so yeah, people just start calling it stuff, then it sticks around.
some scientists are thinking synestasia may have kickstarted language - and that certain sounds are linked to describing the item

user136984
@Nathan: Wait, so is it !# or #!?

user136984
Ok, you're all confusing me today! :D

user139252
Boing!

user139252
So, the only way to message on Telegram is through phone number?

user139252
10:07 PM
I have to give out my phone number if I want to message somebody? D=

user136984
Does really nobody have any idea about this?

Q: How to only allow certain apps to find your geographical location

Paranoid PandaCurrently in the Privacy section of the Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 (GNOME 3.18) System Settings one can only seemingly activate and deactivate the Application Services option globally for all applications, so is there not a way to only activate this for specific applications?

user139252
Oh, wait, nope. Found the username section in settings.

user136984
@Terrance?

user139252
10:09 PM
BING BONG! BING BONG!

user139252
That movie was adorable.

user136984
I didn't actually go to see that, and now I think I won't... :P

I think I'm starting to get into an 'Answer Questions' mood o.o
i'm already starting to gain rep as a result :/

user136984
I prefer this:

user136984

user136984
:D

user139252
@ParanoidPanda I prefer real music.

user136984
@HeatherBrown: How dare you say that this is not real music? >:D

A: Apache as non root

Thomas W.The Short Answer: You cannot make Apache start as non-root for the master process in a sane way. This is because the master process is required to run as superuser in order to bind to port 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS), and to access configuration files so the workers know what they're supposed to ...

Thoughts please

user139252
Helpful, to the point, and accurate.

10:15 PM
A little over-styled but I do that to separate "The Short Answer" and "The Details" and sections
but thanks :)

user136984
@HeatherBrown: Anyway, I know what you mean by 'real music'. :P

user139252
@ParanoidPanda Nope.

user136984
@HeatherBrown: Modest Mouse??? I much prefer Joan Armatrading.

user139252
Modest Mouse is my favorite.

user136984
Is there a Modest Panda? :P

user139252
10:22 PM
No.

user136984
Aww... :(

user136984
:P

user136984
@HeatherBrown: I'll have to start that band then! :D

Tim
@ParanoidPanda Affected as in it will apply to me? Yes. Affected as in I care... not really...
Let me be clear - no, I don't like unnecessary mass surveillance. But the UK is on the highest terror allert there is, and I a) have nothing to hide from the government and b) if I did, they almost certainly don't care
They're not looking for people Googling how to avoid speed cameras, they're trying to find the people making bombs.
And trust me, I really don't want to be blown up while I'm at college. I'm in Cambridge - the city with the top UK university and tbh that is a target - not as much as london but still.
So if the government wants to have access to my searches for how to fix bluescreen windows and minecraft youtube - go right ahead.

user136984
@Tim: That's not necessarily the problem though, this data will become a big target for hackers.

user136984
10:35 PM
And your bank details and everything about you is likely to be in there.

Tim
Just to clarify, afaik they aren't going to be send a daily breakdown to the government, it's just going to be avaliable if they need it.

user136984
And as we've seen from the latest attacks for example on TalkTalk, how much do you trust these companies to store your data?

Tim
@ParanoidPanda I a) don't do online banking b) don't watch porn. If I did the latter, then to be really clear the government doesn't care.

user136984
And what if you think your messages are encrypted and they are not and there is some nasty hacker reading them?

Tim
"To be clear, the authorities would still need a warrant to make service providers store and hand over browser history - eg which specific Facebook pages or tweets had been looked at.
And there are also restrictions on what types of things can be requested without one."

user136984
10:37 PM
I still don't like...

Tim
@ParanoidPanda Again, I have nothing to hide. I trust PlusNet, and if I don't trust them to store my data, I shouldn't trust them to transmit my data.
Essentially.

still requires services to leave data lying around unencrypted somewhere...

user136984
Anyway, goodnight! :)

for the bad guys to more easily get to...

Tim
@Mateo doesn't have to be unencrypted...
My main argument is I have nothing to hide and I don't wanna be blown up

10:38 PM
so how does the goverment see it then?

Tim
And if I can't trust PlusNet (a BT company) to store it, then why would I trust them to be my ISP?
@Mateo the ISP decrypts it - it's not an open book, a warrant is needed
@ParanoidPanda night!

@Zacharee1: yes, you are missing something obvious:
In the middle is an "I'm having this problem too" closure reason...
it's equivalent to my canned comment:
Welcome to Ask Ubuntu! **;-)** We're very sorry, but this is not a good place to put another question as you're *actually answering an old question*, so the only people seeing your "answer" will be the original poster and a bunch of reviewers trying to review your "answer" for quality... So please first look over the existing answers and if none of them work, [ask a new question](http://askubuntu.com/questions/ask) and refer back to this question and explain what went wrong. **;-)**
@Tim Holidays?
;-)

Tim
@Fabby no, just up too late :P
i need to go to sleep half an hour ago so night all!
o/

@ThomasW. upgoated...
@ParanoidPanda Use tox.
(also see quote above: worth starring!)
Damn kids! they go to bed just as it's getting interesting! @ParanoidPanda @Tim ;-)

Q: Why is `du --apparent-size` sometimes off by more than 90%?

Stefan MajewskyI'm working on a software that builds Pacman packages (which basically are tarballs with some special metadata files). The test suite builds some packages, then compares the resulting package to a recorded expected result. One of the fields in the metadata recorded in the package is the installe...

user139252
I haven't gone to bed!

@HeatherBrown I'm going to now however...
Good night!

11:35 PM
@NathanOsman I saw that!

Thanks to Serg :P

Yeah, I saw his deleted one as well :)

@terdon P.S. if the "rm -rf" jokes bother you, I will stop.

@Fabby still no idea
But I do still have this fever so it stands to reason that I can't think

@NathanOsman No, not at all. I take them in the spirit they're intended.

11:36 PM
@terdon Okay, good. Just wanted to be sure.
:)

Plus, I did get a newbie to delete their $HOME. Albeit not by design and despite adding a disclaimer very soon after my bad suggestion. So, I guess I deserve it :)

Nobody deserves to be constantly reminded of past mistakes. So if it ever comes across that way, let me know.

@terdon like the Twitch pranksters and System32

Twitch pranksters?

@terdon there were some people on twitch who managed to fool a broadcaster into deleting the C:\Windows\System32 folder, which rendered their computer unbootable
It took off from there and more people started doing it

11:40 PM
Oh, great.

It was a long time ago

There was a similar poor sap on SU who asked for advice on IRC and was told that running sudo rm -rf /bin /usr/bin was a good way to create a swap partition.

LOL

The original title of the question was "Won't boot after creating a swap partition?"
> It didn’t really seem like it was doing anything, but 10 minutes later it just shut down for no reason.

11:42 PM
sigh

Poor guy

Well time to lie down for a while

@terdon Nice comments and answer on that one btw

@chaskes Well, I had to wait until I stopped laughing first :)
And the comment was directed at some git who was poking fun at the OP. As if the OP didn't have enough problems already. Sheesh!

;)
