12:34 AM
Hello!
Anyone?
@AlexandreVaillancourt I know you are lurking :p

1:07 AM
Am I?

1:40 AM
Yes you are
@AlexandreVaillancourt

I wasn't there when you poked me. :)

Strange. Whatcha up to?

Trying to do stuff related to condo administration.

Oich. Sounds complicated

Bank website is refusing my password, so it will have to wait.
Sounds super not fun :P

1:47 AM
Yep. I am working on what I call a "pet project game". Nice liitle text rpg. Upgrading it from last time i worked on it (months ago)

It's a console game?

Um i guess? Runs through C.

console like in a shell?

Um yeah
(i know how to program, but none of the proper terminology)
Uh yeah yeah a shell
It is a linear dungeon crawler. The goal is to get strong enough along the way so you can fight the boss, The Great Dragon Quetzalcoalt
turn based combat, you gotta find weapons, and different stats and stuff
@AlexandreVaillancourt

Have you ever played a MUD?

1:55 AM
No, but i understand the concept
@AlexandreVaillancourt

Sounds like what you want to do, but solo :P

I had a class where we had to make content for a MUD once. It was an interesting experience.
I wish I could recall what language it was backed with.

Yeah it is single player (since i am sure networking would be too complex for my pet project)
I might be able to upload the .exe here one day so you can try it @AlexandreVaillancourt
Maybe even right now...
Considering i am done with the upgrades

Ah, there it is, LambdaMOO.

Nice.

2:03 AM
I was only suggesting that as an inspiration source :P

Oh... ok... maybe i jumped the gun a little

No worries :) I played astro.kastad.nu years ago.
@Pikalek I'll take a look at that.
@TheMattbat999 In case you'd want to make something like that, you'd most likely want to find an open source engine, where you'd only plug your own content.
But yeah, having that networked would be overkill if you don't need it.

@AlexandreVaillancourt meh i would have to rewrite the entire game for that anyway

Yeah.
Id like to write a multi user simulation one day.

It was a long time ago. I vaguely recall what my team worked on, but not much about what the coding was like. And it was the only game in town so to speak - all of the proff's virtual world stuff ran on it & no one else in the dept dabbled so it was that or nothing.

2:10 AM
Degummit my stupid phone will not allow me to upload any non-picture files!

@Pikalek Any coding is a good experience when you're in school, I think.

Ok i got it figured out. Now lemme see...

@TheMattbat999 On here?

Yes, it was still a cool experience. At the time I was somewhat down because I was starting to see rad course work showing up at U Mich, MIT, UIUC, & others. In retrospect I got a lot of bang for my $.

@AlexandreVaillancourt i tested alot of places, but i figured out how to work around it
Ok it is downloadable from there

2:13 AM
Sorry, I don't download exe's :/

Ouch ok
Goos night

Good night!

2:36 AM
@TheMattbat999 I wonder if there are engines that would allow for console games in web browser.

@AlexandreVaillancourt If he doesn't use it I will.

Hehe go ahead, I haven't tried it :)

3 hours later…
5:56 AM
Someone's actually making a ps4 emulator O.O

6 hours later…
11:37 AM
@AlexandreVaillancourt oh thanks! I will look at it

4 hours later…
4:07 PM
@GabrieleVierti Awesome. :D

Does anyone knows a java place/town/city name generator ? Searched for several days, couldnt find one... only websites that create such names :/

user92578
4:27 PM
look into markov chains

grr you know when your old code does not compile with a recent compiler...

user92578
sounds odd, isnt that stuff supposed to be backwards compatible?

Nyes; I found out that VS2017 set the "compliance" flag on by default, and that old code is not compliant.

user92578
4:54 PM
glad to hear that they changed the default though

Yeah, that's a good thing. And it's nice to see there is a flag for that!

nwp
5:16 PM
So you have non-compliant and the solution is to use a flag to allow non-compliant code?
Sounds very engineery.

@nwp Yes, that's partially the solution. That's business reality.
I'd love to fix those faulty libraries and make them compliant, but I don't know yet what it implies: dozens of projects depend on those, and we'll need to test them all. And I have more urgent things to tackle right now.

2 hours later…
7:46 PM
@PearsonArtPhoto New avatar, heh!

8:11 PM
@AlexandreVaillancourt I figured I might as well use this one, as it is what I'm using in most places on the internet now.

Kay
sigh picking new avatar
hmmm
Done
