I thought on code review they would address issues at the code level, rather than suggest an alternative approach altogether. I might be wrong though.

It does seem to be a good deal for students / hobbyists / tinkerers, as it basically gives them Plus for free (except with more onerous activation requirements than before). It's not so good for mid-size studios that need Pro, since it's only gotten more expensive once their game is released, without any compensating upside. And the uncertainties around the engine may make it harder to secure publishing/distribution partners.
