@ErikDarling I like them all, including the later reverse side rope text. Can't split them
Isn't the Big Top full of 🤡🤡🤡 though?
It's a brand association but maybe not the good kind
Irony and context notwithstanding

@ErikDarling "Big top" makes me think of circuses. Then again "♫ Send in the ... ♫" etc.
Good morning all.

I've got an interesting problem. App calls a proc which updates a single row in a table (< 0sec) but only releases the lock after 30 sec. The proc isn't nested and there should be no transaction created in the app (as far as I've been told)
The only suspicious thing was that the connection is using MARS, but I don't know enough about it
there is probably a 30 seconds to MARS joke somewhere

@Zikato Curious, how are you measuring lock time outside of the runtime?
lock acquired/released vs module_start/end
ASYNC_NETWORK_IO
@Zikato Do you know if the query is generated by EF / EF Core?
No significant wait stats, no EF / EF Core.

> there should be no transaction created in the app (as far as I've been told)
You've been OPed
It's possible, but I lack the skill to debug that on the app side
@Zikato is that measured via Extended Events, or what's your trace tool of choice here?
extended events
I think it must be a transaction somewhere. Because the blocked process report shows an unrelated procedure as the main blocker.

But I don't know how to prove it or trace it further
is there a trigger involved somewhere
foreign key nonsense
implicit transactions
i wonder if mars needs implicit transactions for some reason
12:58 PM
MARS is quite weird
But I don't know heaps about its detailed behaviour with locks and whatnot
Transactions get batch-scoped
Since it spans (at least) two separate RPC calls then it must be on the app side, right?
1:13 PM
it?
transaction (I presume)
or anything else that would keep the locks
