@AlexandreVaillancourt because it's much easier ahahahahhaah :P

@GabrieleVierti oh, I guess that's a point :p

11:40 AM
@AlexandreVaillancourt thanks anyway. I'm not going to rewrite the project I'm on right now anyway. I'll take a closer look when I start the next one.

I would not recommend Qt for a game. Qt tries to give you standard look-and-feel. Games typically do not.
@GabrieleVierti That's not what precompiled headers are for. If you recompile everything every time you need to fix your build system.
(which admittedly is much more difficult, annoying and time-consuming than it should be)

12:51 PM
I'm actually doing game development for once, but this time a simple web-based game.

Databases are interesting... Hmmm...

@TheMattbat999 Once upon a time, there was an IRC with a channel called 'silence is golden' - any user that posted chat was auto kicked from the channel by a script. It was surprisingly entertaining in its own way.

Kind of reminds me of my project I'm working on:-)

2:40 PM
@nwp I think he meant that PCHs help not recompile overthinking every time!

I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I broke under the pressure and now have Steam on my computer.
On the plus side I got to play Overcooked 2.

@nwp Are you a robot? I kind of figured that humans can't be treated like robots, and thus can't work all the time.

It's not about me working all the time. It's about me hating on Steam for owning the game market.
I'd much rather buy games from not-Steam, but it just is not possible.

Ah, ok. I tried that once.
The platform died and I lost all the games I bought.

nwp
Working? Or buying a non-Steam game?

Oh hehe
both, I guess :P

It actually went surprisingly well. Once you know that dpkg --add-architecture i386 is required at least. Also that my controllers simply worked. No driver hunting, no restarting, nothing. Start game, plug in controller, stuff works.
Maybe I put some pressure on people to make Linux versions at least. I've seen Overcooked and Magicka that have a Windows-only version 1 and a version 2 that works on Linux.
Also I kinda wanna brag that my shiny new NVidia card is able to run Overcooked 2. That was somewhat unexpected. Maybe the benchmarks were misleading.

Yeah, I guess it's a chicken-and-egg issue. More people on Linux will see more games on Linux, and more games on Linux will appeal to more Linux users...

user92578

user92578

Nice. I expect lot's of games from you then. No pressure.

user92578
:)

That must feel awesome!
Did you make a lot of friends?

user92578
A few, there were 6 of us doing this particular task, few people who I really liked and one who I didnt really get along with. Plus a few people coming to the same uni as me next fall, studying different stuff

user92578
The two best friends I made will also be studying computer science in Aalto University with me, but they'll be one year behind me

4:18 PM
Cool, so you'll see them again, often-ish
Did you guys have to train the "next crew" with the secret thing you were working on, or is it always the permanent military people that do that?

user92578
We trained the next crew yeah

Cool, a nice addition to skills, I guess :)

5:06 PM
