So, in the beginning there was a finance department that didn't need I.T. interfering and went it alone. They got in a cheap consulting firm (no prizes for guessing where) to do their data systems. Then they insisted they could go it alone with the IFRS17 project - "We don't need IT for this" and when it started to go pear-shaped they circled the wagons. £15 million later and it's falling apart at the seams. The Schadenfreude in the Teams chats is palpable.

For half the price I'll fix it

@ErikDarling I'm just reviewing (read: picking apart and trying to make sense of) the psicle models they're using to calculate the bookings. The main calculation model (singlar) has 1,440 processing steps and is a graphic demonstration of the Deutsch limit in action.
And don't get me started on managing requirements for a £15m business and technology change project in Jira.

at some point you just have to buy jira as part of the project

@ErikDarling Jira just entered my 'death by' list. This is defined as the list of applications where someone has used the phrase 'death by xxxx' to describe the fallout from abusing it. Death by Excel, death by Qlikview, death by Sharepoint, death by Jira.
