@edwinksl OK, good
i'm not insane
really interesting though, it doesn't do that in a chrome incognito window (ubuntu)
chrome, firefox, chrome incognito

I really don't like it.
My reaction to the new #GitHub font changes: https://t.co/IMf1cHUJw2

Does anyone know how I can send messages between two gnome-terminal windows on 16.04 using write or wall?
I can send them from gnome-terminal to TTY1 after enabling them there with mesg y, but I can't make the gnome-terminals receive any message somehow.
Ideas?

I don't think it's possible.
@Serg was playing around with that a while back IIRC.

We've got that question here again: askubuntu.com/q/797516/367990
Why should it not be possible? I can echo "test" > /dev/pts/17 for example and that writes to the other gnome-terminal as well.
But this does not work:
$ write bytecommander /dev/pts/17
write: bytecommander is not logged in on pts/17
I am logged in there though.

I haven't the slightest idea.

Do you guys think that there will ever be an AskFedora site on SE?

stupid gnome-terminal... :-/
@ParanoidPanda Time will tell. Go to Area51 and make it happen.

@ParanoidPanda One already exists: ask.fedoraproject.org

user136984
@NathanOsman: Isn't that a forum though?

It's an SE clone.

What Linux distro uses "Rosa" as release name?
3
Mint?
Mate?

user136984
8:18 PM
@Nathan: Oh... Didn't know you could do that...

user136984
What, an actual clone? Or is it just made to be like it?

@ByteCommander Mint.
@ParanoidPanda It is made to mimic the appearance and behavior.
Version 17.3 to be exact.

Then this is off-topic (Mint specific): askubuntu.com/q/797524/367990
Why did anybody star my message "What Linux distro uses "Rosa" as release name?"?
So useless...

user136984
@ByteCommander: That's just what I was thinking...

I guess it's someone new who hasn't quite got the hang of when and what to star.

he is not real ?

he who?

haha the post got deleted, so no need for the message from @ThomasW.

Thomas

Ah. Duh. Mind becomes slow...

8:29 PM
between I did not star any of those
Theresa May to replace Cameron as UK prime minister on Wednesday

Does anybody want to play a quick game of Cards against Humanity or will I have to join strange online people?

8:48 PM
@ByteCommander but the Dark Lords do.
that said, it's an obsolete post :P
@Zanna yep the purging of the Obsolete Posts.

Q: Remove injected code from all php files in directory on Ubuntu

Mankind1023I have a site where some code was injected into a very large number of php files, removing them manually is not really feasible due to the number. I can search for a variable name from the injected code in all files and it gives me a list of the affected ones, but I can't put the actual code in ...

I'm laughing at my answer to that... because I've been there, and I know the true answer :P

user136984
Turns out there is a proper way of doing this in Firefox without the need for addons! :)

A: How to disable HTTP referrer in Firefox?

mchidIn the URL bar of Firefox, go to about:config. In the search box of the about:config page, enter the following: Network.http.sendRefererHeader Double click on Network.http.sendRefererHeader and change the value from 2 to 0 to disable the referrer header. The following values are accepted: ...

@UbuntuQuestionsonU&L is @terdon around? Bet he'll get a chuckle at that question on U&L

9:04 PM
Why are referrers bad?

user136984
@Zacharee1: They tell a website from which website you just came, that can be a privacy issue.

user136984
Do you really want every website you go to from a search engine to know what you searched for?

user136984
And there are other things like that which might be unexpected but might happen.

hmm
didn't know that happened :p
is that what nofollow is for?

user136984
Nofollow?

9:12 PM
an HTML property for links

user136984
Probably.

it would make sense, because scrapers use it

user136984
The referrer can contain a lot more information though than just the page you came from though so it can be a real big privacy problem. Even if you load an image from an external source you are telling that source which address you are now at.

if it can hide them from the source
I don't really see the issue with having sites know how I got to them though

user136984
Don't images bother you at all?

9:14 PM
I think if I had an image in my site, I'd like to be able to find out where else it might be

user136984
It bothers me that every image on the site is constantly being told where I am.

user136984
I can see why some people might like it for their statistics, but I certainly don't want to be spied on like that. It's probably fine in most cases, but if you're always giving your web location to lots of random websites I think that that might be a bad idea...

why though?
They can't do anything with it except stats

user136984
Well, for instance someone could email me an image from an external source and find out what my email address is when I view it. Or click a link.

and it's useful if you're the content creator to have an easy means to see at least some of the places using your stuff
@ParanoidPanda I thought it only sent the domain

user136984
9:17 PM
Domain, page, title, and apparently a huge amount of other things (don't know what though)...

@ParanoidPanda Hang on. They email you to figure out your email?

user136984
:D

user136984
Well, imagine a friend emailed me an image on a third-party server, or a link, I don't want the owner of that third-party server to get my email address.

ah
but it sounds like you don't actually know that referrals send emails

user136984
I use a mail provider which puts the email in the title, it will always be there.

9:20 PM
hmm
don't use it then

user136984
So now can I not click links or look at images in my emails?

user136984
I have disabled the referrer thing for domains which are not the same.

no, don't use an email provider that puts your email in the site title

user136984
Well, I've been using this email provider for a long time and it would be rather hard to just switch to another... I've got a huge amount of accounts linked and emails for that matter. It would be too much of a hassle for something that can be fixed by disabling the offender so easily.

@ParanoidPanda You know what the most strange sender address was from which I got a spam mail?

user136984
9:22 PM
No, what?

My own.

@ParanoidPanda forward everything somewhere else

user136984
:D

@ByteCommander dad@i.am.your.father.net? <-- that's the most odd spam sender address I've seen
there's far worse, but I can't share them :)

but better to restrict some site than restrict yourself

user136984
9:22 PM
@Zacharee1: It's not worth it if I can just disable the feature in the browser. I don't lose anything, just gain more privacy.

@ThomasW. It had my mail address both as sender and destination.

@ParanoidPanda I guess
@ByteCommander that'll work

@ByteCommander yup. I have that as the SOP for my Nessus scanner
send to itself, BCC to me
(and postfix sends 'itself' to /dev/null)

That's a clever way to bypass spam filters and external content blocker - who would not trust their own mail address, right?

user136984
The feature could really have a much larger and unforeseen impact than what it was originally intended for. Your information is sent to so many random servers all the time because of this that really something private will get into the wrong hands at some point.

9:23 PM
@ByteCommander raises hand

user136984
Or advertisers will start collecting data on you.

Well, after that one, me too...

@ParanoidPanda cause that doesn't happen already

@ByteCommander Except i'm paranoid as heck, so... :P

user136984
@Zacharee1: It does, but this will decrease it in this area at least.

9:24 PM
@ThomasW. There's a certain panda who may have you beat
This scam email has the whole thing in the subject xD

Does anybody know whether the volume and brightness scale can be changed? To a logarithmic one ideally?

doubt it
not without recoding it

lol
I almost believed it too, when I first got it

Please Don't Caps Every Single Word

Why Shouldn't I? It Makes Me Seem All Smart And Intelligent.
that's a dangerous scam though. It actually looks real and the link goes to an Apple site clone
what's with scam emails sending the content all in the subject line? Do they think it'll get around spam filters?

@ThomasW.: Do you use Tox by the way? :)

oops sorry to uk people in this chat ispokemongoavailableyet.com

not again Pokemon

welcome to the hype

almost every site I browsed today had Pokemon mentioned

@ParanoidPanda Tox?
@edwinksl Funny story on that
Pokemon Go is a huge security risk http://adamreeve.tumblr.com/post/147120922009/pokemon-go-is-a-huge-security-risk
2
confirmed it earlier today
requires "Full Access" to your google account
E: Too Many Permissions, Insecure, Security and Privacy Risk. FORCE-KILL PROCESS.

user136984
10:12 PM
@ThomasW.: Tox is an open-source alternative to Skype with many clients. It is not dependant on a central server so works a little like Tor in some ways.

@ParanoidPanda is it cross-platform?

user136984
Yes

@ThomasW. wait, you don't know about Tox?

the use of the word "complaint" sounds to me OP thinks we are customer service :P askubuntu.com/questions/797551/trusty-tahr-upgrade-failed

lol
@Zacharee1 Heard about it, haven't dug deep into it
Banned at the workplace because of network restrictions (we block Tor from the corporate net too)

10:14 PM
I thought you were the one who was posting the links to the split up of qTox

user136984
@ThomasW.: If you do look into it I'd recommend the uTox client, that doesn't require any additional dependencies. qTox was good until they basically ended proper support for Linux and then started swearing at their users.

@edwinksl we are though. We get a salary of $1m USD. Have you not gotten a check yet?

@ParanoidPanda The fact anyone is swearing at users makes me say "eeeeehhh... nothanks"
:P

check your spam folder if you haven't. It comes from Western Union in the form of a Nigerian Prince scam, just so you know it's them

@Zacharee1 damn it google did put it in spam; i am gonna sue them for denying my moolah

10:15 PM
@ThomasW. they had a breakup. So big, Taylor Swift even wrote a song about it :p

user136984
@ThomasW.: They had an argument with the core and have almost completely disconnected from them, but that's only one Qt-based Tox client, the others are just as good with better people maintaining them. They even have a CLI client.

@edwinksl :p
@ParanoidPanda recommend the CLI to @KazWolfe

user136984
It's called Toxic. :)

@Zacharee1 i am a swiftie but i am not aware of said song. can you please provide a link

you saw the sarcasm, right?

10:18 PM
i know

good

i am trying to play along, now just give me the damn link

@CodeX Funny story. Had someone ask me for a device profile that removed apps that meet certain patterns. Pokemon Go was one of them. Lol.
so I gave them one. :P

10:24 PM
xD

fun = denied :(

So I just downloaded it and signed in on Android. Doesn't even show up as a linked app on Google
Which confirms it's iOS specific

maybe you can play with limiting permission using privacy guard and if it works without internet .. block it with firewall app
but still sign in thing cant be solved

iOS has no privacy guard

@Zacharee1 Yes it does. "No Third-Party Apps" in a profile generation. Install profile. All non-Apple apps go away. NUKE THE APPS FROM ORBIT!!!

10:28 PM
oh was talking about android .. no clue about iOS

@ThomasW. not what he or I meant

Yes, I know :)
but still.

sigh
wow

the issue is that it's still a massive security hole. Haven't confirmed on Android, but did on my iPhone

it only needs iOS 8.0 or later

10:29 PM
and an iPad.

I thought for sure it would be something ridiculous, like iOS 10.1 or later
and that hasn't even been released

Ubuntu lovers using iOS :P

it crashed on me
on the iPad
it keeps crashing right as it asks me for the first permission
aha jailbreak

People keep saying it's fine because Niantic is owned by Alphabet, so they already have access to your Google stuff. There are a few things wrong with that.
First, even if they were a fellow subsidiary, they wouldn't have full access to other subsidiaries' data
Second, they aren't even part of Google or Alphabet anymore
They became independent when Alphabet was announced
Niantic, Inc. is a software development company best known for developing the augmented reality mobile games Ingress and Pokémon Go. It was formed by Keyhole, Inc. founder John Hanke in 2010 as Niantic Labs, an internal startup at Google. It spun out of Google as an independent entity in October 2015, soon after Google's announcement of its restructuring as Alphabet Inc. Niantic's systems utilize high throughput real-time geospatial querying and indexing techniques to process more than 200 million game actions per day as people interact with real and virtual objects in the physical world. 2...

I need scripting ideas . . . I've basically knocked out one old question although haven't posted yet . Now need ideas

make a script that'll do my homework

11:31 PM
You know StackOverflow policy on homework

@Serg you did it

Ta-da , Serg strikes again !

No entiendo una palabra

Wow. KDE Plasma is nice.

11:33 PM
@NathanOsman is it very resource-demanding ?

@CodeX Google Translate is working well for Spanish

yeah KDE looks awesome

wow

xD

@Serg very

11:33 PM
@Serg Runs fine on a VM with 1 GB of RAM.

but it's got soo many features

don't make me format my laptop again

Lol.
Doooo eeeeeet.

So who's worse, Unity or KDE ? I mean, interms of lag

I haven't compared them very thoroughly yet.

11:35 PM
KDE is better .. has more feature but more bugs also

@Serg last time I tried (15.10), KDE uses more

More bugs than Unity?
Is that possible?

Unity is smooth

It is?

and Gnome is a pain

11:36 PM
Well, we can all agree on that one.

lol

Gnome is a trainwreck on wheels.

@NathanOsman compared to latest KDE Plasma?

KDE! KDE! KDE!

yes, Unity is smooth compared to that

11:36 PM

@CodeX The RSS or weather ideas will require parsing XML or HTML , which I am shy of doing :/ I'm more interested in something for Unity , for Launcher and workspaces , and windows - stuff like that

has been on an Lord of The Rings binge recently

11:38 PM
@ThomasW. that could have been understood entirely differently

Is it normal if I start doing Irish accent after I watch JackSepticeye

Woi yehs

@serg it will be for unity ..once you make the script I will add it to indicator-sysmonitor applet

@Zacharee1 True. That said, i'm a little more annoying this evening :p
than normal

I like Scottish accent

11:40 PM
annoying isn't the word I was thinking of
@CodeX I like trains

:P

VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

@Zacharee1 in that case install sl programm

wut

@Zacharee1 that sounds like a very noisy train

11:41 PM
Have you never seen asdf?

@Zacharee1 sl , steam locomotive. If you mistype ls as sl , it will show ascii animation of a locomotive in terminal

lol

@CodeX scottish accent is incomprehensible

privacidad de in Google came up with privacidad de telegram

remember how we were reading the ridiculous reviews on products on amazon ?

11:42 PM

I'm now getting ads for some of those XD
