sheep herding was a main occupation of Romanians, throughout time

we've got a folk ballad called "Miorita" (little sheep), about a shepherd who knows he's going to be killed by two others, to have his sheep stolen

and he does nothing about it, resigning to his fate

it is a reference to the popular choice of Romanians in face of danger
