1400 users voted as of now. With 15 hours left in the election, the number is unlikely to reach 1500.

Anastasiya-Romanova has not signed in since the 14th. Perhaps she was grounded.

5:36 AM
I am pretty sure that she was grounded from the site until this washes over. Her parents are going to flip out of their shoes if she actually wins the election. I hope this whole thing just passes, her unelected, and she comes back to contribute some math just like any normal 14 year old who loves to crank out integrals.

I think that would probably be for the best, yes.

5:49 AM
I do however hope that they find some way to mail her whatever bling SE had in mind for the nominees, t-shirts and such things I suppose; I think she would really cherish something like that more than most being a 14 year old child in Crimea.

7:04 AM
@Behaviour Where are you getting these statistics from?

7:22 AM
@AhaanS.Rungta To find how many users voted so far, subtract 1137 from the number of Constituent badge awards. 1137 is how many times the badge was awarded prior to this election.

8:20 AM
We're now at 1404 voters with 11 hours and 40 minutes left.

Hellooooo, is anyone up?

Up, up, and away

Hello my friend, my dear friend.
I know this is math chat but at the moment I have no limits. Can someone help with physics?

8:55 AM
@ta3920 This is not math chat, this is the chat room for the Math.SE 2014 Moderator Election.

9:14 AM
WHAT, How did I end up here. I apologize greatly. Thankfully my problems were mostly solved as well. Thank you and sorry about this.

9:31 AM
hi everyone

10:09 AM
Hi pal

1 hour later…
11:17 AM
We have some questions where regular users ask basically: What is it like to be a moderator? For example: MSE and meta.MSE as seen by moderators
I think that newly elected mods might be in a position to give some insightful answers. They have entered election with some expectations what is moderatorship going to be like. So they can easily summarize what are the things that surprised them the most.

Good idea^

I don't know what to think about the current state of the 2014 moderator election. It's great that so many people are eager to help, but I don't feel like any of the current candidates fit the bill.

4:49 PM
@MBlanc So, out of curiosity, what is it that you would be looking for in a candidate?

5:17 PM
@IlmariKaronen I did exaggerate a bit, let me revise that: "MOST of the current candidates don't fit the bill". IMHO the main job of a moderator is sifting through the crap on the site, so it should be someone who can put up with that.
I think we agree on that, based on your nomination :)

5:32 PM
So I'd say experience

@MBlanc Fair enough, I guess. It's kind of hard to get experienced mods as candidates, though, since the only way to really gain experience for moderation is to be one. Doing a lot of review may help in some ways, but from all I've heard, it's similar in some ways, but quite different in others.
Of course, we could always steal, um, I mean recruit experienced mods from other SE sites. :)

6:20 PM
@MBlanc "main job of a moderator is sifting through the crap on the site" -- no, that's the job for regular users, who have the tools to deal with the crap in all but exceptional circumstances. Then the mods can deal with those exceptions.

30 minutes to go.
Predictions anyone?

You will win in a landslide victory.

:O i better go vote
is it too late?

Not for another 27 minutes.

thanks pal

7:52 PM
@MikeMiller thanks for your vote of confidence, I meant predictions for this election though.
7 minutes. I hope Asaf will be quick as usual to provide results.

Yes, I was predicting for this election. I admit that perhaps my prediction is nonstandard.

1458 users voted so far... the very last one to come to the ballot box are listed here.
A few minutes until we can congratulate 7 winners and offer our condolences to the three users who lost...
4

7 winners?

@JimmyK4542 Those who get off free and don't need to pick up moderation chores.

8:00 PM
and still get the swag!

ahh ok
and the election has closed

dun dun dun...

Congratulations to izoec for being apparently the last user to vote in an MSE election.
(All future elections will be cancelled after our new moderators assume permanent control.)

And ... I already have that swag. They were handing out those to top 30 in rep in something like 2012

The page says "1425 voted". This is inconsistent with the count of Constituent badges.

8:01 PM
Want to send me your extras, @Jyrki? I would use an MSE coffee mug.

@Mike: Sure. I may need two t-shirts, but two coffee mugs?

So I guess I'll download the election data and see if I can decode it

my e-mail address is lahtonen(at)utu.fi. E-mail me your address.

I hope it's better than the graphicdesign.se swag I got earlier this year... the T-shirt was OK, but the notebook sucked. :/

Maybe some users voted and then un-voted? A badge- and hat-grabbing move. ?

8:04 PM
Of course, stil... free swag! :)

Asaf did not disappoint

Q: 2014 Election Results: Congratulations to the new moderators!

Asaf KaragilaThe 2014 elections are over. Analyzing the OpenSTV file the results are as follows (with no particular order): Jyrki Lahtonen Daniel Fischer Pedro Tamaroff At the same time, I'd like to thank our departing moderators for their long and hard work over the years!

Hohum.

Congrats @Jyrki @DanielF @Pedro!

@MikeMiller No there were a few more. Lord_Farin came back from 1+ year sabbatical to vote.

That kinda eats the announcement post I was planning to make.

8:07 PM
@GraceNote You can edit Asaf's.

Well, congrats to the last three for voting in the final ever MSE election.

The mod team could have used Ilmari instead of me. I guess he's too useful to be put in an expendable position.

Hello, fellers.

1st choice vote counts: Daniel 554, Jyrki 259, Pedro 174, Jack 111, Ilmari 103, Anastasiya 72, Arkamis 56, Shaun 48, Ahaan 24, Dustin 24

The transfer of diamonds happened very quickly.

8:14 PM
Indeed.
It did not yet propagate to chat though.

quid, can you delete messages from this site's chat?

@JyrkiLahtonen Thanks for the flattery. :D I'm happy with the results, though (and not just because it's less work for me ;). IMO, we got a good set of new mods. I voted for two of you three, and only because my first vote went to myself. :)

@MikeMiller yes I think so.

@Behaviour Barely any point in the long run. Basically it was just an extra sentence noting that one can view the online summary, plus the farewells to Willie and Alex plus the welcomes to the newcoming moderators were paragraphs long.

Worked. (The message of Mike Miller two lines above was a test message)

8:16 PM
Cool.

@Behaviour: Yeah, my user page already looks different. There's a link to something called moderator agreement. Wonder if I should click it. 12 flags are awaiting...
2

@GraceNote Could you also add a link to opavote to the election page itself? The meta thread will be lost in the mist of time but the election page remains prominent.

@Behaviour It'll eventually go up

@JyrkiLahtonen except if you want to decline the election you better click it.

Well. 600+ nods in the primary and 259 1st picks here. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I try to live up to the expectations (or is it worst nightmares)

8:18 PM
Possibly
I can't edit it into the page directly because that page actually is recycled for each election - I'll see what I can do about getting it onto the results block.

@GraceNote I talked to @Shog9 about adding opavote link, and he told me to remind him. So I assume he can edit it in.

...which reminds me, time to change my hat. :)

I think you would look good in a waffle or a Major Award.

And to think we could have saved all this trouble by automatically electing three highest rep nominees. :)

@JyrkiLahtonen Where is that link? I can't find it.

8:26 PM
Yeah. I also noticed this.
@DanielFischer click on "mod" next to "review" then you should get it.

@DanielFischer Just click "mod" at the top bar and you should be forced to sign it before seeing anything else.

Okay. I hope it won't hurt.

@Behaviour Done'd, he says.

@GraceNote Thanks, I see the link on the election page now. It goes to meta post, which has the link to STV results. Good idea.

Thanks! It was such a great idea that I didn't come up with it but I'll take credit all the same! ♪

8:33 PM
@DanielFischer: See the whie number in a blue square. Click that and you get to see the flags. Before that you are taken to mod agreement page.

Congrats to Jyrki for going blue.

@JyrkiLahtonen Already got there, quid and Grace told me.

Ok. See you there, @DanielFischer

@PedroTamaroff good luck for the position! And, try not pay attention to users ranting around in comments on the announcement. I will admit I did not vote for you, as there were three candidates I preferred over you. But still I am sure you will do a good job.

@quid Well, thank you.

2 hours later…
11:04 PM
This was a short election party...
Where did everybody go?

I never leave, @quid

Great!

11:20 PM
OK, I'm leaving to see a movie.

Have fun.
