Ideally one should smoke, drink, and eat dark chocolate every day just in case

@ypercubeᵀᴹ The French Paradox - but it seems to be falling out of favour - statistical anomalies. It appears to be hand-waving to an extent - the jury is still out - people who have Mediterranean diets tend to also drink wine, the Med (and associated other seas - Aegean...) being a major production region!
I hasten to add that I'm not an anti-alcohol Nazi and believe that alcohol in small quantities can have benefits as well as problems - the benefits are more intangible certainly, but worthy of consideration in any decision to consume.
The ravages of excess consumption are completely accepted by the scientific community - it's the definition of "excess" that is, apparently, problematic.

12:34 AM
Definiton of an alcoholic - "Someone who drinks more than you do!" :-)
And the Mediterranean diet might "compensate" for the wine consumption - if they ate the diet without the wine, they might live longer. As far as I know, nobody has yet been discovered who has the diet and doesn't consume wine. :-)

Jesus! The videos from Memphis are nothing short of disgusting/appalling/disgraceful! Tyre Nichols was kicked (more than once) in the head as he lay handcuffed on the ground) and then another cop started wailing on him with a baton and then when he's standing up after all of this punishment, they're punching him in the head. It looks more like sadism than police work! Apparently, he weighed 150 lb (68kg) - so, not a big man and was subdued - and he was pepper sprayed around 3 times.
Shocking - it's something I might expect from extremely repressive regimes, but not a country that calls itself a democracy!

1:15 AM
@Vérace no you

@ErikDarling Sorry - not getting the meaning of "no you"?

it is an intentionally laconic reply meant to infer that you are guilty of whatever you are accusing someone else of
e.g. the alcoholism "more than you" thing

I should have written "Someone who drinks more than one does!" ?

no, i would have said the same thing
that's the beauty of it

One does oneself?

1:24 AM
yes
the point of it is that it's a bit ignorant, and, well, drunken

It was meant as humour - as clearly evidenced by the smiley - a) I don't think I'm ignorant and b) I'm definitely not inebriated!

that's not what i'm saying
the "no you" thing is meant that way
i know you're joking
so am i

Fair enough - you're "joshing" with me as you Americans are wont to say!

yes or bonoing you, as they say in ireland

I certainly wouldn't like to be "Bono-ed" (whatever that is... the mind boggleth!).

1:32 AM
yeah, the only thing worse is being edged

My word - we're certainly getting down and dirty with the innuendo! I don't fancy being "Edge-ed" or "Bono-ed" or boned by anyone! :-) Where did you come acros the phrase "bonoing" - never even heard it before (or come across anything remotely similar...).

12 hours later…

If you get edged, your emoji won't display properly

don't you render, you bad boy! restrain those pixels!

3:48 PM
> Retired NATO general Petr Pavel wins the Czech presidential election on Saturday.
My Czech mate did well

4:01 PM

I hear the other candidate was a cabbage

2 hours later…
6:05 PM

6:22 PM
Pretty sure that's how Babiš is pronounced
Languages can be tricky though

@ErikDarling Not my favourite person either - all talk about social justice but doesn't hesitate to avoid taxation in his native country.
