Q: Did Aldrich Killian believe Extremis to be safe in his case?

EleventhDoctorIn Iron Man 3 Aldrich Killian displays a rather cavalier attitude to the issue of future refinement of the Extremis treatment, as shown by his progressively more extravagant use of Extremis effects throughout the film, and also: Did he believe that Extremis was sufficiently perfected in his ca...

In Myriad, why did Non ask not to release White Martian?

@KutuluMike, @phantom42, @Ixrec, @JackB, @Himarm: I see you're moving this room off-site.
You may or may not know how this has panned out in the past; suffice to say, it can work, but it has, on occasion, gone very, very wrong.
When handling issues on Stack Exchange sites, moderators and staff normally try to assume good faith on the part of all participants. However, we have no visibility into off-site chat rooms and cannot be expected to monitor interactions in other venues. Therefore, to avoid situations where we must necessarily assume the worst, please...
...Be clear that your chat is not an official Stack Exchange venue.
...Avoid promoting your chat in official areas of the site: main, meta, or the primary chatroom.
...Avoid allowing people you do not know or trust into your chat.
...Avoid making decisions that affect the site or other members of the site in your chat.

i don't think any of those will be a problem.
we mostly moved off SE chat because this room no longer had anything to do with the sff site.
and because we're using Slack at work anyway so it's more convenient

@KutuluMike And that's fine. We'll probably shut down this room in a few days then.
Just wanted to give you fair warning, because - as I said - this has gone extremely badly in some high-profile ways in the past.
As a general guideline, we don't attempt to moderate off-site. However, if we get complaints or there's backlash on-site and it points into essentially a black hole... We gotta deal with that as best we can.

I honestly wasn't expecting the room to get shut down; I know several of us use Slack during the day and SE at night, there just hasn't been much activity in here at night for a while... but I won't object if you need to shut it down

of course it's not my room so...

8:31 PM
you're an owner too
it belongs to all of us
except dizzle

ahaha

@KutuluMike if it's still used, that's fine. If it's not, no point in keeping it.
Just don't do the SF thing where you have someone camping in the room just to tell folks to join an off-site room.
That... has not gone well.

is it ok to at least mention the existence of the slack room as a supplement to this one?

@KutuluMike so... I think I implied this strongly already, but... You probably don't want random people joining your room.
Folks you don't know == folks you have to moderate.

well sure, but it's invite only.

8:43 PM
Which defeats the purpose of having a "no moderation chat room"
And also creates the danger of someone getting pissed off & crying to us
which then makes it my problem again

if I don't recognize their email I'm going to figure out who they are first.
hrm. i see the problem.
i mean, so far there hasn't been anyone joining this room we'd keep out, but...

Yeah, so, I'm not really worried about you and, say, Himarm offending each other and then emailing team@
But... There are folks here who can, would, and have done exactly that

what can they really expect you to do about some unrelated offsite chat?
that's like if I ran into one someone on IRC and pissed them off.

@KutuluMike they can expect all sorts of things. What'll actually happen is I shut down this room and ban any further mention of an off-site room.

fair enough.

...That's assuming this doesn't blow up into some sort of PR nightmare where someone claims SFF is promoting sexism / racism / abortion / religion / whatever and posts unverifiable chat transcripts and my days turn into a twisted maze of double-speak and anger.
...moreso than already...
...which, sadly, has happened before too.
Hence the whole, "Imma post some guidelines this time" thing.

i mean, we made it pretty clear the slack room was a private room, unrelated to sff, but I dunno what else to do to make that "stick".

@KutuluMike Guideline #3: don't invite people in unless you know them and know you're not gonna have problems.

well i invited dizzle.
so that's right out

well, that's your cross to bear for now
