@Seth nice new picture

1:00 AM
is there a theme called "Zorin"?

I will butcher a dog... and no, those are "themes for zorin" :/

I don't think a "technician" wiped ubuntu/windows to mess around installing a zorin theme

@JourneymanGeek askubuntu.com/questions/382697/default-autthentication-password tell me you.. what you think...

@Mateo Oh, thank you :)
It could've been much better though.
At least lighting wise.

btw, my favorite answer to those kind of questions is "If you think our answer rate is bad, get in and help!"
Instead of making it worse lol.

boo... lost 50 rep yesterday UTC :(

I just don't get it.
My add-on was rejected again.
And I still don't understand why... they claim I'm assigning unsanitized data to innerHTML... which I'm not.
The source code is public - I can show anyone that the claim is invalid.

Which add on?

REST Easy.
Of course you won't be able to find it anywhere... since they automatically delete it after review.

Maybe a similar rule they have a canned response to?

Could be.
@Seth: New Gravatar?

@AmithKK You don't recognize Hover!?!?! Heresy!
@NathanOsman Yeep.
About time.

3:00 AM

@NathanOsman Well when you don't use your own face I suppose it never gets old..

I've rarely changed my gravatar

3:02 AM
@AmithKK Ah. Yes then.

@Seth Actually, I am thinking of using my actual face.
I just need to get a really good shot of it :P
@AmithKK ...oh yeah - and I changed it for Oli day.

@NathanOsman That's hard to do lol.
Mine could be so much better.. Maybe I'll get a better one soon.

@Jou okay dear friend
@Jou do u use ubuntu?

Not exactly

3:25 AM
why?

I have 2,3 ubuntu VPSes, one system that runs lubuntu, and a fedora dualboot.
so I guess you can say I use ubuntu in a manner of speaking

@JourneymanGeek is lubuntu made by ubuntu?

not quite
its a officially accepted derivative, but isn't maintained by canonical

which version of ubuntu was last time used by you?

er.......
thinks
9.04, for about 5 minutes

3:27 AM
?

then I got fed up and installed KDE
;p

have you ever used ubuntu 13.10?

nope
not a fan of unity

why?
its is not good?
what is your age?

30
dosen't fit my workflow

3:29 AM
i am 13 :P
is is hard to install ubuntu for a 13 year old?
?
@JOu

age dosen't matter ;p

why?

I'd try to do it on a spare hdd, system or USB key
people can be stupid at any age
6

is lubuntu installation different from that of ubuntu 13.10?
because isntallation of ubuntu is much easoer than debian
?

you're still using a livecd
and the base OS is the same, you just have a different selection of packages

3:33 AM
is unity not there?
?
@jou
@oli

Q: opening shutdown dialog immediately triggers a reboot

voodoogiant~80% of the time when I go to shutdown down my machine from the gear -> "Shutdown ..." menu option, the dialog pops up and then instantly closes and my machine restarts. It's not that big of an issue as I just hold down the power button while bios is loading, but it's a little annoying. After i...

Kevdog777I know that uname -a shows the full machine name and details, etc. But I did uname gcc to see what the version of gcc I am running, and it returned Linux - What does that mean? A: Is it okay to ask for confirmation of a suspected bug?

Thomas W.While I agree with Braiam's answer here, I will make a note: Feature requests and help with bugs are not on topic here on Ask Ubuntu. If you want to ask someone to try and confirm a bug, file the bug on Launchpad, don't ask people here to confirm if a bug exists. Anything bug related is off-to...

;)

@JourneymanGeek meh, don't worry, if I didn't know is because I didn't noticed... so apparently you are doing it well ;)
what is happening with suggested edits...
I'm suspecting this user is spamming askubuntu.com/users/219771/aliceten
recommends "longpathtool" without links...

Oli

Yeah it's a clever way of spamming. Be so vague that Eric comes along and supplies the links!
Their mistake was doing it four times. It helped me find some older spam from 2012.

BraiamToday we found a clever way spammer are trying to prevent falling into the spam protection system... that is recommending software relevant to the question so people in their curiosity search what is that about so they get ads revenue. Q: Is there any packages to manage NIS users?

SavvyI'm using NIS server to control 100 clients, I'm using NIS for centralized authenticaion and NFS to share home folder. The main problem I'm facing is that I cannot find which user is logged in and logged out. Is there any packages to manage users of the NIS client?

If any MSO users would like to contribute to their AU-moderator's inevitable hail of down-votes, feel free to visit: http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/209152/can-we-ask-for-a-reason-when-somebody-down-votes-making-it-a-constructive-proce

It's a feature request to make down-voting more constructive.
You're also allowed to vote for it but I suspect you'll be voting against the lines.

@Oli: sometimes people yell at me when I comment :/

Oli
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I saw that. I wouldn't let one idiot's frustration tar the way to treat others though.

@Oli: happens more often than not
and I try VERY hard to comment to point people in the right direction anyway

Oli
Well if you see a conversation going that way, flag it up as soon as you can.

lol
I had no idea I had pissed off the chap so much to be honest ;p

Oli
@JourneymanGeek They were already upset with Ubuntu before they'd even seen you.
They probably shout at kittens too.

even I like kittens

@Oli askubuntu.com/questions/382943/… he asks about reinstallation of ubuntu in a dual-boot system and also he wants the fresh ubuntu installation.

Oli
@AvinashRaj The process is still identical.

@Oli looked at my meta question? ;)

3:12 PM
@BrunoPereira actually it's google.com/…
and only solution I've found is update everything and hope for the best

@Braiam that also happens with a running system and can be sorted very easily
I will leave it closed since it is preventing the system from booting, but on a live system it does not mean issues
@Braiam turn off power saving features and upgrade your BIOS will work most of the times

I've seen in the posts that I've found that they are more frequent in multicore system... mmm...

@Braiam it happens a lot more on new hardware and old kernel versions
only saw once a sles system that did not want to boot with the same issue, rest happened on running ones and did not prevent usage

Q: should I ask an unanswered question to other stackexchange site

souravcShould I ask a question to other stackexchange sites that is not answered here at Askubuntu? Sometimes it may happen that after asking a question here I found the topic is more suitable in any other site. Then what should be my approach?

@Braiam doesn't crash in chrome :P

@Alvar it's a FF only bug ¬_¬ but the image renders ugly in chrome...

@Braiam well it doesn't crash
it's behaving very strange though..
But I have a really good computer...

@Alvar fill out the form!

omw
who's form is it?

7:54 PM
well the system doesn't completely freeze
it's just VERY slow..

but in the SU chat room we are debugging "why FF behaves like that"

@Braiam it made some strange movement of memory and CPU load..

like ups and downs?

yep
I got an Intel 3570k 3.4 ghz, 4 cores..

we saw that behavior... in windows

7:58 PM
it was at 15% load and then jumped between 20%-40%
very strange
@Braiam all done.
hope this answer is good enough.. not sure what the user wants.. askubuntu.com/a/383065/10698
