Comes with the latitude I suppose. Same things happened last year, but this time it's a bit harsher. Blizzard was proceeded by a fair amount of rain. It's so early most of our trees haven't dropped leaves. What the last couple storms failed to take out are now covered in wet snow & ice. Already had 2 limbs drop in the yard. At least one of them will need to be cut up before I can get it out.

The snow is suppose to convert to freezing rain later & then back to snow. That's gonna suck.

Urban visibility seems okay, but DOT reports from outside are basically "don't drive".

Still, I think I'd rather deal with blizzards than hurricanes, earthquakes or fires.

I feel bad for our trees though. We lost our apple tree a few years ago. And we had another that we tried to move when we reno'd (it was too close to the house anyway) & I don't know if it'll make it through the winter this time.

I feel very fortunate that we landed somewhere with large established trees, but the don't live forever :(

I suspect we'll be putting in a few replacements next spring.

@bruglesco Yeah. It's super rare for gas to go out. Not sure it's ever happened here in my life time. As long as you can make heat, you can always hunker down, wait it out & watch the elements do their thing.

Assuming that one's earlier attempt to shovel sopping wet snow & leaves didn't send one into cardiac arrest.

Although I did have my furnace go down for a few days a couple winters back

Well that's good at least. We have hydronic. If our boiler went out, we'd also have to worry about freezing lines rupturing. They have a % of anti-freeze in them, but I don't know how low they can go before phase change.

They clipped one of the heat lines when they cut in a new window. Was a hassle to get it dealt with. I imagine dealing with damaged lines you couldn't see would worse.

yes ours is a hot water boiler with radiators. There is anti-freeze in the line. The problem was a bad thermostat so the fix was pretty easy.

@Pikalek ohh yeah. I had a pipe burst inside a wall one time. Two winters ago when it got down to -20F. It was awful. Had to cut a hole in the wall.

I tried to call a plumber for that one but they were all very booked because the cold was so bad I was far from the only person with that problem.

Yeah. If one place has been pushed out of spec, chances are others may have done the same.

I think my foraging team has returned home - need to go fix 'em some lunch.
