for me it's much more important for a character to have a rich description and a proper link to his work in his profile
through which I can dig
3k rep on gd.se or smaller sites usually means the user is active and you might just be able to exchange two words with him without trying to kill yourself
3k rep on SO could also mean you're dealing with some person from oDesk about whom I will not say more who is asking stuff like "how do android listview update"
and answering with "u use updat in backgrnd mdl"
which get votes
because a lot of persons from oDesk google that kind of shit
@Grey yes, a lot more terrible than a face to face conversation or a list of achievements
@Grey I view rep this way: on smaller SE sites, like GameDev, it matters more, and it more accurately shows who is more trustworthy. But, on sites like SO, it just shows how many questions they have asked/answered
@Grey Normally, if you're in 2+ chat rooms on SE, you'll see a section on the right of the chat window above the stars that says: "other rooms you're in", and you can switch to those rooms by clicking the links. But the SO and SE chat rooms are in two different worlds, so you need 2 tabs, one for the SO rooms, and an other for the SE rooms
IMO the problem with the reputation system + privileges is that you give a false sense of community because those with more rep end up becoming child gods with hammers(similar to mods - but more child like)
I think the 3k rep limit for closing votes and reviewing everything is way too high
I'm starting to think it's too low. If you haven't spent serious time using the tools available to you, putting you in a situation where you're expected to use them expertly is a bit naive. Review was suppose...
