Q: Identifying the albino pirate in Pan (2015)

OmegacronI'm attempting to identify the androgynous albino pirate seen in Pan (2015). Q: What do the spear and watermelon jokes in "Airplane!" mean?

freeling10In the awesome 1980 comedy Airplane!, there are two jokes that make no sense and I've never been able to find an adequate explanation for them. Is anyone able to shed some light? Near the end of the film, Rex Kramer (Robert Stack) arrives at the control tower to help Ted Striker (Robert Hays) la...

Yeah, I guess. You would have to be familiar with the movie to get the "surely" thing. I thought that it was clever...but, well.

A J
oh

4:31 AM
It's not a big deal...like I said, only people familiar with the movie would get it ;)
I always thought that the spear represented "a long time ago" like a hunting spear that would be used a long time ago...as for the watermelon, I always interpreted that as just dropping something heavy "right down to the ground" I believe that McCroskey slams his hand on the desk as well when he's saying it. Great question, btw! Love the fact that you added "surely" in your question! Haha! — steelersquirrel 15 hours ago

Q: Have movies successfully defied pre-screening tests?

Tyler DurdenIn many cases movies have been altered after pre-screening tests. A notorious example is Little Shop of Horrors (1986). In the original ending, Audrey and Seymour are devoured and the plant takes over the world. Supposedly, pre-screening audiences did not like this ending so the studio redid it....

@MovieReel uhuuunnnn

@MovieReel This could be an interesting question if OP didn't hold such animosity towards Valley Girls and Santa Monicans.

I still don't like it

I guess that it would be considered trivia or something?

@MovieReel How can we answer that

There are movies that are notorious for changing endings due to feedback from test audiences...
I only know of Fatal Attraction and Little shop of horrors like OP mentioned.
Oh...he's asking the opposite. Oh. My mistake. I misread the question.

> That's not really how ZAZ work
What is ZAZ?

I was wondering the same thing.

Isabelle Geffroy (born 1 May 1980 in Tours, France), better known by the nickname Zaz, is a French singer-songwriter who mixes jazzy styles, French variety, soul and acoustic. She is famous for her hit "Je veux", from her first album, Zaz, released on 10 May 2010. == Early life == Her mother was a Spanish teacher, and her father worked for an electric company. In 1985, she entered the Conservatoire de Tours with her sister and her brother, attending courses from the ages of five to eleven. She studied music theory, specifically the violin, piano, guitar, and choral singing. In 1994, she moved to...
She looks good

WTF does that have to do with what Walt said earlier? ;)

zaz*: verb. to listen to your headphones with the volume up so loud that people around you can hear your music
zaz*: Zaz is slang for anything cool. It is most commonly used for something awesome and/or cute.
**ZaZ**: German slang word used in a racist remark meaning "shit covered monkeyboy"
sheesh i thought i could smell shit and banana's its ZaZ.

@AJ It's the first movie in a long time that I've genuinely regretted going to see. It's not that it's an awful movie (it's not a good one either), it's just that I'm a big fan of Affleck as a director and this ended up being really disappointing in comparison to his previous movies.

@Walt No, no. That one. I can't give a link to that one now as I'm at work.

@Walt lol
@SQB You mean not for me :P

@DrRDizzle You can just pander to the masses and go with the requisite The Wolf Of Bald Street

@Walt I might combine the two and go for The Wolf of BAUld Street, just to really confuse everyone.

@DrRDizzle Then spend the rest of the review explaining the pun and ignoring the movie
I'd read that!
@AJ OK, gotcha. And ditto. :(
(Though the linking policy here is not as strict)
I'll just get back to what I do best: Trying not to get fired
ttfn :)

10:25 AM
"You see, AU is the chemical symbol for the element gold, which is the susbtance this film is centered around. Additionally, Matthew McConaughey's character in this film is bald, so I've replaced the "a" in "bald" with the chemical symbol for gold in order to link the two. Finally, the film looks a like like Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, so I have replaced the word "wall" with my combination of "bald" and the chemical symbol for gold to make a three-layers deep pun. 4 stars."
Hell, I could go one further and call it The Gold of BAUld Street, but at that point we're just being silly.

@AJ Oh, nice. I hadn't seen that one before actually.
@AJ Very nice indeed. I like all of them except possibly "candyhere".

@Randal'Thor Thanks. What about candyhere? That was the tough one.

@AJ A problem with it, in my view (bearing in mind that I didn't try to solve it before looking through the solutions), is that the words in the film title are sort of in the wrong order to match the clue.
If the title was "Hereafter Sweet", the clue would be perfect.

Oh
herecandy could work too.
I suppose

Sort of.
That's not perfect either, but it might be better than candyhere.

Q: How are dementors born and propagated? Plus, can they die?

pieter-jan goemanMy question is very short; I don't think it's handled in the books or movies, but yesterday, I was wonderring about dementors. How are they born? Do they propagate like humans/animals? Also, can they die, and if yes, how? Thanks!

@AnkitSharma It's pretty much like Scream 4. Starts at a funeral where a daughter's attacked by her dead mom and then burned alive in her coffin. This turns out to be a horror movie that a girl and her boyfriend are watching at a drive in theater. The girl goes to get some popcorn and is attacked by her boyfriend who's now a zombie or something. But this also turns out to be a music video that the actual movie's heroine is watching on TV.
But second layer's a music video, so never knew if it counts.

@Walt WOW

4:27 PM
@Walt Yeah. I can't believe that I didn't know that already! I'm huge fan of their movies, especially Airplane! The lightbulb just came on when Ankit was "guessing" what it might be ;)
@NapoleonWilson I'm talking about when I saw it in the theater, silly bean! Not when you and I "watched" it ;)

I got it right away!
@steelersquirrel Ah, I see. ;-)

@steelersquirrel oh hai!

> Oh, hi Mark!

@steelersquirrel one of my fiancé's favorite words is zazzy

@NapoleonWilson That's because you're far more awesome and smarter than I am ;)
@DForck42 Hehehe!! It's so cool that you're saying "fiance" now!

4:31 PM
@steelersquirrel lol

@steelersquirrel fiancé.
Wait, fiancée actually.

@NapoleonWilson I don't have that thing on my tablet!

While nowadays both is possible, I saw a photo. ;-)

my browser just puts the accent on fiancé for me

...unless you were the woman in that photo, which might be entirely possible, too.

4:33 PM
Mine doesn't. I even tried to and I can't. Napoleon will just have to keep correcting me over it ;-(

But I'm sure you referred to "her" in the past.

@NapoleonWilson What in the heck are you even talking about? He's engaged to girl. Gheez ;)

@steelersquirrel Because a fiancé is a boy, and a fiancée is a girl.
Who's the English person here? ;-P

Argh! Like I know...I was engaged for like 2 seconds. I never got to use the word :(
I'm glad that you're around to set us all straight, though ;)
Now that I think about it, Rand set me straight on this a while ago...when I was engaged to a mango and would use that word. Oops ;)

@steelersquirrel he used to correct me too in chat and AJ too but now both of them lost all hope in me
@NapoleonWilson I had no idea about it

4:44 PM
@AnkitSharma I'm sure that he will continue to correct me ;)

I honestly don't care enough to correct it
as far as I can tell they pronounced the same, so...

@DForck42 You can't anyway.

@NapoleonWilson I meant my spelling of fiancée

Me too.

<confused squirrel>

4:49 PM
Gheez, I was just referring to the fact that it's too late to edit the message. Not that it would matter in the slightest bit, I was just joking around.

@NapoleonWilson He means that he doesn't care enough to correct it in the future, silly! You misinterpreted it ;)

@steelersquirrel I see.

blah

GUESS WHAT?!?!?!

What?
You have a fiancé? :'(

4:51 PM
I talked my dad into going and seeing Blood Wars with me today!

@steelersquirrel I haven't heard of that, what is it?

@NapoleonWilson Yes. I'm sorry that you have to find out this way...:P

@steelersquirrel Oh yeah, I read that already. Cool!
Has he even seen the previous films?

@DForck42 The new Underworld movie!!

@steelersquirrel ahh

4:53 PM
@NapoleonWilson Er, I don't know. I doubt it.

@steelersquirrel Well, he watches many cool things, though.
We'll probably go watch The Return of Xander Cage! next week. \o/

@NapoleonWilson What in the eff is that?

@steelersquirrel xXx 3, duh!
> Welcome to the Xander Zone!

I'm probably not gonna see that one
I do want to take my nieces to see Sing though

@DForck42 Cool! How old are they?
@NapoleonWilson Meh.

4:59 PM
