12:00 PM
right. i have more posts in review queue for me.

forgot I should have hold out on my last vote now I have to wait 12 hours!

@msPeachy congrats

@jokerdino nothing to review on meta

oh yeah

@msPeachy If you really want to, I suppose you could undo your most recent vote (assuming it's recent enough not to be locked in).

12:01 PM
you can do retagging then ?

/me goes to dinner

@hakermania this is quite short:askubuntu.com/questions/108375/… but don't choose a partition. Or here on the Wiki: help.ubuntu.com/community/…

@jokerdino okay, I can do that, but you have to give me the tag and I'll retag it

This looks promising (for me) @OliveTwist: askubuntu.com/questions/178879/…

@msPeachy hold on

12:03 PM
@EliahKagan that could work

@Takkat when you say 'but don't use partition', you mean what ?

what happened to ??

Finally

@AmithKK wow

@msPeachy Thanks for the help :D

12:05 PM
@jokerdino man tag?

@msPeachy i would give you but i feel terribly bad. i'll do on my own later on
@msPeachy it got retagged to manpage somehow

I should have made an app that notifies me on anything new in the review

@AmithKK do that

It would show an overlay where I can take action on the post

12:06 PM
I hope the API has endpoints for review

@jokerdino what about tag and tagging?

@msPeachy they should be merged i think

@hakermania it only /sda (or /sdb ...) not /sda1 (/sdb1 ...)

4 questions with tag and 9 with tagging

@Takkat Thanks :) And what are the /root and /boot partitions that the answer is referring to?

12:08 PM
do the obvious one first.
muon and guake are obvious.
all you need to do, retag, edit the question and answer if any.
until you get bored

@hakermania usually your root will also be your boot - but some people have a separate boot partition.

@jokerdino muon to muon-package-manager?

@msPeachy the other way.

oh okay

@Takkat my root partition is the one installed first after a clean install? Or where the grub is?

12:09 PM
wait.
choose the bigger tag as target
so, it is actually muon-package-manager

@hakermania the partition you boot from is marked with an asterix (on sudo fdisk -l), the partition the GRUB files are on is likely your Linux partition.

and i should retag it to just muon, right?

Do 'proposed' packages include the 'Ubuntu Accomplishments' instalment? General question for you all -.-

@msPeachy one sec. retag to the muon-package-manager
coz it has 6 questions while muon has 3

okay got it

12:11 PM
Great answer: How do I create a translations team? http://askubuntu.com/a/196608?atw=1 #internationalization

Hello @jrg

@hakermania: people recommend Boot Repair. I haven't used it myself. help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair

why isn't there a retag button?

@msPeachy You're not 10k

oh okay

12:13 PM
@Takkat as root is defined the partition where grub is installed? Because if this is the case, then the boot and root partitions are different in my case (boot = windows, root=linux)

i have a retag button ;)

I am flagging my own questions. Sigh

jrg
@msPeachy it's a 10K thing.™
6

@msPeachy try to edit the question and answer if you need to.
in other words, burn more time

@jrg Hahaha. Not that I'm 10K but I liked the ™. XD

12:14 PM
@Mochan problem solved?

@OliveTwist Nope. Flagging as a duplicate. askubuntu.com/questions/196985/dependencies-not-met-on-12-04

@jokerdino okay done

@hakermania root = Linux. Windows boot partition is irrelevant. It's the drive MBR not the partition GRUB installs. That's why you shouldn't put it in a partition (used by Windows in your case). Drive and partition are not the same.

:(

but then muon should just be removed

12:16 PM
@msPeachy it will go away after 24 hours

@OliveTwist I'm seriously considering just living with it till 12.10 comes out and just doing a fresh install, backing up my crap (are we allowed to swear minor-ally here?) and just giving up. Great attitude, I know. But seriously. I can't be ... you get the idea.
@Takkat +1

@Mochan i would like to reinstall every month or so

@jokerdino okay, what is wrong with "tweaking" tag?

@jokerdino sounds like me

@jokerdino Hahaha, seriously? Damn.

12:17 PM
@msPeachy should be retagged to customization i think
@Mochan it cuts the bugs down
especially on a devel release ;)

@hakermania you likely boot from the drive (e.g. /sda NTFS) where Windows is on. Linux root is on another drive (e.g. /sdb ext4). Grub MBR needs to bee on the boot drive (e.g. /sda).

@OliveTwist i haven't done it. just that i would like to

jrg
@Mochan yeah, that's my plan. I'm doing a clean reinstall of 12.10 on top of my 12.10 box, and i'll probably take that opportunity to jump ship from unity to XFCE or something...

@jokerdino True story. If only I weren't so lazy. Not a great habit for an Ubuntu-user apparently -.-

jrg
@OliveTwist highfive for not being able to have a Ubuntu install last longer than 90 days! Join the "less than 90 day club"!

12:18 PM
@Mochan downloading and making a live usb is so much easy honestly

@jrg Wow, really? I have been to scared to try XFCE or KDE. I'm such a noob

lol scared to move away from Unity?

what about custom-distributions and custom-installer?

@msPeachy you done tweaking already?

@Takkat sorry for being probably annoying for my ignorance, but, depending on the answer you told me to look at, (askubuntu.com/questions/108375/…), root = Linux and boot = /dev/sda ? And, (because I am triple-booting with BackTrack, Ubuntu & Windows), as root I should take the linux where the grub loads from?

jrg
12:19 PM
@Mochan i'm a noob when it comes to a lot of things. so don't fee bad.

@jokerdino What, so you can re-install frequently? Or just living off the thing? hell no

@jokerdino nope
got into it when I searched tweaking
okay, will work on tweaking now boss

jrg
@hakermania Y U INSTALL BACKTRACK TO METAL? You're supposed to run it off a VM or LiveCD - bare metal installs are so dangerous. shudder

@jrg Haha. I'm noob at most things, but I'm young and inexperienced (feels like I'm suggesting perverted things...)

@msPeachy hm they are different actually.

12:19 PM
@Takkat as for linux, their partitions are on sda1 and 6 and a swap at 5

@jokerdino Yes. -sadface-

@msPeachy no no. i was just wondering if you are super fast
@Mochan i use devel release

@jrg Oh.. yeah. none of my Ubuntu installation last longer than 90 days

@jrg backtrack has nothing to do with the problem I have

@jokerdino Care to explain? -noob- :((

12:20 PM
@Mochan i use 12.10

@jokerdino OH. Right. =.=

jrg
@hakermania actually, it does. triple boots cause all problems with MBR and grubs.

@Mochan it isn't that hard. just install the -desktop package and you are good to go

jrg
@OliveTwist Join da club.

@jrg er, at one point of time, i had about 5 boots. o.O

12:21 PM
@hakermania yeah that looks good. Where is Windows? Here's some more information: help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2?action=show&redirect=GRUB2

I've gotta run. talk to you later guys, don't kill any kittens.

cya!

@Takkat windows is on 2

jrg
@jokerdino if you do 5 boots, i want to shake your hand.

12:21 PM
@jrg Never had a problem. An installation which altered the windows registry caused the problem

@jrg I did. Just purged them all last week.

@jokerdino I now have 2..3..4..5....6 boots now

@hakermania in case you have one drive only it's easy. GRUB MBR can only be on /sda then.

@jokerdino Haha. I would rather have a permanent OS on my PC that just works. I may as well install OS X (HELL NO) but I love Ubuntu. Perhaps what your suggestion is quite reasonable...

windows 7, debian, fedora, ubuntu 12.10 and 12.04
@OliveTwist wait what?

12:22 PM
@jrg Oops

@Mochan Just to clarify, what I say is not reasonable.

@jokerdino Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 because I'm just noob like that -.-

windows 7, edubuntu 12.04, ubuntu 12.10, mageia 2, Mint 13, ubuntustudio 12.04

I talk insane.
@Mochan You installed Ubuntu. You are not noob.
@OliveTwist omgbbq

@jokerdino Oh yeah. I'm not great with English... but yeah. I mean reasonable to a lazy user?? XD

jrg
12:23 PM
Forget talking insane, I am insane.
2

@Mochan But you live Down Under.

@Mochan +1 for not being great with English

And, really. I don't really talk a lot of sense or logic.

@jokerdino Doesn't mean I'm full Australian

I just blabber

12:24 PM
@OliveTwist You know it

@Mochan oh

@jokerdino It's not really an excuse. I just have a hard time expressing... computer-related things. Other than that... I'm like... 1/8 Korean -.-

@hakermania: askubuntu.com/questions/88384/… may be better

안녕하세요.

I know how Aussies wonder how people can be multilingual while they are barely good at one language ;)
{joke}

12:26 PM
-not amused-
Sorry. That was mean.

@Mochan Hello

(my post) <--- example of troubles

I am writing and writing and writing an answer.
Still barely done.

BBL

@jokerdino all tweaking including closed ones?

12:28 PM
@msPeachy I guess.
If a post is locked, flag it for mod to remove it

I'm actually not bad at English. I don't really know Korean that well, because English is my Mother tongue. But I... blabber... and say nonsensical things =3=

@Mochan blingo

@jokerdino what of those about Ubuntu Tweak and swap tweaking something

@jokerdino +1

@msPeachy what
ubuntu-tweak is a configuration tool
swap tweaking, not sure

12:30 PM
lol. no swap tweaking is not tag, but the question is about ram and swap

-Not fit for discussion-

throw away tweaking then.

@jokerdino But tweaking is fun ;A;

@Mochan :P

Title reads: Mysterious RAM and SWAP usage

12:31 PM
Hi guys back

Says the girl (you heard right... -.-) who messed up her OS by doing so (Windows _ Ubuntu together). Skills.
@smartboyhw wb

@Mochan thx

@Takkat You won't believe it, but I was trying to write you something here while the boot repair utility was being installed and its window pop-uped while I was typing very fast and I pressed something random and it begun to repair my grub and it worked just fine! I am now talking from my Hard Drive :D
thanks a lot!

Hi @hakermania btw

Hi @smartboyhw

12:32 PM
@msPeachy edited

@hakermania Damn! Lucky! Like a boss, dude

@Mochan Like the luckiest ba@st*rd of all time :P

@hakermania Hell yesssss

MY POST WAS STARRED?! WHY?! O_O

12:34 PM
@Mochan starring a post just means that it is good

Hah, now it has 3

I just did.

/me starred it

12:34 PM
I was the fourth one.

@hakermania It wasn't good though :S [It's not really an excuse. I just have a hard time expressing... computer-related things. Other than that... I'm like... 1/8 Korean -.-]

@smartboyhw DO IT! I DARE YOU OuO

@Mochan lol

@hakermania Good luck bro!

dino, what about this? askubuntu.com/questions/52508/…

12:36 PM
@Mochan if you solved your problem, give me a ping

@OliveTwist Will do. Doubt it though. I think I'm going to fry my PC before I do

@msPeachy sometimes, you can just remove the tag.

I really wanted to see how this problem get solved.

@OliveTwist ...

but it is your choice

12:37 PM
FINE! I'LL TRY MY VERY BEST ! -tears of fake bravery and noobiness-

frying is not a bad idea

@OliveTwist For eggs.
You guys are quick typers... //dies

@Mochan Don't die

jokerdino is the fastest
but Eliah like typing long strings ;P

@EliahKagan I have expanded the answer. Is that alright now? :)
@OliveTwist I am not.
@OliveTwist That I agree.

12:40 PM
@smartboyhw =Your condolences has been passed on the corpse

@Mochan Oh lol

@OliveTwist Lol. Never directly talked too Eliah... too scared. Not because Eliah's personality or whatever... but Eliah is too not-nooby :S
@smartboyhw XD

I am TEH noob

@jokerdino done with tweaking.
minimize has 16 while minimizing has 8, which should be retag?

@Mochan nooby means?

12:42 PM
@msPeachy the smaller one goes to bigger one

@jokerdino When you spell the like that, yes. But overall, with like 89 reputation, I take the cake.
@OliveTwist Ssh! I invented the word. It means n00b-like.
XD

@jokerdino I like that answer very much. (And I'll be able to upvote it, in 11 hours.)

@EliahKagan lol
hi @EliahKagan

@EliahKagan Oh alrightie. Thanks much for approval.
@Mochan I want the cake.

Hello @EliahKagan ^^

12:43 PM
@OliveTwist Hi.

@Mochan was talking you are not much free with him
;P

@jokerdino TOO BAD! MY CAKE! >:D

Noooo~OO~O

@jokerdino Actually, I think there may be one error. reportbug is not installed on my 11.10 machine, which has ubuntu-desktop and lubuntu-desktop installed.

@OliveTwist Much free? Sorry what?
Fails to understand/

12:44 PM
@EliahKagan So I am wrong after all. Thank goodness I added a small disclaimer before that.
> This utility is installed on all Ubuntu systems as well.
That got me confused o.O
i have the package installed and am wondering if it was part of ubuntu-dev-tools

17.4k. I am jealous, jokerdino

@Mochan That's the SE network rep.

@jokerdino ?

I like the association bonus. So I sign up everywhere. :D

12:46 PM
@jokerdino =3=

I mean, it is more than what I have in any single site.

@jokerdino Yes, it is. Simulating installation of ubuntu-dev-tools on my Oneiric box shows reportbug as a dependency that is installed.

@jokerdino :D

@jokerdino Ah. Right.

@EliahKagan I see. I'll fix it in a moment.

12:48 PM
I'm going to be annoying and say it. I'm gonna. I'm bored. Gasp. I've let off something irritating.
^---- The post, I mean. -.-

o.O
If you don't come once every month, we would be fine :P

Daylight Savings for Australia is starting soon. Crying.
@jokerdino =.= Smart. You are.

@EliahKagan Thank you. Fixed the erratum.
@Mochan I.. what?

@jokerdino Kisses? :\

No

=//= Pucker? I use irregular emoticons

You use Eastern emoticons.
I use the western ones.

Genius. One does not simply use the internet without using a single emoticon.

12:58 PM
I'll be doing upgrading my RAM (both internel and externel) today

good sir

@jokerdino you did sign up for every site?

meh

you only have 16 other

i have 17 accounts? woah

1:01 PM
Hello everyone !!!

I have 41

1:03 PM
lol....is this takkat ?

@Prasad yeah he is hiding from you

startup-applications to autostart?

@jokerdino he he heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

the other way maybe?
@msPeachy that one should be mod remapped actually

hello @hakermania :)

1:05 PM
autostart has 91, while startup-applications has 46
there's also just startup

@Mochan It runs very well :) I still cannot believe that I solved all the issues like this
@Prasad Hi there!

@msPeachy yeah. i'll get one of the mods to do it.
startup is different.

yes i see
what about automatic?

o.O

there are 25 with automatic

1:07 PM
@msPeachy i'll take care of that

hi prasad, maybe he's on hibernate mode?

@msPeachy (on volume level .1) yeah :D

hey @Prasad

@smartboyhw hi...
I can't open dash....it freezes....did reset unity....deleted home....but no improvement...why is that?... :(
/mute :D

This question should instead be a bug report in 12.10, so we should close it as off-topic:

Q: Login not working after upgrade to 12.10

JeremyI just upgraded to 12.10 from 12.04, and now my login isn't working. When I log in with the incorrect password, it tells me that it's wrong, but when I log in with the correct password, it just brings be me back to the login screen.

Q: Two Gnome Panels, one on each screen - want panel on bottom

AlfFirst, I tried searching for this issue, but no question is similar. I have two screens - stacked as per screenshot below. 12.04 Classic stupidly puts a panel on each screen. This is unsatisfactory. Doesn't anyone do any testing with multiple screens? (quite common nowadays - top one is a moni...

@penreturn Hi.

@hakermania glad you got is sorted out. Does AutoCAD still work?

Should this be duped to a more general master question about installing drivers in Ubuntu?

Q: How to download specific ubuntu drivers for my pc

GudduI am using hp sg3650il desktop pc.I am new to linux so all i want to know that how to download specific drivers for my pc.

The Linux kernel ships with drivers for most consumer hardware, so unless you have something rather unusual, your machine should run Ubuntu out of the box. – George Edison

1:39 PM
@penreturn The quote of the day eh?

yeahhh :D for @EliahKagan i found askubuntu.com/questions/15317/…

@penreturn lol a graphic card indeed is rather unusual. ;)

:D

@penreturn I don't think that should be the master, as it's quite specific (while at the same time not all that precise about what is being asked). I could imagine closing that as a duplicate of this, though.

@EliahKagan +1 niceee

Q: Why am I asked for a password after automatic login?

Fabioamd87 Possible Duplicate: Keyring On Startup popup I use automatic login because I don't want to enter a password every time I start the system. Although automatic login works, I'm still asked for my password after the desktop is loaded (I need to enter it three times). How can I fix this?

Closed -> closed -> closed -- > closed

@penreturn As you seem to agree, I've close-voted.

im going to provide some screenshot for kamil

@EliahKagan not so sure if a general/conincal driver question will work. Proprietary drivers usually are specific to one of hardwares. A generic question would then have to be a huge list...

shoud i edit or make new answer?

@penreturn Which answer are you considering editing?

1:50 PM
1
A: How to download specific ubuntu drivers for my pc

kamilLet Ubuntu decide: Select "System," "Administration," "Hardware Drivers." Click "Enable" to set your selected drivers to use and to include them in future system updates. Select "System," "Administration," "Update Manager" to scan your system for available software and hardware updates. Alte...

@penreturn If the main change you'd make is to add the screenshot, I'd recommend editing.

@penreturn Edit would be a nice gesture. Don't forget to delete the Hardware update we are supposed to get from update manager ;)

i think the answer base on gnome classic... theres no system>administration on unity... please somebody edit the asnwer... ill provide the img since my english not very good :D

@penreturn I recommend keeping System > Administration (after all, people use GNOME Fallback / Classic), but adding information about how to do it in Unity.

yup just add For Unity ....
im not edit that answer... just provide screenshot

1:54 PM
@penreturn If you do the edit, I'll read through it and if I think the English can be improved, I will edit it again. That might be the most efficient way to do this, since you seem to have a clear idea in your head about what should be added and changed where. (Plus, then you get credit for your contributions, in the editing history.)

orite sir

However, if you'd prefer not to edit the answer yourself, that's OK. (In that case, I'll eventually get around to editing it. ;) )

@penreturn: go for Copy Editor!

ahhahha okey check... i donno what else to tell :D
