1:06 AM
@StephaneHockenhull At least you have time :p

The little I have ...

1:20 AM
@StephaneHockenhull Yeah. I'm really looking forward to getting rid of this bronchitis so I don't have to go to bed at 8:30-9:00 anymore...

I'll get half an hour to one hour per day to do stuff!
Anyway, time to go to bed now, good nite!

7 hours later…
user92578
8:46 AM
wow 3 people online, I think this must be like a record or osmething

user92578
anyways, it's Friday, which means that I might have some time to do some fun stuff today

1:07 PM
@Tyyppi_77 What does "Fun Stuff" entail for you these days?

user92578
Refactoring my renderer after my OpenGL port

user92578
There's still stuff missing and SDL-oriented stuff that can be now altered to be more streamlined with how OpenGL works

user92578
Then the "fun fun" stuff would be to actually use shaders in a cool way, so experiment with lighting and stuff like that

I figured something like that;-)

user92578
Yeah; I also got invited to a group at uni where we intend to make some games, so I'd need get started with Unity a little, plus there's also a party that computer science freshmen organize, and me and another dude are supposed to setup a website for that

1:18 PM
@Tyyppi_77 Is it common for university students to have a part time job while they study?

user92578
I think some people do something a few hours a week, but it's not terribly common in the bachelor's phase, much more common when working on one's masters degree

user92578
I myself couldn't handle a job atleast right now, there's just so much to do

Yeah; here most cafés, McDonalds and the like are staffed with students, so a lot of students have a side job.
@Tyyppi_77 Well if you had to have a job, you'd do less stuff :P

user92578
Yeah exactly. I still live with my parents so I'm doing financially okay. All students get a monthly payment based on their living arrangements, plus a part of their rent (if rent is paid) paid, and then the state offers student loan guarantees, and if one graduates in the time allowed (I think it's like 5.5 years for a 5 year degree) then a part of the student loan is paid off by the state

user92578
The ratio of the monthly payment and the student loan guarantee per month used to be more towards the monthly payment, but yay, government changed those a few years ago

user92578
1:31 PM
It really kinda sucks, since people used to be able to live okay without taking the loan, but that's definitely not the case nowadays

Yeah, we have something like that too here; the loan is interest free until you graduate, then the interests start to accumulate. But these are only available to students of parents that don't make "enough money". This kind of sucks. The government was giving a lot of scholarships, but here too, they cut that down a few years ago.

user92578
There are so many baby boomers voting old people into government positions

Old and rich people. If you have/had money to send your kids to school and did not used external financial aid, how can you figure that it's useful?

user92578
Oh yeah good point.

user92578
So I could use some help with this:

user92578
1:42 PM

user92578
What's happening with the lines between the tiles?

user92578
It looks like somehow the camera position affects the texture coordinates or something, since those lines don't appear always, just in certain view offsets.

is it what happens when a coordinate is 0.5 and it antialiases?

user92578
Yeah I'm fairly certain that it's the non-integerness of the offset that causes this

I hate stupid shit like that :(

user92578
1:58 PM
Yeah, I've also had an occasional line appearing here and there with SDL's rendering so at least now I should have enough control to totally patch this

user92578
I've been pleasantly surprised how nicely I've structured my rendering, I can clean up a lot of stuff without changing the public interface that the actual game code uses

user92578
So the good old half-pixel offset thing fixes this, but it makes my sprite's outmost pixels thinner than they should be

user92578
Ah, also works with something smaller than half of a pixel

2:19 PM
In the US, it's pretty common to have a 10-20 hours a week job, rare to be full time.

1 hour later…
3:45 PM
@PearsonArtPhoto Full time when you're a student just doesn't work. You have no life, you have no time to sleep and you brain explodes.

4:09 PM
Full time student and full time job doesn't work well...
I've finally got my minimap to draw correctly now for the perspective view. Still need to do some anti-aliasing, but... I think I've almost got it!

5:05 PM
Nice! And these small blue dots toned down on the minimap is nice too!

Yeah, the biome definitions include an optional different color for the minimap.

5 hours later…
10:04 PM
@PearsonArtPhoto This perspective looks nioe
These flags
Two guys are arguing about whether you could check if you're immortal

10:57 PM
really depends on the type of immortality
if it's "I can get shot in the heart and live" then yes you can test. if it's just "I will live forever" then it's the same as the halting problem in computer science, and no, you can't test for that.
I guess the first kind still includes the second, so the real answer is always "no"

Invulnerable check is easy, just grab a pin and poke yourself.
Immortality just means you don't die. In theory you could be unable to move, blinded, and still feel everything forever. which would suck.
Like in Angel when he got thrown into the ocean.
