2:46 AM
wonder why there's a wait in sql server 2022 called PLPGSQL

2 hours later…
4:25 AM
Well you can call python and R from T-SQL
Someone with super-human humbleness could work something out from there

9 hours later…
1:43 PM
@PaulWhite that doesn't sound like the procedural language/postgresql to me

@ErikDarling I have no idea how humble PLPGSQL is

get a clue
i am going to a baseball game today

1:58 PM
@ErikDarling ?

why would r and python suddenly start emitting a wait called plpgsql in sql server 2022 when they've been around for a few versions
plpgsql isn't based on either one to my knowledge
seems an odd choice

2:25 PM
@ErikDarling I mean SQL Server can already access external scripting engines like R and python
sp_execute_external_script
    @language = N'language',
    @script = N'script'
    [ , @input_data_1 = N'input_data_1' ]
    [ , @input_data_1_name = N'input_data_1_name' ]
    [ , @input_data_1_order_by_columns = N'input_data_1_order_by_columns' ]
    [ , @input_data_1_partition_by_columns = N'input_data_1_partition_by_columns' ]
    [ , @output_data_1_name = N'output_data_1_name' ]
    [ , @parallel = 0 | 1 ]
    [ , @params = N'@parameter_name data_type [ OUT | OUTPUT ] [ ,...n ]' ]
    [ , @parameter1 = 'value1' [ OUT | OUTPUT ] [ ,...n ] ]

yeah
and java
how could you forget java

right

i guess i was curious if this indicated some closer integration with postgres
perhaps something cloudy

One might think so
But it could be something else too
One just never knows with these things until they're announced

well
time to tweet some highly speculative nonsense
i can push my "microsoft is buying postgres and replacing standard edition with it" conspiracy theory

2:33 PM
open source conspiracies are the best

3:02 PM
@PaulWhite hah

😀

4 hours later…
7:02 PM
Morning
