user136984
6:14 PM
@NathanOsman: I am executing a cunning and evil plan by the way, your penguin is paying me with fish... He is ordering me to get him more YouTube views, so has devised an evil plan, which is now being executed... >:P

^^

@ByteCommander fair enough. :)

user136984
@NathanOsman: And there is more truth in that than you think... :D

\o/

6:14 PM
Except for the splash screen, there is no big optical change.

user136984
6:17 PM
@Terrance: I've just been sitting here, typing, and eating cake... So it's taking a snooze... :D

user136984
Oh no! I've run out of cake and it won't allow me to get up!

@ParanoidPanda =)

Speaking of food, I need lunch.

Give it a good smack until it wakes up again...

user136984
6:19 PM

user136984
Although could you fly at a speed around the world so that you could take a day to travel, however arrive on the same day you left, at the same time? :D

Nono 20:23

user136984
6:24 PM
@NathanOsman: If my cunning plan works your penguin should get more views, or I might lose some... Or both... :D

user136984
I guess we will see! :D

It's at 70 views now.

user136984
I hope it will go higher, now that my cunning plan is in place... >:P

user136984
@NathanOsman: You see I run a reasonably successful YouTube channel, and I have set it so that it will recommend your penguin video with 70 views at the end of al of my videos... :D I have also set your penguin's channel as a recommended channel on my channel home... So although things have been a bit quiet lately with my channel, I get a couple of hundred views each month... So some people should go to your video... :D

Cool!

user136984
6:39 PM

user136984
@NathanOsman: So people should see this:

7:21 PM
Yes, it's one of the greatest songs by them!

Sounds great

@A.B. It is a Confused guy with a question mark in response to what @NathanOsman found.

Q: How to safely change the names of items in the system settings

Paranoid PandaI am running Ubuntu Gnome 15.04, with Gnome Shell, and Gnome 3.14, and in my gnome-control-center I have many items, one of which is called Sound, now I don't like this name and would like to change it to Audio Control, and I would also like to change the image to a custom one, so how can this be...

user136984
:)

ParanoidPanda why the need to include OS and package information? and with every question even.

user136984
I don't know... I just think people might need it sometimes... :P

user136984
8:30 PM
@Rinzwind: And it makes a tinny question look bigger! :D

I would assume you are using 15.04 is the OS is not mentioned.
To me that info distracts from the question ;)
My eyes always want to see the bold and text between ` 's first :P

Anyone knows what .desktop file will be taken if there's one in /usr/share/applications/ and one in ~/.local/share/applications with the same name? Should be the one in my home folder, right?

And to answer: I would asssume there is a translation file for that package. That might be the best way to change it @ParanoidPanda

But when I right-click on that icon in my Unity launcher, it's still the old one in /usr.

@ByteCommander the one in /home/ takes precedence over the system wide one

8:32 PM
How do I force it to update?
Do I have to logout/-in again or can I command it to do so?

make sure it is actually the same and does not have a capital char where the other is lower case
log out would be the easiest I assume

user136984
@ByteCommander: Give it chocolate cake! Nothing, not even it, can resist that! :P

@ParanoidPanda you got an answer :+)
afk. watching Resident Evil <3

user136984
8:50 PM
@NathanOsman: My desktop now: :)

user136984
It's perfect!

aw, poor ppc, osx 10.4 finally died on it

8:53 PM
Died?

I thought Macs never died.

tried to update a system file to run android file transfer, so I actually killed it...

user136984
Is there any way to get images to play audio?

user136984
Normal audio file formats that is.

user136984
Or ones that would be accepted on imgur.

user136984
8:55 PM
Oooh! I have 4.9k now!

user136984

the last two are the same

user136984
@Mateo: I think not, the eyes are closer together on the third one.

it's all an illusion

@ParanoidPanda It looks just like George.

I can't seem to get to it... The link is not loading for me...

user136984
9:04 PM
Can you post a picture of the page?

user136984

@Mateo: Ah yes, that must be what I am seeing! :D

user136984
@Mateo: I don't know, I don't really like the look in his eye... :D

user136984
9:09 PM
Plus, he's a panda, and not a penguin... Although it is slightly worrying how long it took me to realise that! :D

user136984

user136984
@NathanOsman @Mateo: Do you guys remember Ping Pong? ^^ :D

user136984

Argument going around in circles
No the problem is it's not protected to begin with — Randol Albert 1 min ago
Anybody care to step in?
What's with all the toys? O.o

@muru done

Thanks. <insert-take-off-on-jetpack-ascii-art>

downvote and move along - no such thing as hacker proof with physical access

I didn't want to downvote, though. Thought maybe somebody could explain it better.

9:26 PM
also, I didn't even need a cd anymore to change an osx password
and even with the protection there was a bypass...

in OSX? O.o

yeah, took two min...

<shrug> never going to buy Apple stuff anyway. :D

so steps:
Hold ⌘R on startup
Open Terminal from the Utilities menu
Type resetpassword and follow the instructions
bam that easy
they actually made it easier in newer versions...

There's actually instructions? Is that a security hole or just being über user-friendly?

9:30 PM
meh, same thing
similar to what he was talking about - implement a security - he knows a bypass - implement another - but now they can get the keys form memory or something - implement another - OH they can pull the drive and decrypt it... never ends

user136984
Right well anyway...

user136984
Goodnight guys! :)

@ParanoidPanda See you later.

user136984
:D

9:57 PM
@muru In help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Passwords the part that starts with Superuser and passwords, there is a part about protecting submenus

That's... a lot.

looks like mostly my scope researching

10:13 PM
@Terrance O.o
Are you talking of the OSX thing that Mateo was talking about, or the GRUB entry editing question?

@muru it was about protecting the submenus that Randol Albert was complaining about.
The OSX thing, you can also hold down ⌘S at startup and get into Single User mode and change any password you want.

@Terrance Oh. You can tell him that, but I doubt it'd break the cycle of argument. Randol wants to disable editing altogether, and it seems setting passwords on the entries don't prevent that.

@muru Yeah, true. But there is a part there that states: "Note: GRUB 2 1.99 in 12.04 LTS doesn't protect submenu, ie. command line, entry editing and access to entries is not protected! See bug 718670. The workaround is to export superusers variable by adding to the above export superusers"
Just thought I would share that.

10:39 PM
@ParanoidPanda: I'm gone for a day and I find 10 messages from you...
Which is still relevant?

@muru I answered it:

A: how to prevent changes in the grub menu

TerranceIf you look at this page here in the Superuser & Password Designation section, you will see that it specifically states that: Note: GRUB 2 1.99 in 12.04 LTS doesn't protect submenu, ie. command line, entry editing and access to entries is not protected! See bug 718670. However, they cla...

Nice!

11:19 PM
@Mateo and then, after a while you get lost in your own tabs xD
"I knew it said it in one of these tabs..."

yeah, need alt+tab for tabs or somethign
wasn't there a tab search on one of these browsers?

Sometimes I try to use FF's tab groups to organize it some, but it doesn't help too much.
@Mateo mmmm, I do not recall.

Do you use Tab Mix Plus?
I have it installed and it gives me - wait for it - three rows of tabs :P

LOL

It works fairly well if you have less than about 30 tabs.

11:24 PM
well i'm rolling with over 100

How do even find a tab with that many open?

@NathanOsman Luck?
