Q: When I click "review", will my own substandard posts appear?

dmcdivittI have incessant anxiety over my own posts, and if substandard, whether they will appear anywhere. How am I to know? They may be presented to others and not me!

Hello, the junk drawer.

@Sue Things are fine; thanks for asking :) ....I just got a bunch of new responsibilities, and those don't leave much time for SE :(
@J.Musser -- regarding
@Sterno yeah, that is a problem... There seems to be a lack of interest. I'll keep my eye out. If I notice anyone I could discuss some things with 'em, in case they're interested. — J. Musser 7 hours ago
....sooner rather than later, please :)
....I have some ideas, but I need time to write up an answer

A: Who should be our Moderators Pro Tempore be?

Shokhetmichaelpri Meta In my dealings with him around LH, michaelpri has been both helpful and polite. His current >2K rep speaks to his dedication in adding quality content to this site. He probably won't remember this, but I contested a point in one of his answers, and he responded politely even w...

@michaelpri I hope you'll think about it; this site needs mods, and I think you'd do a good job.

@Shokhet Thanks for the nomination. Not sure if I'm gonna take it, but I'll definitely think about it.

5:15 PM
@Shokhet I asked nicael, on MSE tavern

@J.Musser Nice, I saw he added an answer.
@michaelpri Thanks for accepting the nomination! If you get the diamond, I'm sure you'll do a great job :)
....I didn't realize you were that young, but then again we always had Doorknob, as you pointed out :)

@Shokhet Thanks for nominating me. I just wish you would still be able to because I think that you'd be great at it.

@michaelpri Thanks for the compliment :) ....I would've liked to have diamond powers, but perhaps I'll get another chance later.
.....if we ever graduate, maybe I'll be elected, rather than appointed :P

I would vote for you.

Thanks :) ....we'd have to graduate first, and then see who's running, and how much time those candidates have then.
....we also need a scope; but that's a separate issue :P

Yeah we really need to get our full scope defined

7:39 PM
@Shokhet The biggest issue... lol

7:50 PM
@michaelpri BTW, the tag: markdown doesn't render in tag wiki excerpts.

@Mooseman Oh okay, I wasn't sure. I was hoping it would show me a preview of the excerpt, but it didn't.

Q: Problem with the Help Center

michaelpriI was looking around at the LH Help Center and I realized that it does not give helpful information at all. @michaelpri that's not a problem, it's the default text
It should be replaced by the scope, but since we have no scope, we don't really have anything to put there

Should I change the name of the post to something like fixing up the Help Center

Q: Do we need something in the Help Center in place of our scope?

Fixed it up a bit

Congrats!

Thanks :)
....I'm one of four, atm
the other three are @J.Musser (duh), Zach Saucier and Sterno (not currently pingable)

Trying to figure out why I don't have a bronze tag in (lifehacks.stackexchange.com/users/15/mooseman?tab=tags)

Easy. We need 100 questions in that tag first; we're currently at 96

:(

9:13 PM
Just ask (or retag) four more questions!

I already retagged those applicable to get 20 for myself :p

@Shokhet I'm trying not to make overly broad, even though it inherently is.

....I started browsing our unanswered questions out of boredom: we have only six unanswered questions! Good work, everyone! :)

That's why I've been adding , , etc.

9:16 PM
@Mooseman I see. I was wondering why lifehacks.stackexchange.com/q/166/59 got that tag....

@Shokhet rolled back

@Mooseman Fair enough.

@Mooseman Why? I think it's fine as is.

@Shokhet I think the "how to make..." questions are off-topic, just like the "why" questions.

9:21 PM
@Mooseman I disagree. The question presents a problem, and requests a solution, doesn't it?

Q: write better titles, at least for the sake of creativity if for nothing else

bluet337 of 476 (70%) questions contain the word "how" in their title. Most of them with "how" as the first word. These types of titles that start with how to how do how can are too bland. They fail rules 1-4 of How do I write a good title. I believe this is hurting page views. Imagine if you ...

There are close votes on this question for being off-topic as a "how to make" question. I disagree, and think that it's squarely on-topic, as the question presents a problem, and requests a solution. — Shokhet 15 secs ago
...I have to run now (that pesky Bat-signal again). Hopefully we can discuss this later.

lol (The Bat-signal)
Yes, I'll be here.
I'm writing something up on meta now...

Q: How elaborate is an on-topic hack?

MoosemanInspired by this question and this chat message. One example is that Stack Overflow is not a code-writing service. Although we are a hack-writing service, so to speak, how elaborate can such a hack be? Questions asking "how to make..." such as this one and this one are closed, because we aren't...

Q: How can we urge people to select an answer?

dmcdivittIsn't it better for people to choose an answer after awhile? Should we add comments to questions advising people to please pick one?
