12:45 AM
This is so weird. The Pi 2 shuts down about 7 seconds slower than the Pi 1 with the exact same card and OS.
Bizarre stuff

@NathanOsman nitroshare.net is down?

Wut.
It's working fine from here.
Are you getting any errors?

so nginx on nitroshare.net and nitroshare.co - add www. and it is webpage not available
let me restart and see

Ah, so it's the www. prefix that's messed up.

Huh. Indeed so

12:48 AM
I'll get it fixed.

I can get nitroshare.net and nitroshare.co, but the addition of the www. prefix just doesn't load

nitroshare.co is supposed to do a 301 redirect to nitroshare.net.

Yup, that's a bug :P

Good. US stock market is making its way back.
Hmmm...Now to find a good stock outside of the tech industry...

1:01 AM
@RPiAwesomeness what did you want me to do? TP to you and bring you a pick axe?

@TheX Well, I was hoping. But, like I said, I figured it out :)
Have you seen my tower yet?

@RPiAwesomeness what did you do? punch your way through?
@RPiAwesomeness no I havne't where is it?

@TheX No, I just wound my way out. Goodness those caves were twisty
@TheX It's out on the plains in front and to the left of your castle.

I'll check it out later

It's got a bunch of trees around it, including too very big pine trees

1:03 AM
So you weren't stuck in the caves just lost...

No...I was guarding diamonds :)

Oh I see...

Logging in right now...

Well. G'night all :)
\o

1:11 AM
@RPiAwesomeness did you steal one of HighLordBishop's horses?

2:02 AM
@TheX Oh. Crap. Those aren't common property? oops :P
I was just using him to explore the lands abroad. I'll return him. Sorry, I thought they were for anyone like the animals (after breeding of course.)
Also. #FirstShaveDidn'tPermanentlyMaimMyself

2:18 AM
@RPiAwesomeness well I don't know... HighLordBishop did all the work to capture, train saddle all the horse all that stuff so they are more his then mine...
@RPiAwesomeness good job on not maiming yourself...

@TheX Yeah. Like I said, I totally didn't realize those weren't community horses. I took one without armor, if that's any better.
@TheX Thank you :)

@RPiAwesomeness I don't think he would care, but it is better to ask...

@TheX And I will. Next time I get on I'll bring it back over with some form of note/sorry thingy.

@RPiAwesomeness I think for the rare stuff it is just better to ask unless it is in one of the community chest...

Yeah. I mean, he wasn't on and it was just standing around. I'll remember that for the future :(

2:22 AM
You can borrow...
just don't claim it for yourself...
by the way by community chest, I mean all chest are fair game...
so if it isn't in your inventory :-D

Well okay then :)
Are the blaze spawners active in the fortress?

Yeah I think so
um...

Where did you find that cactuses?

I need some blaze rods for a brewing stand and eye of enders
Cactus? o.O

2:24 AM
Yeah didn't you need some to make your baner?
banner
btw there is a brewing stand in the castle

Ah. No :)
That was lapis
You make a banner via 6 wool in the top 6 slots with a stick in the middle of the bottom

oh...i see
by the way nice tower

Just experimenting with them, I figured I'd mess about with them a bit since it's sorta a medieval build thing
Thanks :)
I'm planning on extending it higher eventually, but I ran out of stone bricks 'cause coal :P

Cool
That wasn't our intial plan... it just turned out that way...
our original "home" was a 2x2 wooden "shack" and it just kinda grew into that
all the wood on the bottom is original

lol :)

2:31 AM
it was actually really hilly right there and we leveled it all out...
then we got too close to the village and didn't realize it because we were so consumed by building the castle and all the villagers got killed
That is why the empty village is there

2:44 AM
@TheX Long time no see! What's up?

@Seth sup?
@Seth just playing some minecraft

@TheX Not a whole lot, life's been kind of busy recently but otherwise good.
@TheX Cool!

@Seth I don;t know if it is cool or not, but it is what it is...
@Seth life has been busy here too...

@TheX lol
I know lots of people who play minecraft ;)
Not my cup of tea, although it is a pretty cool game.
@TheX I figured that's why we don't see you around as much. Hopefully that means life is good :)

Oh...I was gonna say if you play you can jump on my server...

2:51 AM
I don't mind the game too much, but I don't really care for it enough to own a copy ;)
Otherwise I would!

@Seth life is good... just quit my job...lol

@TheX Bad boss or something?

@Seth Yeah I am kinda turned off now that it is a M$ product... but oh well...

@TheX I wondered why that was :)

@RPiAwesomeness Better job, more money, better benefiets

2:53 AM
Now it's all abandoned and empty and creepered :)
@TheX Ah :D
That's always good :D

@TheX yeah :/

@TheX Eh. I'm not too upset. Mojang still is developing it, nothing toooo bad has happened yet

@Seth I got my revenge though and put my server on Ubuntu Server lol

@TheX lol
@TheX nice!

@RPiAwesomeness key word, yet...

2:54 AM
Plus. It's a game. Microsoft games are basically the only thing I like about MS, Halo and Minecraft :D
@TheX exactly

@RPiAwesomeness I played halo once when it first came out (back in early 2000), showing my age... never really got into it

lol. It's not bad. I don't own it or anything, just play it with my friends occasionally.
I've never owned a console or portable console or anything other than a PC

I am more of a Nintendo fan...
gasp

I've actually never beat a full story mode thing
Dude. Smash Bros for the Wii U is amazing

lol that is the one series I dislike

2:57 AM
o.O why?
I love Smash Bros
Don't go on The Bridge and say that :D

I don't know why...
to much button mashing for me?

Fair enough :)
It is indeed a button masher game.
It's far superior with a gamecube controller IMO
I actually haven't played any Nintendo game other than Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and Mario Bros much at all.
Again, because I've never had a console :)

I really like The Legend of Zelda...

I've heard those are good

@RPiAwesomeness I guess you can't catch a rabbit with a sword?

3:07 AM
o.O in Minecraft?
I mean...usually you don't catch anything with a sword.
Kinda kills them :D

Thought it was worth a try lol

lol :D
Anyways. I g2g. Good night. I'll return the horse if I have time tomorrow

Yeah I g2g too
wife said good night which I think is her settle way of saying it is time for bed

ByteCommanderI have set up a VPN connection back when I used Unity instead of XFCE as DE for my Ubuntu 14.10. It worked well, but I can't find how I have to connect to it now under XFCE. Is there e.g. a panel plugin like the one in Unity to accomplish this or do I have to use the terminal or other GUI tools?

@ByteCommander The subfolders.
If you want to do it for all subfolders of a directory, try this:
find . -type d -maxdepth 1 | while read dir; do cd $dir; make uninstall; cd ../; done
That assumes you have no spaces or weird characters in your directory names.
You could also just do
for dir in *; do cd $dir; make uninstall; cd ../; done
That will give errors if you have any files (not only directories) but you can ignore them.
Test these by adding an echo before the cd and make commands

for D in *; do [ -d "${D}" ] && my_command; done
I just found that on SO too... ;-)
@terdon Can I tell it to ignore errors of make?
It stops when some error occur...
for D in *; do [ -d "${D}" ] && cd $D && sudo make uninstall && cd .. ; done
I think it has to be the && after uninstall that must be changed.

@ByteCommander Yes. The && means "continue if successful". Just use a normal ;

Oh my freaking gosh the star spam is absurd.
What the frig

@RPiAwesomeness Write better posts and you will see better stars... ;D

@hbdgaf Hey! You stole my nopetopus!
@ByteCommander But...why are they are friggin single stars. That's the worse part. I agree that they are some times funny, but the single stars just ruin the whole point of the star wall
To show what is interesting and useful

Feature request for a single-star filter checkbox?

And they're almost all BSOD pics. Why.
Why is this a thing.
@ByteCommander It'd get shot down like all the rest of those similar requests

4:50 PM
Might be true... :-/

SE's policy is that users have a right to stars...but I really think we should have the ability to block stupid stars that add absolutely zero to the conversation

I also had some pretty useful ones, but when they get out of the first page, nobody ever looks at them again...

@ByteCommander Exactly.
Good posts that get starred for a reason are getting pushed out by the absurd stars of crap that are newer.
And it's exceptionally annoying

But low-star posts disappear after a given time, while posts with high star rates stay in the list longer!

@ByteCommander They do?
But, it doesn't matter. They're still there and by the time they do disappear, more crap stars have taken their place.

5:00 PM
Yes, they do!
I would not have told you if they didn't!

low star posts don't disappear.
The only way for a star to disappear is for newer things to be starred.

@Seth That's what I thought

Hence people get upset when one person stars a bunch of random stuff and no one else stars it (meaning it isn't that interesting to others) and then the really interesting stuff gets pushed off.

@RPiAwesomeness @Seth From the chat.SE FAQ:
> Starred messages appear in the room sidebar, ordered by number of stars and last time of starring. (Room owners can also pin messages, which permanently affixes them to the top of the room sidebar for up to 14 days.) The room sidebar is intended to be a collaboratively created mini-timeline of interesting room events for people who don't have time to read the entire chat transcript for that particular room.

But, that applies to all messages

5:05 PM
So the low-starred posts don't really disappear, but get sorted down...

exactly.
nothing really disappears, they just aren't on the sidebar anymore.

And at least for me with my 1024x786 they disappear!

But that's just it, they aren't getting sorted down. They sort down the multi-starred messages.

right because newer > number of stars.
except when people star random stuff no one cares about..
but the system can't know that.

:P exactly

5:08 PM
So you think we need a bunch of "chat star moderators"?

Sorta.
Or just the ability to negative vote stars

Or we would have to improve the sorting/disappearing from the list-algorithm...

Maybe give images a higher chance of being sorted out.
I can see why they're hesitant to do anything, as it definitely would put more strain on the system and has the potential for abuse.

(and with "we" I mean we have to come up with a good idea and the SE devs have to implement it, but I fear we have to do the ordinary way and fill out a feature-request... :P)

@ByteCommander Not sure why it failed. I'm guessing something there is a link to a directory so cd ../ went to a different place.

5:13 PM
@terdon Don't know, but all direct subdirectories are real folders, no links.
Anyway, the job is done. Thank you for your help!
@RPiAwesomeness Would it be useful to add another type of star?
I mean keep the "star" for interesting/AU-relevant stuff...
... and create a new one (e.g. "Smiley") for funny stuff.
And give stars a higher relevance in the sidebar than smileys or include a checkbox to filter them.
What do you think? Too complicated?

@ByteCommander The SE folks don't care much about chat. The SE sites are about Q&A, the chat is just a side project. I don't think they'll be willing to implement anything like that.

I fear that too...

I think that would be, as everything else is, shot down. It wouldn't be terribly hard to implement though, just basically copy/paste the code for the stars and change the icons a bit.
