@SeanGallardy it probably is pine - I'm not actually certain. I'm painting it so I wasn't super concerned about it, and just went for low price.

@HannahVernon Ahhh I thought you were going to leave it natural and maybe put on a clear coat or something.
@ErikDarling great seats!

@SeanGallardy I really prefer clear coat, but unfortunately the rest of the garage is painted already

@J.D. a few rows down from a rather empty HG box 🥸

@ErikDarling 😢. No shows or dicking around / left early, I would guess. Sorry mate.

How do you do that for three or more values, e.g. least(5,6,7,8,9)? — user1822 Sep 20, 2018 at 10:42
i'm doing a dumb right now
is this a real greatest() workaround for versions where it's needed?
the nested iff() solution i mean
i feel like i'm staring at this and missing some super obvious way to make nested iif() work in an un-stupid way dbfiddle.uk/wXMGQxmZ
dbfiddle.uk/4oiU1fyw?hide=12 (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
like... i know it's possible but... is there a cleaner way to do it than this? dbfiddle.uk/-n_UKM6v?hide=24
i feel like surely there must be >﹏<
17:33
No, the greatest workaround is the max of the cross apply values - the Erik's answer.
need something i can use in an indexed view
it me
take a look at that mapview 💪
iff you think you can handle it
18:03
@PeterVandivier you can use greatest and least in an indexed view
since they're row aggregates
on 2019
🥲
many, many CUs behind - just in case it's been patched in at some point
nope, 2022 only

save me from myself dbfiddle.uk/B6yno7Rj
it seems you've chosen your destiny
I want to add 5 more values to your list
if only i'd solved for the general case
all of this to have problems with indexed views later down the road
19:53
@ErikDarling We're upping to 2022 soon, and this is the feature I'm most excited for. 😅
but brent says 2022 isn't ready for production

Not sure if this is main-site worthy, but the latest security patch for SQL 2017 has two additional files than I expected to see (and 2 more than the patches for SQL 2016 and 2019), I'm not sure what they are:
> Version: 14.0.3471.2
> Date Published: 7/9/2024
> File Name:
> SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe 1.1GB
> SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe 451.5 MB
> SQLServer2017-KB5040940-x64.exe 538.7 MB
the last file looks like I expect, but what are the other 2? and do I need them to patch existing SQL 2017 instances?
viruses obvs
my guess is they are updates that apply directly to the 2017 install disk image, but that's just a guess
The EXPR is for Express, EXPRADV is for Express with Advanced Services
@PeterVandivier This seems like a pleasant pattern to me: dbfiddle.uk/JwrhTMMq
Ok. Never seen a patch with different edition-specific installers.
It used to be very common
Standard, one might say
DECLARE
    @A integer = 5,
    @B integer = 4,
    @C integer = 3,
    @D integer = 2,
    @E integer = 1;

SELECT
    Most =
        CASE
            WHEN @A >= ISNULL(@B, @A) AND @A >= ISNULL(@C, @A) AND @A >= ISNULL(@D, @A) AND @A >= ISNULL(@E, @A) THEN @A
            WHEN @B >= ISNULL(@C, @B) AND @B >= ISNULL(@D, @B) AND @B >= ISNULL(@E, @B) THEN @B
            WHEN @C >= ISNULL(@D, @C) AND @C >= ISNULL(@E, @C) THEN @C
            WHEN @D >= ISNULL(@E, @D) THEN @D
            ELSE @E
        END;
22:39
Or, if you prefer IIF:
SELECT
    Most =
        IIF(@A >= ISNULL(@B, @A) AND @A >= ISNULL(@C, @A) AND @A >= ISNULL(@D, @A) AND @A >= ISNULL(@E, @A), @A,
            IIF(@B >= ISNULL(@C, @B) AND @B >= ISNULL(@D, @B) AND @B >= ISNULL(@E, @B), @B,
                IIF(@C >= ISNULL(@D, @C) AND @C >= ISNULL(@E, @C), @C,
                    IIF(@D >= ISNULL(@E, @D), @D, @E))));
u r 2 mch
ur friendly copilot
what prompted u to do that
