarter?

yes it was. game from 1992.

6:06 PM
feb 28 of next year man.... it's coming

meta.askubuntu.com/q/16845/208574 -- vandalized post, i already took care of revert, but should be watched (cc @ThomasWard and/or @Seth)

Can osmeone throw a stock "downvotes on meta work differently" comment on that -^
On mobile.

Don't have the userscript, but I can post something close to it

@RobotHumans it's pretty cool. Too laggy on my older Intel graphics though :(
@RobotHumans thanks

and done. grabbed one from the pro forma comments post on MSO

Hi @Hizqeel ! :) How are you ? Everything fine with you ... and kitty ? :)

@cl-netbox hi :) I am fine .. What about you?? and yes she is also fine :)

@RobotHumans Space between ] and (, if you can fix that'd be great. ty

@Hizqeel That's good news ... I'm fine as well ... and guess what ? I asked a question on AU today ... something I'm doing very, very rarely ... did you accidentally see it ? :D

@cl-netbox No I just logged in 20 minutes ago

6:20 PM
@Hizqeel Ah okay ... then you couldn't see it - I asked it a few hours ago. :)

@cl-netbox I am reading your question right now :)

@Hizqeel nice ... good and useful question (also for other users) ? What about your "ban situation" ? Everything back to normal ? Can you access everything on SE sites without limitations again ? :)

@cl-netbox Banned again but this time due to some other guys but again my mistake and this time the ban is for a month Don't Know why SE so Sensitive

@Hizqeel hmmm ... what was the reason this time ?

@cl-netbox I was reviewing Document Proposal edit.. everything was right well Documented, on topic and helpful I accepted the edit with 3 other Users but after 4 Hours I was banned due to plagiarized Content.. I don't that It was Copied from somewhere, but the wordings were not the same just the code match :(

6:34 PM
@Hizqeel hmmm ... even though I'm not able to judge on that specific thing, it appears to be an extremely hard punishment to get banned for trying to (maybe not perfectly or wrongly) improve content ... at least for me ... :(

@cl-netbox Yes, it is hard for me too to judge whether it is copied from somewhere or not :( , I think that's why SE took 4 hours for the ban :p

@Hizqeel Can you ask a moderator of the specific site to un-ban you by explaining the situation and the reason why did what you did ? :)

hey, @NathanOsman, whenever you're around, please ping me. I need some help with a userscript.

@cl-netbox No I don't want to ... because Ban will be lifted on 12 April so its almost 15 days left
@cl-netbox which version of snapd are you having right now? 2.21 ??

I always have the latest stable versions installed because I update my systems every day ... so snapd version is :
cl@cl-uw-1:~$ apt policy snapd
snapd:
Installed: 2.22.6+16.10
Candidate: 2.22.6+16.10

6:49 PM
@cl-netbox upvoted. but asking questions is for people who do not know how to use google :+D

:P :D :D

user136984
Well, it's not really 'breaking' any more, but nobody seemed to know about it in here...

@ParanoidPanda A new one?
Ah, OK.

@ParanoidPanda It happened almost 3 Hours ago I was aware of it

user136984
6:52 PM
Normally people talk about these sorts of things in here, but maybe that has changed now...

4 hours more like.

user136984
I thought I would announce it anyway just in case.

Sort of

@Rinzwind HA ! thanks ! Hi Rinzy ! :) I asked less than 10 questions so far ... and unfortunately Google must have had "a day off" ... hahaha ... but what is with your "great recommendation" to use man in answers ? Look at my latest answer and see the "poor result" ... seems it doesn't work properly ! :D :D :D

user136984
I was actually near by you know when it happened...

6:55 PM
'

too late for a comment edit unless a mod does it for me, but dropped two more comments to be clear @KazWolfe

@ParanoidPanda I am very glad that you survived it ... good evening my friend ! :)

@ParanoidPanda Blame game is ON

@RobotHumans Edited.

@jokerdino - thanks

7:08 PM

Q: Linux System User for running services and software?

DalaiI am new to Linux. I want to create a development server (Gitlab/Tomcat,...) I have already installed Ubuntu 16.10 LTS I have read in forums that it is wise to create special users without login access and restricted permissions using the useradd command Now I want to install gitlab and run i...

@RobotHumans can't you use virtualenv to avoid that?

binary components, so no. could use conda(venv on steroids) or a docker container, but with the docker container, apis changed between versions, so my dev would be different than my test/deploy

@KazWolfe won't be home until this evening. I'll try to remember to ping you then.
@RobotHumans ah. I wonder if virtualization would work.

7:16 PM
@NathanOsman VM stuff could work, but then i'ld have to run a VM just for sublime... and i don't want to do that. docker is a solution, but i haven't dug in to a plugin that lets me edit remote code much beyond mounting over ssh, which is bad. pretty sure just imaging the drive and starting fresh is a good idea. i do it every 2-4 years.
i've been working around a compiz crashing on startup bug anyway. so it's time

@RobotHumans Docker lets you mount volumes from the host in the container.

it does. but it doesn't feel right.

That's what most people do.
It's the easiest way to develop.

mount the volume. run remotely. try it out. etc etc. and yes, i understand. it just doesn't feel right.
i'm still on 14.04 anyway, and it'ld be a 16.04 upgrade. so it's probs time for it anyway

Or... hold out for a month and upgrade to 17.04.

7:21 PM
LTS brother, LTS

I just got lazy

I'm still on 16.04 but I'm planning to upgrade all but my servers to 17.04.

I really just need to back up ~/ and grab all the remembered logins for chrome and chromium

Those should be in ~.

7:24 PM
Should be, I just don't trust it until I write it down.
Oddly, I just found out that a person working in a mac shop I applied to uses an Android phone, which is a nice reprieve. The fact that they didn't see all the deprecation errors when installing something and want to fix it blew my mind a little though.
Anyway, not our topic.

Q: Fish Shell - function name conflicts with apt package in Ubuntu

sceoI have created a fish function named proot but there is an Ubuntu package with the same name. When I type 'proot' into my fish shell, I get ~> proot The program 'proot' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install proot Running functions -n does show ...

@JacobVlijm that's what I was thinking. Assuming you can smell audits, could be very lucrative

7:58 PM
@cl-netbox not sure yet man, maybe next month, maybe later, I'm still sorting out some of the basic stuff, still need a washing machine and a small oven to cook small stuff :p
But no hurries, everything is working out at its time :)

I am trying to modify my old wiki (wiki.ubuntu.com/karthick87) and noticed that i am not able to modify it. Is there any recent change is editing the wiki?

sorted out my dependency hell. thanks SE. no thanks unhelpful error messages :)

user136984
@karthick87: You either have to been an approved member of the wiki editors team on LaunchPad or an Ubuntu member.

user136984
This is in response to lots of abuse and spam that they have had there recently so.

user136984
Or at least that was the case last time I looked.

user136984
8:08 PM
So if it's still not letting you, I would assume that it is still the case.

Yep. I got someone to modify a wiki for me a long time ago. Game cross-compile thing.

user136984
You should be able to apply for the LP team.

ok, thank you @ParanoidPanda so do i need to get in touch with some wiki team member to get the rights?

user136984
@karthick87: You will need to request membership through LP and then either be part of lots of teams, have a great and long track record on LP, or have a recommendation from someone already part of the LP team.

Thank you o/

user136984
8:11 PM
Since you created your own wiki there you could contact them and give that as the reason, they might just accept that because it should be obvious then that you are not a spammer in disguise.

user136984
@karthick87: You're welcome, I hope they approve you. :)

Yep, lets see :)

8:30 PM
@karthick87 - if you don't get an accept, you might ping ThomasWard nicely. He's the one that did the edit for me last time.

@RobotHumans thank you. I will ping him :)

9:07 PM
@JacobVlijm hey, congrats on reaching 50k ! Keep up the good job

@Serg Thanks :)

At least it wasn't on the 4th of november...

user136984
@Serg: And I was in the area...

@ParanoidPanda Glad you weren't in the harm's way

user136984
@Serg: So am I.

user136984
Getting late...

10:12 PM
