hi, game architecture question!

imagine i have robot, and i need to make it pick up a thing (that consists of playing animation 1, then attaching one object to another, then playing animation 2)

what kind of pattern should do this? should i have state machine, checking if animation has finished, or should i have callbacks that i put after calling animations?

Hi Kikaimaru, the system I currently use implements animation events. Part of our asset pipeline allows our artists to place named animation events on specific key frames, which in turn allows our programmers to listen for these events via the callback system. This tends to facilitate a lot of edge case code though, and more often than not we get correct results by simply leveraging animation states, and allowing the engines state transition system to blend the two animations.

The animation events are incredibly useful, especially for triggering sounds at specific points. Also, the system I am using allows for animation events to provide further control of the automated blending process. If two animations share an event of the same name, the system will allow the first animation to carry out until the first event is triggered, and then blend all the way through to the same event in the second animation.

Actually I believe the way it works is that 6 people have to mark as "valid" one after another for the ban to kick in. If 5 people mark as "valid" and then one marks as "invalid" the counter is reset.
