12:57 PM
hey all

hello
I have finally managed to compose subsystems back into a compilable game (but some of them don't work)

As in divining your project into smaller chunks?

well, not the entire project, but the biggest part of it

well done! that sounds like a difficult task

I'm working on input system now - it's a wrapper around unity's input, but it takes into account arsenal panel and chat panel
If the chat is open, WASD should not affect the game but mouse should.

1:06 PM
ah handling input is interesting, but the more setups you support the more complicated it can become

If the arsenal is open, WASD should affect the game and mouse should choose the weapon.

do you support controllers?

At this moment, I only support keyboard+mouse.

Fair enough

Releasing the game has priority over secondary features that can be added later.
Anyway, it always ends up that I add features I didn't even think of

1:10 PM
That's true, if the game works, it doesn't really matter hehe

such as glue weapons, it's a game mechanic when you shoot glue blobs and anyone who walks on them becomes immobile
usually game developers use ice as a standard "freezer"

nwp
You rebel

But I will use ice to create an iceball that becomes part of the terrain
@nwp Yes.

That's the fun part of video games isn't it? creating something new :P

Yes
I see that Team17 is not experimenting with new weapons, especially meme ones, there are always banana bomb, old woman, and other traditional weapons, but very few new weapons with unique mechanics. I'm trying to create new weapons and effects.

1:27 PM
I've actually heard companies having legal issues with using memes in games
Apparently the person that made the "troll face" meme, is allowing everyone to use it for free, but when people try to earn money using it, he is trying to stop them

oh shi-
I'm not a supporter of this thing. Memes belong to everyone!

nwp
Memes belong in the trash.
But that's just me. I don't know why everyone thinks memes are funny or otherwise have value and I don't.

some of them actually aren't funny, it's inevitable

nwp
I have yet to see a funny meme.
Like "this is fine" isn't funny at all.
And neither is "troll face".
Or the salt guy. I saw the show, I understand the reference and yet when salt guy rains down subs in some twitch channel it's not funny or interesting. It's a waste of space.
</rant>
<rant>I think bongo cat was the worst. Not funny, nothing interesting at all in any of the variations and yet people tell me if I don't find bongo cat funny I'm dead inside. Apparently I am.</rant>

1:45 PM
what is bongo cat

It's cancer, it isn't a meme.
I remember this

nwp
@trollingchar What's the difference?

Despite they both propagate themselves using people and internets, there is one difference. Cancer is the content I don't like, and a meme is the content I like.

nwp
Show me the one you like the most.

1:51 PM
I'll choose when I return home
@nwp by the way, this one is good

@trollingchar the thing is, like any other art, it belongs to the creator, regardless if its a meme or not
Honestly I always found it weird when people tried to make money from memes

nwp
Memes are super complicated copyright-wise. I only made part of it, so it's not my copyright to give. And I didn't get permission to create derivative work.

2 hours later…
3:35 PM
hello people from the earth!

hello fellow human :P

3:52 PM
They started to dive in mega stakes in the ground on a neighbouring property at work. We'll spend the winter being annoyed by the jackhammering sound of the machine that does it. Then, in a couple of years, we'll have a new sky scraper neighbour!
I had BOSE blocking sound headphones, but funnily enough, these people can cancel sounds, but have a hard time soldering a wire.

oh wow
what building is it going to be? business?

Apartments, I think, targeting (rich-ish) students and 50+ people.

That's a shame, after hearing so many talks of making affordable housing in general :/

@nwp I can't pick one so I'll pick some

What about the BOSE headphones? what happened there? :P

4:06 PM
You don't build affordable housing there, it's right into downtown. You see the the place where the main festival occur from your window.
They'll most likely rent to students from September to May/June, and to tourists during the summer.
$$$

@TomTsagk They stopped working. Like that. A badly soldered wire (I think). So I was able to ear some music, and some sound was canceled, but only from one ear, while I had weird noises coming to the other ear.

Are they covered by warranty?
I've had the chance to try them once, and was really surprised how it feels like you have headphones, without anything touching your ears

@TomTsagk Of course not, it happened a couple of months after the warranty stopped covering them :P
I had those. They did touch my ears :P

oooooh you did mention headphones :P
For some reason I was thinking of the glasses :P
Ah that's a shame, hope you made the most out of them at least

4:15 PM
Glasses? What does that look like?

They look like this (amazon.co.uk)
They don't touch your ears, but you can hear music normally
What I found cool about them is that others can't easily hear the music you hear, unless they are next to you

That's both ugly and fascinating! So they have mini speakers?
@Josh Hey you're still a mod :P

xD
They have some sort of speakers on the fat part of the glasses, that plays the music, but is directed towards your ear

Yeah, nice!

They were interesting when I tried them, but they are really high-end :P

4:24 PM
Yeah, I guess so!
And it's made for people that don't already need to wear glasses ;)

Even though I wear glasses I never thought of that :P

4:58 PM
These also mean that you can only use that outside. What do you do at work?

That's a good point, I assume you can't really wear them while looking at a monitor

It's a cool toy you can use during your daily jogging session because you can hear the cars and such but I don't see well the other contexts they could be used.
Operating your tractor if you're a farmer?

When I first tried them I thought the music quality was good, but you make so many good arguments of why they aren't that usable in everyday life
:P

(And even for jogging, do they stay well on your face?)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Are those things that vibrate your skull and you hear it?

5:05 PM
Not these, no, these have mini speakers that shoot the sound right into your ear.
ears*

I'm not sure if they can properly stay on your face while jogging, they are chunkier so they might fall down
@Vaillancourt beat me to it with your comment :P
Why are you so fast

Dunno :P
This person would benefit from programming with boxes and relations between them, but I don't have a clue what to search on google for that.

5:22 PM
Do you mean something like Scratch?

Hm, I haven't been able to look in details what scratch is. I think what I had in mind is flowchart.

Aah, I remember those, can't remember if there's a name for them
Like pseudocode, but with shapes

I'll most likely look into Scratch in a couple of years, once I allow my kid to use a laptop :P
Yep

:P
Scratch is fun, I had a friend of mine that was using it, but i'm not sure how complex it can get
Nothing beats the bizarre greek programming language we were taught when I was in high school
Wooh they seem to have a new site. The language was called Glossomatheia

A "Language learning & research center"?

5:36 PM
Hmmm I'm not sure why, it doesn't mention the language anywhere
I found this app on the Play Store - Glossomatheia where you can see in the screenshots what the language looks like
Not sure if the first site I found is from the same people
It was a terrible language,
maybe it helps introduce children to programming, but that's about it :P

Maybe it'd make sense if I understood Greek :P

basically all the commands are in caps, and the language looks ilke this in english:

VARIABLES x, y (declare variables)
READ x (read from stdin)
WRITE x (write to stdout)

It is actually! good catch
But without anything object oriented

Yeah. That's not the first thing that you do when you create a language, I guess. Unless you want a language that has only objects..
(I guess)

3 hours later…
user4704
8:31 PM
Yep. :/

user4704
Still waiting.
