@JorgeCastro We need to look into a cleanup of old and bad questions

How can we verify whether the Ubuntu is inside Windows or outside it? http://askubuntu.com/questions/75949/how-can-we-verify-whether-the-ubuntu-is-inside-windows-or-outside-it #wubi

you cant :P

wubi is so tightly integrated that it gives no indication thats what it is? that seems obtuse...

3:01 AM
@QuestionsFeed see inside windows CONTROL PANEL it would show an entry of ubuntu if installed inside windows

3:13 AM
Hello all :)
WHAAAAATT? Who haz got 8 stars!
Clearly, @Explorer is the next marcoceppi

3:25 AM
@GeorgeEdison When will flacky come back ??

@AmithKK I'm working on him now :P

@GeorgeEdison Do you plan to implement those features?

@AmithKK Yup.
You can help if you want - the "brains" are being written in Python.

@GeorgeEdison Im not too into programming. :) But can i see you code?

There isn't much so far, but it's all here: code.launchpad.net/flackbot

3:40 AM
ah, so you are using bzr?

Yes.
I use nothing else :)

O.o When i logged in StumbleUpon with facebook, sonicfanforlife became s forlife
Which could be intepreted in other ways

4:03 AM
bazaar looks awesome. I just didnt want to be tied to launchpad for my work projects :|
so i fell in love with git. and git loves me back

Wordnet - horribly complicated to work with, but once you get the hang of it... pure awesome.

WordNet is a lexical database for the English language.[1] It groups English words into sets of synonyms called synsets, provides short, general definitions, and records the various semantic relations between these synonym sets.
that is cool
ok i'm off ot xbox for the rest of my night before i pass out
g'night

good night @lazyPower

@GeorgeEdison you still there?

My bot is around at #2buntu, if you want to see some reference :)

Preview of FlackBot "2.0":

@GeorgeEdison Yes! YESS!!!!! It lives!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heh, when it goes on, can i be the bot's "alternate-owner"
So, i really didnt get how you post to se chat?

@AmithKK The owner?
It's going to be running as two separate processes on a remote server.

@GeorgeEdison two? why?

The two processes are the Python "brains" which communicates (via network sockets) with the Qt app that interfaces with the chat website.

@GeorgeEdison I understand the "brains" but i never understood how it actually posts.

6:48 AM
@AmithKK That part remains a secret :)

There is one more logical use for that

(And for good reason... we don't want people abusing chat.)

You know the "AU-Clasroom" ?

Yeah.

If you can somehow interface with the irc room and the actual questions about the class on se.
like this:
xdeff(on irc #ubuntu-classroom):!ask How does linking work?
<the bot sees it>
<in SE Chat>
<syncbot> question by xdeff: How does linking work?
<answerer> @syncbot it works by using symlinks
<syncbot listens>
<to irc>
syncbot: xdeff: <answerer>: it works by using symlinks>

6:52 AM
Hmmm... that'd be neat.

Ok, back to Congruency of triangles.

Speaking of Apple patents:

lol
@GeorgeEdison would you mind implementing that idea somewhen in the fututre?

Possibly.

yays!
more AU users!
ever since @jrg introduced me to irccloud, I'm really intrested in cool bots :)

Q: Is it possible to have a different background for each workspace?

Alvarwhen I use different workspaces I normally have a music workspace, a main workspace (where I need to focus), and a workspace that makes me feel good (xkcd etc). So is it possible to have a different background image for each workspace?

Hello.

hi

Hey @OctavianDamiean Back from UDS?

I wasn't there in person but yes. Now I'm in development mode.

@OctavianDamiean I have a favour to ask of you.

Let's see.

10:01 AM
i have a query.
If i run this command echo "$(wc -l) / $(ls | wc -l)"
i get this output. 44 / 89
how to make it a percentage?

@OctavianDamiean can you create a simple 2buntu app for the android?

Uhm, no sorry.

k, no probs :)

I have absolutely no time for that.
Also since 2buntu is in fact a blog you should simply use the mobile plugin of WP.

@OctavianDamiean I got the pro version
I just want it on the app screen

10:08 AM
Make a shortcut to the website and you have it on the screen. ;)

how does the bc command supposed to work? @>@

bc is a language that supports arbitrary precision numbers with interactive execution of statements. There are some similarities in the syntax to the C programming language. A standard math library is available by command line option. If requested, the math library is defined before processing any files. bc starts by processing code from all the files listed on the command line in the order listed. After all files have been processed, bc reads from the standard input. All code is executed as it is read. (If a file contains a command to halt the processor, bc will never read from the standard input.) This version of bc contains several extensions beyond traditional bc implementations and the POSIX draft standard. Command line options can cause these extensions to print a warning or to be rejected. This document describes the language accepted by this processor.

How can i make xsane auto scan and save the pictures appending +1 each time i.e: out1.jpeg out2.jpeg

i am not sure about piping data
given my case, how can i use bc to get the desired output?

You should probably ask a question on Unix and Linux or try to find an answer there.

Hi @ErenTantekin

i have a question
for you guys

cool

4:58 PM
shoot

shoot

i modified the GTK3 source code
compiled it
to add a feature
it now works for gedit etc
but not for gnome-terminal and pidgin
what is different with these two

...
sorry not my area...

Phew! That is something I can't help with but it sounds like a good question for Ask Ubuntu.

bring all the facts

5:01 PM
@OctavianDamiean He asked it already.

and if you could paste the source code in paste.ubuntu.com so people can help you easier...

> 1983: Steve hired Pepsi president John Scully. The hiring was an important moment in Apple’s history, as the same John Scully would later go on to fire Jobs from his own company. When Scully was reluctant to join Apple, Jobs won him over with this iconic question: “Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water, or do you want to change the world?”

@AmithKK yes?
@AmithKK that's history everyone should know

yeah i already did
noone replied yet

link it to here

5:03 PM
@ErenTantekin You should ask it on Ask Ubuntu not on Stack Overflow.

@ErenTantekin offer a bounty if you can?! or offer it if you are desperate...

i asked it on ask ubuntu

@OctavianDamiean merge it?!
@ErenTantekin link it in the chat
paste the link..

Indeed.

Q: Gnome-terminal and Pidgin not affected by change in GTK3 source code

Eren TantekinI needed to change the mouse wheel scroll rate in GTK applications. I downloaded and modified GTK3 source code. I recompiled it. It did the trick for gedit and nautilus. But did not do it for gnome-terminal and pidgin. Why not? Are these apps using GTK2? I would understand Pidgin but gnome-termi...

As far as I know Pidgin is a GTK2 application.

comment that

hmm
what about gnome-terminal
gnome-terminal has to be gtk3

work with the question so that others can be helped as well
not just you...

5:08 PM
libgtk-3-0 (>= 3.0.0)
so its gtk3 ?

Seems gnome-terminal is a GTK3 application on Oneiric.

yeah i am on oneiric
thats weird

This is probably the moment where you should post your souce code changes in the question.
Just edit them in so the people that have more clue can take a look.

yeah okay i will
you mean the changes i made
to the source?

But only the changes.
Yup.

5:09 PM
add 11.10 as a tag
I couldn't
I had to mess up the whole question (edit everything)

somehow i cant create a code block
it says i need to add four spaces
well i cant manually do that for every single line
i dont get it

hiya!

@ErenTantekin Paste it in, then select the entire block and then hit Ctrl + K.

thanks
that worked
whatever i just want this to work in pidgin
i don't have to use gnome terminal

I just came up with the best metafor for a comparasent between mac, windows and ubuntu

Hello @MarcoCeppi. :)

@Alvar what is it

it's too long to type in here...

:D
hahaha

5:29 PM
I guess I'll make it a discussion in meta
if it's ok?

yeah okay

@Alvar Why?!

@OctavianDamiean too long to post here and I guess it's also quite true...

It is not any better on Meta either.

or I jsut make a paste of it...

5:31 PM
It is a topic for a forum or a blog post.

true
I'll just make a quick paste.ubuntu on it xD
talking care of the dishes is boring! :P

sudo apt-get source libgtk2.0-0
is this right
for gtk3 it was: libgtk-3-0
whty the incosistency
what the hell
it doesnt compile
gtkquery.h:31:2: error: #error "gtkfilechooserprivate.h is not supported API for general use"

hehe here we go! ;)

there is an error in the source code of gtk2 which i downloaded from the repositories?!?!?

@OctavianDamiean yeah I know that was a stupid idea...

5:40 PM
seriously im sick of all these
im getting a macbook air

my paste is quite seriously done...

macosx
a grown up?
seriously

yeah :P
you can do a lot but not everything...
Ubuntu has no limitations but it has a lot of bugs...

not just bugs it also has lack of features
you have to add them yourself
to the source directly

that's kind of my point...

5:43 PM
which im doing right now

Ubuntu can change everything in mac os x you just can't...

yeah thats right i guess

o yeah

im gonna ask this on stackoverflow too
can i merge them

@ErenTantekin not wise...

5:45 PM
why not

@ErenTantekin both to askbuntu yes...

@ErenTantekin No! Don't ask the same question on another site.
Especially if it is off-topic there.

@ErenTantekin it's a question regarding Ubuntu...
offer a bounty in a couple of days...
give it some time

why would it be off topic? i'm not gonna tag it with php or mysql
im gonna tag it with gnome gtk ubuntu etc

@ErenTantekin that's off topic

5:46 PM
i have no reputation
cant offer a boutny

does anyone know a stackoverflow mod?
@ErenTantekin then work on more rep! ;)

haha yeah
anyway something even weirder happened
gtk2 source code from the repositories do not compile

does know a lot of Stack Overflow mods and does also know a LOT about how Stack Overflow works

it has an error

Seriously don't ask it there and give it some time.

5:48 PM
yeah i wont

@OctavianDamiean good, warn them if he had posted the question :P
brb
cya all :P

Q: GTK2 source code from repositories has an error and does not compile

Eren TantekinHow is this possible?
