Hello
Anyone lurking?

/me raises hand

Oh goodie
Thought i was alone for a second

:)
It's stat holiday tomorrow here, so no usual Sunday-night-get-stuff-ready-for-the-week rush tonight :)

Whatcha up to?
Awesome. I finished up this School semester up Friday, so now instead of preparing for school, i get to use sound mode on a game and listen to it's sound track

Working! Banking a few hours. That's the thing I can do on the computer while not really thinking about it (with what I'm doing now).
What is "sound mode"?
And cool for your end-of-semester! What will you do during the summer?

1:38 AM
As in you get to pick a song in the game and play it from main menu

Ah, ok, cool!

Cause well, i am seeking some inspiring music. It helps me to generate ideas for my own game project.
Like imaging scenarios that fit the song, then adding that to game.

Does the fact that it comes from a particular game that you've played influence the scenario?

Sometimes. All depends really... almost like shower thoughts, man.
Of course, most games i play have similarities to my own project, genre- wise

Ah, ok, then I guess it's not that important if there are similarities...

1:47 AM
I am not stealing characters or whatever, just drawing inspiration.
As in "I like what they did, so i am gonna do something of a similar style"
"But not the same"
@AlexandreVaillancourt

@bruglesco It's GitHub Desktop on OSX with VSCode

@TheMattbat999 Yeah, that's what I understood, no worries :)
In every RPG you have a go-fetch-me-that-thing-guarded-by-that-not-cool-entity quest :)
@Almo That looks like asking for trouble :P

2:02 AM
:D

But at least, OSX is a unix system so it *should* work 'ok'. I had issues with big repositories on Windows.

2:15 AM
interesting
I doubt this is "big" though :)

No, and you'd be fine with it. Can you switch to the 'normal' git client?

2:30 AM
I can't because I don't know how git works
I need a GUI
personally, I frickin hate git. but jon uses git, so that's what I have to work with
wish he'd just use a P4 server :/

Oh; yeah, ok.
Did you try the classic "copy your files, delete everything, checkout again and paste your changed files"?

I haven't, because I was trusting git to know what I changed and I don't know what's changed
I guess I could make another copy of MASTER and do a diff
yeah I'll try that
but what's weird is I can add an image in one folder, and git sees it. I add an image in another folder, and it doesn't see it.
so there's something weird going on

I agree.
Good night!

2:50 AM
@AlexandreVaillancourt good night :)

3:24 AM
@AlexandreVaillancourt good. feels Kanomi, Bethesda and From Software breathing down my neck

Konami?

Hello people :)
What game engine/framework/development tools would you advise to develop a grid-based tactical rpg ?
(2D)

4:39 PM
@021 I'm currently making a gross based 2D tactical strategy game in SFML
Grr autocorrect. Gridbased

021
5:12 PM
Oh, interesting
What language do you use ?
You coded the grid handling yourself right ?
@bruglesco

5:29 PM
C++
@021 what do you mean? I have the grid. I haven't implement battle yet. Right now it is non-interactive visuals.
Most of the logic will be trivial. Connecting it all together in a readable, expressive, easily extendable, easily debuggable manner is the hard part.

6:05 PM
Ok I understand
Would you recommend SFML ?
@bruglesco
Anyway thank you for your insights, good luck developing your game :)

6:27 PM
@021 Very much so. It is very well developed. It has an active community. It has been around awhile so finding solutions to existing problems is easy.

Understood, thank you :)
