11:03 PM
So...google translate api is a paid service. If I wrote an abstraction layer and distributed it I'ld probably get shut-down faster than napster.

11:13 PM
We need an open source translation app.

Oli
@GeorgeEdison Transifex?

The pricing on google translate api is reasonable. We just need a way to enforce the don't be an idiot rule

@Oli: I was thinking more of an app that actually performed the translation.

Well, to launchpad & github then, @GeorgeEdison

The closest thing to a second language I know is Spanish.
And you'll notice that I didn't jump up to translate that post from earlier :P

11:17 PM
people have been asking for a clipboard monitor translation app. there are two problems with writing the app. 1) API used 2) pricing. It would be a recurring cost.

@GeorgeEdison Team. Work. :P

Okay. You start it then.

One guy to do the GUI, one guy to do the logic, crowdsource the translation.
@GeorgeEdison That would require me to actually get involved with github and/or launchpad, though. :(

i could belt it out in a week. the issue isn't just translation. it's detecting when translation is necessary. if people would be responsible you could just use the google-api and be done with it. (sorry our api payment queue is empty...insert quarters needs to be a business model)

I like the "insert quarters" analogy.

11:21 PM
transparency in business. just saying. if they know they're buying the underlying service it doesn't seem so horrible. but griefers would have a field day with throwing loads of data at it.

damnit. not going to make that extra accept today I'm afraid for the 10k. :P

? you need an accept for something ?

@AbrahamVanHelpsing well, I can just wait.

if you're saying you need 20 points post two good answers you think i haven't voted on

@AbrahamVanHelpsing He's rep capped.

11:31 PM
lol

Only accepts will get him further now.
Which is hilarious, cause he's so close.

^ that

Q: Where to put bounty information?

FEichingerSparked by a chat discussion about this question, I think we should think of a way to put some order to bounty information. What information is interesting? Sometimes, one would like to include information as to what is expected from an answer for it to gain a bounty, or state reasons for the b...

@AskUbuntuMeta Ah, you finally woke up? Great!

askubuntumeta needs to burn

11:34 PM
Truth.

@gertvdijk You'll have this bounty in a day: askubuntu.com/questions/247549/…
please fix the line breaks in the question though...it'll take seconds and you're already getting 50 rep

unless they're rep capped.
oh wait nevermind
i'm late ;P

@AbrahamVanHelpsing ah, thanks. :) but by tomorrow someone probably already upvotes something of me. I was just wining about the last 30 minutes of this day.

it's too late now...rep already commited to bounty

@gertvdijk ah hem.

11:41 PM
@Seth I was trying hard today to get there... but no. spilled so many points just losing upgoats desparate for accepts :(

If someone needed motivation:

20 minutes man, 20 minutes.

Q: How can users be prevented from pouring water into coffee machine beans compartment?

sharptoothTypical coffee machines have two user-accessible compartments - one for water and one for coffee beans. Pouring water into the beans compartment kills most machines, the repair costs a fortune. Now here's an improvement (Schaerer Siena-2 if that matters) this machine is permanently connected ...

On UX? o_O

Yep.
That's UX.
In fact, that's what UX was, before computers came around.

UX is much more about physical interaction with objects than it is about where to click what.

Q: How can I deal with a team member who dislikes making comments in code?

Mahbubur R AamanOne of my team member consistently avoids making comments in his code. His code is not self-documenting, and other programmers have a difficult time with understanding his code. I have asked him several times to comment his code, however he just gives excuses or claims that he will do it later...

lol

11:47 PM
who doesn't comment?

what kind of coffee machine can you mistake the beans and water with?

that --^
+1 for "don't complain about missing comments: complain about unreadable code." — Mahbubur R Aaman 17 hours ago
interesting stuff.

@mateo_salta Uh, there are some WMF machines that have milk and water compartments on the same side, which causes all sorts of fun. Could imagine the same for beans and water.
@Seth I usually don't comment on anything deeper than methods.

interestingly they've given an indian coffee maker (which mixes beans and water) as an example of a container that seperates them

@FEichinger shouldn't need too much more.

11:51 PM
@JourneymanGeek Interesting.

@JourneymanGeek that exemplifies a particular business model if you don't mind me saying so...

@Seth Agreed. But I also know people that explain every single tidbit of their code.

if it has to score 10/10 in some lint thing, then fine. just saying

@gertvdijk Mind making your answer on the meta post a little more neutral as another poll-option, rather than an absolute "It's already implemented!"?

@AbrahamVanHelpsing: it turns a problem into a tasty solution of coffee!

11:53 PM
@FEichinger never hurts. shrug

this is my coffee maker

@Seth True, but unnecessary. And annoying in interpreter langs. ;)

true enough.

@FEichinger there you go. but really, why wasn't this the starting point from the question on?

11:56 PM
so i'm in a linux room...does anyone have any ideas on sourcing the raspi say 20 at a time and the lead time of the same? i can get arduino and breakouts at that speed. just a question

buying 20 of them at once?

yes that
i know the limit came off recently, but i was wondering if ordering them for say a classroom increased your lead time

Oh my:

Q: Replace accept rate with citizenship level

Jeff AtwoodI see that accept rate has now been removed from display on questions. I think this is not a great solution for reasons that waffles explained well. Take it away waffles! On one hand accept rate bothers me a lot, it is a one-dimensional metric that does not really give me enough information ab...

@gertvdijk Thankies, looks great now. And, I omitted it because I disagree with it being viable enough. It has serious disadvantages in terms of communication. You can't discuss the bounty, you can't edit the remark to globally indicate a change, it remains in the history only, once done and it can't be detailed beforehand (especially nice if you don't want to waste a large bounty without a pre-existing answer).

@AbrahamVanHelpsing that would be like $700, what is lead time (is that how fast it gets to you)

11:59 PM
@Seth I like the idea, actually. It just seems ... well ... farmable.
