6:00 PM
I'm thinking the users would determine the in/out, then "magic" with the thousands of replays, then something that plays card games.
Is there any other possibility for an AI for my usecase?

Unless you want to make an entire matrix of neural networks that will almost guarantee itself to be too heavy to run on silly earth computers, you probably want to pick a specific card game

Well it's not going to be one neural network for all the games
That's why in my question I asked about which level to apply the AI on

Multiple, I missed the question sorry

it could be the ruleset level, deck level, or card level

Maybe you could do it in one network for blackjack, but I'm not sure you will get useful results on most games with only one

6:06 PM
How many would you need for blackjack?
Oh misread, you said 1 right.
Sorry!

A texas holdem poker one uses 3 :\ - but more for unpredictability
Relevant - and quite interesting. I wish I was into poker, so that I could have played this thing when I was in Vegas

Awesome, see I'm not totally far out there :P

Thanks for the link I've already started reading it.
But if I don't need the perfect play a casino demands...
I should probably be able to get away with 1 network for each deck?

I'd imagine you would want to classify things like risk and possible reward, then decide what avenue of classification to take next

Casino's don't demand perfect play. One of the pages actually deals with how they had to dumb the machine down so that it could be fun for casual players.

6:09 PM
@Harry Even if you don't need "casino level" gameplay you still need a working network of networks
Think about it like this, your network has a finite number of hidden layers, each with finite precision

just 1 network is too expensive?

The NN you'd be using is something like a tiny fraction of the smallest slice of a rats brain

Right

You just straight up can't expect it to remember very much

Man, at the end it even has the ability to copy professional players play styles :\

6:13 PM
@MickLH Curious if you think there's any other alternatives to my problem?

@Noctrine don't you feel comfort in the fact that we generally are so poor at programming our own organic network that even the weakest tiny over-simplified neural network with quantized precision and time can absolutely make fools of us when programmed decently

I welcome our future robot overlords.

@MickLH while you're here

Sheldon Cooper has a different view of the future: youtube.com/watch?v=L2ix8LsaiZA

I welcome electromagnetic brain probes that allow you to inject gradient descent / back-propagation coefficients into our own neurons

6:16 PM
I have a different game, it's a grand strategy game with thousands of agents

Pip
@ToddersLegrande I ended up having 4 slices

each character can do things like, if it's single, try to find someone to marry, the person they're marrying should have suitable rank, be rich, like them back, not have conflicts with the family, etc

I would also recommend an english muffin with Nutella

For this game I'm thinking of implementing a HTN...

Pip
6:19 PM
@ToddersLegrande I have had those before :D

because I have predetermined goals and i can pretty easily set the weights I think.
a NN would be a worse choice because... i dunno, too much search surface?
I'm also thinking of a utility based planner instead of a HTN

@Pip That last edit fundamentally changes the answer. @Grey was wrong, and his code was bad :p

Any advice? I might be able to ask this question in a way that might be okay with the mods

Pip
I fixed the bad code, at least :P
lol
he has improved a lot since then

@Noctrine I'm always right, because mom said so.

6:23 PM
Don't blame us, it's the system! The system I tell you!!

Pip
lol
@ToddersLegrande omfg.... this toast is amazing (about to finish my last piece)

@MickLH If you're not here anymore thanks for all your help. That was great, I guess I need to try it to see how much of the cpu budget the damn thing needs

I'm always there lurking...

Pip
yessir, you are
too bad Alex isn't here....
@ToddersLegrande I'm hungry still... going to make scalloped potatos

lol have at it

6:29 PM
@Harry You've inspired me, I've been procrastinating on my own NN based project for too long now... IT HAPPENS TODAY

@MickLH But... economics MMO :(

haha, good luck to you!

@ToddersLegrande I need a break from it lol, I'm burning through it fast, I think I can take a day off and still be ahead of my teammates

What's your economics mmo it sounds interesting

@Harry If the question doesn't have a definitive answer, then no, the correct answer is not the one with the most info.

6:35 PM
This is why everyone loves baseball right?

@Grey good graphics but the animations are a bit too over the top
I can see them repeating

@MickLH Yeah the technique is called "enhanced with music"

That should work great :D

@ToddersLegrande Look at that batter.
I don't know what he's doing.
The umpire is the best.

6:37 PM
He's bow chicka wow wowing, Unts! Unts! Unts! Unts!

Lol

@Jon This website isn't about fake Internet points. It's about helping people solve problems. Rep was developed as a way to judge how trustworthy members are in their answers.

@jon to answer your question, new guys can get points by answering questions, asking good questions, accepting answers and suggesting good edits.
that's how I did it anyway :)

I don't even want to know what the installation procedure is.

Leave Britney Mac alone! ;_;

6:49 PM
I have never named my computers before.
I know people that have(car,computer,phone,tv)
It's kind of scary lol :<

heh, I only name them so that it's easier to know which machine you're talking with over the network
And I only recently started naming my drives something other than C, D, E, F, and G
Silly, but I settled on the cast of Trailer Park boys. And "Lahey & Randy" is the name for my mirror, lol
Bubbles for TV
Better than more drives named after LOTR or Star Wars, am I right?

@JohnMcDonald <son> of <father> of <kingdom>

Hey quick question. Does anyone here have their own website for their personal projects/portfolio?

not me

What happens if we say yes

6:57 PM
shhhh hides

yes

basically I am just looking for opinions on which hosting websites are good and such
recommendations if you will

Omnis.com is the webhost I use

any particular reason?

6:59 PM
I'm hosted at writhem.com, but full disclosure: I know Mike Writhe and get a good deal. Still good prices for a hotel

or was it just the first site that worked for you?

it had what I needed
I can pay for one host account
get all the bandwidth I need
and attach other domains as I want without paying extra

ah, makes sense

they're not cheap, like $6 a month or something

so far all the reseach I did was pointing to GoDaddy and HostGator

7:00 PM
but no bandwidth limits, SQL dbs available, etc
take a look; they may not be right for you, but it can't hurt to read a little

yeah I'm not really looking for too much to be honest
I just want a page I can host a few model files, some unity web builds, and if possible a small organized blog of sorts

i host an EVE forum there, an eve trade database, and my wife's graphic design portfolio

I'd honestly be fine with just 90% up time

Wow, writhem offers 250mb storage/2GB transfer for $0.99/month? Crazy

oh and i host maniac games there
forgot about that
haven't updated that in years
i should; but i'd have to learn a new web game platform as I hate flash

7:04 PM
alright well thanks for the tips. I'll do some more research on both of these sites

yeah, 250mb wouldn't be enough for me. I'm at 278.16mb on my server. Just fyi
I could probably clean stuff up, but who wants to waste the time?

@Almo Unity :P

I've never had a problem with hostgator for their price
I think the worst that happened was I had a few minutes of downtime once ever

@Almo yes i hate flash as well
as3 too :/

I'd actually put them above godaddy, it seems like they run the same program on different quality of datacenters

7:15 PM
Arvixe hosed a couple of my sites during a server migration... I think it was just a web.config issue which they resolved once I issued a support ticket

NSA>
Is GMAIL down for anyone else?

yes

damn

@ToddersLegrande i don't make 3d games, and it's overkill for 2d games
as3 isn't so bad

7:18 PM
@Almo the 4.3 patch makes it pretty 2D friendly

it's the flash framework

Haven't you heard?

html5 does everything you could want now

yes but I have to learn how to build a game in html5
I still have to finish my music and my iphone game

and the internet is overflowing with libraries and examples and snippets to copy

7:19 PM
I don't need a third project

oh and the whole open source engine thing is cool :P
actually being able to drop the content into another engine without modification is really cool

There needs to be a language called shorthand that has a really really ease to use and likeable syntax and is just as powerful as C++(because.) It will also support all the paradigms
In geometry, a convex uniform honeycomb is a uniform tessellation which fills three-dimensional Euclidean space with non-overlapping convex uniform polyhedral cells. Twenty-eight such honeycombs exist: * the familiar cubic honeycomb and 7 truncations thereof; * the alternated cubic honeycomb and 4 truncations thereof; * 10 prismatic forms based on the uniform plane tilings (11 if including the cubic honeycomb); * 5 modifications of some of the above by elongation and/or gyration. They can be considered the three-dimensional analogue to the uniform tilings of the plane. History * 1900:...
This is amazing.

i love stuff like that

@Grey want EBNF grammar and a Jison project that goes from source to tree back to source?

@MickLH say what

7:27 PM
I wrote a little toy that tokenizes and parses a language kinda similar to JS

kk sure

The prototype it written in JS, and outputs (working) C++ code

dynamically typed then?

The language it parses is, although it would be trivial to enforce types to it
Actually if I can get some files I left on a laptop in LA, I even took it as far as making a machine code generator

lol go visit irc.freenode.net #reddit-gamedev
hilarious
right now.
@MickLH :v
lmao
looool
@MickLH Where can I try it
I want to try ur language where. how.

7:34 PM
@Grey hold on I'm packaging up the minimal necessary stuff

Pip
back
I need 51 more rep :D

@Pip Keep in mind you shouldn't be necroing old questions / answers when you do this. I don't know if you are just thought I'd say something just in case... seem to be doing a lot of rep farming right now :P

@mick yay

be warned, it's a prototype
that means horrible code you know
I'd give you the nice shiny C++ version, but 1. it's not ready, 2. it's heavily integrated with the other datatypes in my engine

7:49 PM
@ToddersLegrande he's desperate to get 500 rep

I noticed

Pip
@ToddersLegrande I'm not :D (but the rep farming is true)
@Almo yep

@MickLH so translating to H gives me back js

@Grey actually that's the language H

!!!

7:50 PM
it's compatible with JS
no
it's almost compatible with JS, if you avoid & | ^ and !

Wait it gives me Html
not JS
So translate gives me C++ code back(if I have C++ selected in the dropdown) what does lint do?

It will parse your H code into a tree, then build source from scratch from that tree with proper formatting and syntax highlighting
Also the things that aren't obvious off the bat: A | B is actually max(A,B)
A & B = min(A, B); A ^ B = pow(A, B); A! = factorial(A)
also, there is not true/false, just 1 and 0, so (5 > 2) = 1
also, all if (X) is actually always if (X != 0)

if x is not false.
okay
what is it initialized to by default? true?

All variables are undefined until they are used

Neat!

7:56 PM
And all function calls operate in a new child scope of their caller
One more "gotcha", all functions are anonymous, so you can't write function main() {} but instead you have to write main = function() {}

greaterNum = function(a,b) {

return a | b;

 }
small baby steps but getting there lol
This would work right?
