What does it mean? What purpose does that message serve to Nicholas, because the t-shirt was shown to him.

It's tough to have a cast ensemble like Joaquin Phoenix and Gaga and fumble the movie to such an extent it is unwatchable. And yet they were able to do that.

@User1865345 that's WB for you. They always hire unconventional director and once there project get hit they interfere enough to ruin it. They did that with Tim Burton , then suicide squad , then Zack Snyder
