Morning.
So who has been tinkering with SQL 2022?

@McNets Good to hear!

@PaulWhite Thanks

Nice!

yay 😐

another feature is UNIQUE NULLS NOT DISTINCT which allows indexes and unique constraints to behave similar to SQL Server/Sybase unique constraints

Speaking of which SQL Server 2022 CTP 2 is out as well

GREATEST, LEAST, GENERATE_SERIES, DATE_BUCKET, WINDOW clause, IGNORE|RESPECT NULLS

Both links are dead — Paul White ♦ 6 hours ago
i caught that yesterday. sadly the wayback machine has a bug where azure feedback forums don't display and the pages weren't caught by Google cache
debated asking in here if i should just delete the answer or if it's useful for context but decided it was too much effort
looks like the effort found me 😛

@PeterVandivier You might be able to find the feedback on the new feedback site
Most of it was moved across, AIUI

2:10 PM
idk what the new feedback site even is off the top of my head
after az feedback went down and i noticed the wayback machine bug i lost a lot of faith

@PeterVandivier So did we all. Anyway the link that should always work is aka.ms/sqlfeedback
@PeterVandivier My first reaction was to delete it
But I didn't have long enough to think about it at the time

looks like both requests got copied over to the new site anyhow
i'll update the links

ok sweet

@ypercubeᵀᴹ now i hate postgres too. shame.

A chaired - Morning all!

6:52 PM
GREATEST & LEAST can be very handy - I remember having to jump through hoops to emulate on a couple of SQL Server questions!

7:15 PM
@Vérace-СлаваУкраїні i'm sorry that my canonical answer isn't good enough for you 😘

7:26 PM
Which one is that, Eric? Guessing a MIN/MAX with CROSS APPLY Values?

yep
though i'm not sure how canonical it is

I had a presentation on what's new in SQL Server 2022 just last Friday (before it dropped). To have some demos, I've used Azure SQL Database to showcase the GREATEST, LEAST, WINDOW and STRING_SPLIT because it was already there
and Azure SQL Edge in docker had the IGNORE/RESPECT NULLS and DATE_BUCKET. No GENERATE_SERIES though

A: Does SQL Server support GREATEST and LEAST, if not what is the common workaround?

Erik DarlingOne common method is to use the VALUES clause, and CROSS APPLY the two columns aliased as a single column, then get the MIN and MAX of each. SELECT MIN(x.CombinedDate) AS least, MAX(x.CombinedDate) AS greatest FROM dbo.Users AS u CROSS APPLY ( VALUES ( u.CreationDate ), ( u.LastAccessDate )) AS...

Oh and sorry, I misspelt your name there :(

7:58 PM
@ErikDarling Sorry - the reference escapes me? To what are you referring? Was there meant to be a link?
