Hah that's always the way it goes!

12:28 AM
So the sidebar tells me the what, but what about the why? Why the Heap?...I'm usually more of a B-Tree guy. 🙃

HALLO MY PEOPLE.

I have a few (nested) views which I then supply to EF. What can go wrong? ... ;)

Q: PostgreSql subquery evaluated without filtering

AdycI am struggling to optimize the following query: SELECT tbA.id, tbB.createDate FROM tbA LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT id, MAX(createDate) sd createDate FROM tb GROUP BY id) as tbB ON tbA.id=tbB.id WHERE tbA.someDate >= '2021-05-11' and tbA.someDate <= '2021-05-12' Both tables have a comparable numbe...

@J.D. The room was originally named the Clustered Index, but that implies a bit more structure than is usually accurate here.

Pondering why this discussion is called The Clustered Index - can't see a key. Rename to The Heap?
Nov 14 '11 at 15:18, by gbn
@SQLkiwi like it. clustered implies organisation and order
etc.
Wow that's getting on for a decade ago

10:50 AM
Might take you a while to read the whole transcript.
Certainly well worth it though. Very little nonsense or idle chatter here.
Yes sir.

lol cool, thanks mates! Also, morning. 🙂

1 hour later…
11:55 AM
So, did you have to scan the entire Heap all the way back to find that message, or is there a secondary index?

12:25 PM
Good point. Yes, there is a secondary index.

1:21 PM
Morning all.
I'd like to moan about SQL Server CDC. When we turn it on programmatically it doesn't start cleanly and returns misleading LSNs. There, that feels better; good to get it off my chest. Thanks for listening.

Programmatically?

1:41 PM
In a stored proc as opposed to the GUI. We reinitialise CDC when loading a new source table into the data warehouse. Sometimes it tells fibs.
@J.D. hello JD. You've been really active recently.

He's going boldly where no one has gone before.

Dunedin?

:-) I've been there. I liked it.

Now we could talk about Hamilton
A lot of people rag on Palmerston North, but I'm fond of it and can't see the issue
Mind you I liked Melbourne so

2:02 PM
I guess I must have passed through Palmerston a couple of times. Honestly though, don't remember it.

that's cold
Palmerston North (; Māori: Te Papa-i-Oea) is a city in the North Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Manawatū-Whanganui region. Located in the eastern Manawatu Plains, the city is near the north bank of the Manawatu River, 35 km (22 mi) from the river's mouth, and 12 km (7 mi) from the end of the Manawatu Gorge, about 140 km (87 mi) north of the capital, Wellington. Palmerston North is the country's eighth-largest urban area, with an urban population of 81,500 (June 2020).The official limits of the city take in rural areas to the south, north-east, north-west and west of the main urban area...

In my defence, it was a while ago, and likely I was trying to get somewhere. Not a strong defence, I'll admit.

Quarantine-free travel is available 🙂
day trip to palmy
I sense an imminent Irish greeting

I could just about fit it in!
.. and since you esteme Melbourne, you could come do another SQL Saturday. I think they're contemplating one in Spring.

2:12 PM
What's it called now post-PASS?
Data Saturday or somesuch?

@PaulWhite I could proffer one, but Ulster Scots is nowhere as nice as Gaelic.

@billinkc Barney throws a good punch
@MichaelGreen It's unusual to see @Vérace's avatar enter without one
Maybe his other half has control of the hardware today

Morning

@PaulWhite something like that. The local user group rebranded to Azure Data User Group.
Maybe I should submit a presentation on MySQL?

2:22 PM
yikes

@MichaelGreen Hey Michael! Yes, a few months back I decided to give back what I can to the community that helped me grow my SQL knowledge. 🙂 Still getting in the groove, but I'm finding its been a more pleasurable way to spend my free time than Reddit lol.

I started when I got a management role because I still wanted to stay current. That job's long past, but I'm glad I landed here. It's a nice bunch of folks.

3:10 PM
Aside from Bill

We offer many sides, not just one. Corn, mashed taters and gravy, fries, coleslaw and of course, biscuits - slather them with butter and honey and you'll be moments from heaven

🤣 nice

😁 I love sides, favorite part of the meal at Boston Market. Mac n cheese especially.
