12:17 AM
I'm sitting in the dark on a rocking chair...

1:00 AM
I'm no longer sitting in the dark on a rocking chair...

Kay
@AlexandreVaillancourt standing in the dark now ?

Hahaha :P
Nah, I'm done with the dark until I'm off to bed.

1 hour later…
2:28 AM
@Kay In fact, I'm thinking about how I would simulate the terrain of open pit mine/quarry that would evolve as trucks dig.

2:45 AM
@AlexandreVaillancourt I prefer the dark

@bruglesco Is there a reason for that?

I have excellent night vision?
I hide from sunlight in fear of being burnt?
I'm just really moody?

Hehe :P
Darkness has it's purpose :) I can associate it with good things!

Ohh and before I had kids I was a night owl
I generally went to bed at sunrise

But I don't like using the computer or TV in the dark

2:49 AM
yeah it causes eyestrain

Ah, yeah, I know that. I did that when I was in college :P
And I agree, things change when you have kids.

thats an understatement

I have a couple of friends who kept doing their things after they got a kid. And after two you years, the guy told me, looking a bit desperate "welp... it seems that this little guy needs a routine, after all..."

3:04 AM
haha I thought the story was gonna get way worse.
Like he guy told me, looking a bit desperate "welp... The wife is leaving me and taking the kids and now I'm gonna go to the bar"
(You're version was better (read: happier))

Hehe maybe in that case it would have been "and I'm going back to the bar, where I usually am".

@AlexandreVaillancourt yup. much more consistent.

That's an issue when the wife is also often found at that bar...
"Kid's in the car, my cell phone is there with him, so we'll hear him when he starts to cry."

"welp... Child Services took the kids so the wife and I are going back to the bar."

"We'll show them how bad we can be at parenthood, those bastards" :P
3
It's unfortunate to think that it's probably a true story.

3:16 AM
@AlexandreVaillancourt I used to work at a bar. A police officer came in and told a woman she had to come with him. She didn't understand why it wasn't okay to be drinking at the bar with an infant in her car. After all she cracked the windows.
ohh far too many true stories like that unfortunately

@bruglesco eeeeek :/

7 hours later…
10:21 AM
I just found out my laptop's monitor is 120hz
what the actual fu..

1 hour later…
11:33 AM
Anyone on?
  public Spaces(int a,String b,String c){//Constuctor for Dinos.
    String ds= "d" + a;
    Dino ds = new Dino(a,b,c);
  }
Consider that I want to make instatiate d1,d2,d3,d4,d5.
Why won't it instatiate it?

user92578
uuh that doesnt really make sense

user92578
what do you mean by "why wont it instantiate it?"

user92578
also you have two variables named "ds"

I want to create class named d1,d2

user92578
named?

11:44 AM
yeah all the dinos are subclasses of spaces class which the constructor is located in

user92578
so what are you actually trying to do

user92578
i still have zero idea what you want to accomplish

from the constructor create classes named d1,d2,d3,d4 so what I am doing is using the interger from the superclass and concating it with d so I create instatiate a subclass called d1,d2,d3,d4,d5. However ds is a variable name but I want to call it d1.
or d + int a

user92578
so you want a variable d1 to contain a new instance of Dino?

user92578
And a variable d2 to contain another instance of Dino?

11:48 AM
yeah

user92578
You can't create a variable name from another variable like that

user92578
You probably want an array instead

why can't I?

user92578
Because that's not how programming languages without a preprocessor work

user92578
Why do you want five different instances?

user92578
11:49 AM
You probably actually really want to put them into an array

each dino class will has selected methods though.

user92578
huh?

user92578
I think you need to show more code

user92578
You're making very little sense and this sort of feels like an XY-problem

user92578
11:52 AM
Why is the class named Spaces?

user92578
What does it do?

user92578
Why do you need five different variables for Dino instances, and what's wrong with just making five variables for Dino instances?

I think to use a array

user92578
Dino d1 = new Dino(...);
Dino d2 = new Dino(...);
Dino d3 = new Dino(...);
Dino d4 = new Dino(...);
Dino d5 = new Dino(...);

it is a monopoly board game

user92578
11:54 AM
Dino[] dinos = new Dino[5];
dinos[0] = new Dino(...);
dinos[1] = new Dino(...);

user92578
You probably want an array like that

ok but each dino has three variables. It has a description,name and and a interger. Will I be able to use that with an array?

user92578
yes

ok thanks

user92578
dino[0] = new Dino("description for dino 1", "dino1", 12);
2

11:58 AM
thanks

user92578
dino[1] = new Dino("description for dino 2", "dino 2", 134);

user92578
and so on

looks like I going to have to change the four players synatx to an array as well.

user92578
good idea

but for the dino can I put Dino[] dinos = new Dino[5]; in the main?

user92578
12:02 PM
that's the array syntax yes

ok
@Tyyppi_77 where should I declare 'Dino[] dinos = new Dino[5];
'

user92578
where you need that data

12:30 PM
hello

user92578
hi

12:53 PM
ayo!

7 hours later…
7:43 PM
What are your guy's favourite / (the one you used the most) programming languages?

8:28 PM
@PintOfMilk probably either C or C#

user92578
@PintOfMilk C++

What do you think will be the most popular language in ten years? @TheMattbat999 @Tyyppi_77

Why?
I suppose it is oop+procedural...

It has been the reigning champ since its debut. Unless C plus plus plus (3 are intentional) comes out between then, it will probably stay the champ
Oh i seen your second question, but i was getting my butt kicked on a game

user92578
9:01 PM
@PintOfMilk Popular language for what?

user92578
Most used anywhere? JavaScript, probably

user92578
10 years isn't a lot even in a fast changing industry like computers

Especially when it comes to languages. C is over 40 years old, yet it is used today for baseline software. C++, JavaScript, and other commonly used languages are counting up some years too. Generally hardware is where 10 years make a huge difference.

user92578
Web isn't going to do a total switch to something different suddenly

9:20 PM
C++
@Tyyppi_77 Even if they do. The existing codebases will still last decades. Hell COBOL is still around for that very reason.
a user was removed. Now I have exactly 500 rep
yay for round numbers

9:47 PM
@bruglesco Yeah, I lost 50 on that today.

Is it weird that I always see User was removed as a scavenger hunt?
@DMGregory also that's not too bad. You've been around quite some time. For them to only have voted on five of your answers.

@bruglesco Me too, I'm always curious who it was and which posts they'd voted on!
I got a +30 bump today from Oskar Stålberg linking one of my answers so I really can't complain. ;)
You may have noticed that a non trivial fraction of my twitter activity consists of gently inquiring whether people posting 3x3 tilesets are familiar with Marching Cubes/Corner Tiles. Here's a good short overview, with pictures, by @D_M_Gregory https://gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/148460/combinations-for-tiling-two-textures-together

ohh wow that is a good thorough answer

10:30 PM
@bruglesco i hate when someone's account is deleted when they had posted on something
Awesome, one of my messages are on the star list 😁😁😁

11:32 PM
I've seen several games that include a tax percentage slider, or a set of sliders that indicate how much to take and where to distribute the money. Have any of you heard of games that have more complex tax system or that allow you to change tax policy?
