@Zanna did you read the reddit stories yet

user136984
Sorry I wasn't responding to anyone! Just couldn't tear my eyes away from this even to click the like button until afterwards! :D

@Serg how's that so far

@Zacharee1 em . . .add two rectangles (on top and bottom). Also , make lines thicker - thin lines are hard to see them on the panel

OK

10:09 PM
Like that ^

Which side looks better?

one minute

Water at 1/4000s.

user136984
Right, well, goodnight folks! :)

buh bye

10:18 PM
@NathanOsman omg lower the iso
Nice pic! :p

@Zacharee1 That's too high?

@NathanOsman I've experimented after looking stuff up online. The camera screen preview may look noisier at low ISO at night, but it's actually much less so when you copy it to the computer

@Serg I've made two images, one with the thin and one with the thick lines. Just tell me which you want

@Zacharee1 OK. Just make them silver color plz

10:23 PM
OK
can I keep working in black until it's done though?

@Zacharee1 sure

ISO100, f/4.0, 1/125s.

@NathanOsman nice

I'm having a bit of strange thing here, indicator starts but doesn't show up on the pannel

10:24 PM
I don't think I had the right part of the image in focus.
Autofocus was useless with the water.

@NathanOsman autofocus likes to get confused

And manual focus... well, it's difficult to do correctly.

if you set it to single point mode it works better though
@NathanOsman agreed :p

@Zacharee1 I specifically bought a camera with 9 autofocus points.

@NathanOsman yeah, but if you need to focus on something weird like that, set it to single point

10:26 PM
God, as someone who uses spaces, I wanna strangle a tabs user

I guess I'm a tabs guy
I actually take the effort to delete spaces and substitute them with tabs when I paste code on my editor haha

@IanC no offense . I'm just rewriting old code into new one that was edited by another user, who uses tabs. it just drives me a bit nuts when code isn't aligned as i like

hahaha, didn't take it as an offense! :)
but doesn't python actually use tabs to define scope?
or you can use spaces too?

10:33 PM
Python allows both, but PEP8 as far as I remember requires that you choose just one and be consistent with it

@Serg

@Zacharee1 looks ok, but i cannot test it yet, because my bloody indicator doesn't show up on the panel

lol

OOOOOOHHHHH

@edwinksl LOL, is this Sillicon Valley? I've heard of it but never watched

10:36 PM
@IanC yes it is. i have only watched the first season :P
it is not for everyone though lol
i can easily see some people getting offended by it or not understanding a single thing

@Serg that one's a bit better with the sand ^

if the rest is like this scene I definitely want to watch it @edwinksl!

no harm trying since you are a programmer :P

@edwinksl Neither of them should have the right to argue about programming syntax when they BOTH USE MACS

OK, this is ridiculous . I see no issue with the code. and yet it doesn't show up

10:40 PM
reboooot

@Zacharee1 but macs galore in silicon valley. it is nauseating.
it is almost like people forget it is wayyyyy overpriced

I was never amused by apple
something about it makes me actually not even want to try it

@IanC is it the price tag?

thats probably the biggest reason!
hahaha

Why is it that we can't use both spaces and tabs for different uses? I use tabs in my Arduino and Java IDEs, because that's how they both make indents. It's also a lot more convenient in an IDE, since it will fix formatting if you break it. Spaces are good for when you need or prefer to use 2/4 instead of 4/8 spacing. They're also good for websites, which usually unfocus textboxes on TAB.

10:47 PM
I mainly use tabs because they are usually formated to look the same on apps that show text, while space can be not aligned sometimes (at least on libreoffice I guess that happens). And it's much easier to type tab once than space 4+ times :p
I like being able to type fast, not sure if that's a good thing for a programmer though haha

That's why one uses an IDE with monospace font and tab-to-4-spaces-converter

I can't find a nice video stabilizing app that is easy to use. I'm going to write one.
Disappears into laboratory...

@ByteCommander yeah, I use Geany which uses monospaced fonts, but not sure if it converts the tabs into 4 spaces though

god, this is frustrating

@ByteCommander exactly what i do :p

10:54 PM
@Serg code?

@Seth coming in a minute, smoking right now

k

cat found dead mouse.
maybe i should throw it away ?

yay

or found live mouse.

10:55 PM
eat it
We support unofficial kernels on Ubuntu right? askubuntu.com/questions/823775/…

@Zacharee1 i prefer beef

as in kernels that don't come on any release
@Serg mouseburger

ew

You need to tell the cat "You keep what you kill"

10:57 PM
@NathanOsman How many empty projects do you have? :P

@NathanOsman yessssss

@Seth Hey, I finish quite a few of them... well, some of them :P
I finished the last couple.

better than me anyway :P

@Zacharee1 Might be a couple weeks before it's ready for testing.

@Zacharee1 what's the icon size ?

10:58 PM
512x512

ok. that's not the issue

@Serg have you configured your launcher-list app as a start up daemon on your computer?

@IanC yup, it starts when i login

you used the Upstart GUI?

@Zacharee1 do we? i recall seeing pilot6 writing comments that say we don't

11:01 PM
idk

@IanC Startup Applications. It's in the dash.

@Serg plug it into USB port
4

@ByteCommander I don't have tail to USB converter

do you have an entry on /etc/init.d or /etc/init with the launcher-list name? @Serg
I might be doing it the hard way, but thought would be good to try making a app a daemon directly through the /etc/init folder
good for learning*

@IanC nope, it's a .desktop file in ~/.config/autostart
$ cat /home/xieerqi/.config/autostart/launcher-list-indicator.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Exec=python3 /home/xieerqi/GIT_REPOS/launcher-list-indicator/launcher-list-indicator
Hidden=false
NoDisplay=false
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=true

11:06 PM
got it
I think I might even run into some issues trying the /etc/init.d path, since the app depends on Gtk

@IanC /etc/init.d is not for GUI stuff

if it's loaded before it, the app will probably crash

@IanC if you want to autostart GUI, always use Startup Applications
search it up in dash

@Serg You just need USB type C. Everything fits in every orientation.

cool, anyways to configure it for all users? Or should I just run StartUp Applications on all users and set it individually?
man, I was so close to finishing the init.d script, should have thought about the dependency problem earlier -.-

11:09 PM
@IanC place that .desktop file into /etc/xdg/autostart
It will work for all users

cool, at least I learned a bit about how daemons set up themselfs
they call a few scripts that have some extra functions, like /lib/lsb/init-functions, use a binary called start-stop-daemon (suggestive name)
and at least the one I looked used a PID file to store the current daemon PID
so it could parse it to the start-stop-daemon for checking if the daemon is still up (avoiding double starts) or to kill the daemon in a service daemon stop
I think I'll even keep the script, feeling sad about deleting it now hahaha

so far i am staying away from that stuff, i am more into desktop stuff rightnow

this can now be reopened askubuntu.com/questions/823752/…

k
@Serg does it work yet?

Nope
i've no idea

11:23 PM
sigh
maybe redownload your code?
or close one of your other indicators?
I could reboot to Ubuntu and try it

The code does everything the same the other indicators do
i don't understand why on earth it doesn't work

it's running right?

it runs, no errors
but it doesn't show no icon and no label
screw this, i'm rewriting this from scratch

that's one way to do it

which code is giving you a hard time @Serg?

11:25 PM
have you tried running it manually though? maybe it throws some errors

Yup, rewrote it, now it works

wat
is it because you used tabs?
:p

@Zacharee1 it better not be. And it wasn't me who was using tabs. I thought to reuse the code for lks-indicator, which was edited by another guy who made deb file for me

@Zacharee1 don't trigger serg

@Serg where's your "mughsot" again?

11:33 PM
wut ?
Oh, hellnaw ! You ain't making me into a meme

got it
aw yea

@Serg but you are already a walking meme ;p

@edwinksl That's why i don't need extra burden

wattf

@Zacharee1 make the lines much much thicker . . .

11:37 PM
Are you using the right image? It looks weird

Exactly the one you gave

it's missing the sand so it can't be

@Zacharee1 scratch that, i was using the older version
Well . . . black looks good on grey , eh ?

but it doesn't fit with everything else

That's why I asked for silver in the first place XD

11:42 PM
Well black is default on GIMP so I used it to build it :p
Sergiy Hintsalotzhanyy
oh
I need to fix the sand gap don't I

Lookin' good.

user image

and that @Serg

16 mins ago, by Serg
Oh, hellnaw ! You ain't making me into a meme

@Zacharee1 i applaud your effort

11:51 PM
You think that thing took effort? eksdee

that could be your new avatar

@Zacharee1 Squiiiieeeek!
