@Lamak coming back on your MCT remarks: Where could I find a good source for basic technical information (non-advertisement, non-blurb) on the Power BI topic?

@JohnK.N. what do you need to know?

12:37 PM
@JohnK.N. I have some official courses that can share with you

@Lamak Basically what we were discussing. Minimum requirements to run / install Power BI and then analyse data. I'd like to be able to point my colleague in the right directions, as he proclaimed: "We need Enterprise Edition".

@JohnK.N. that's just idiotic
you don't even need a RDBMS
you can have everything in flat files, or excel files
I'm gonna look for some technical documentation, but this are the requirements for the attendees of the "Dashboard In a Day" course, so aside of Power BI Desktop, this is what they need:

@Lamak Thanks Lamak

12:54 PM
@JohnK.N. do you have an email to send you a pdf file with the instructions for the first session of that course?, it goes into the details of what's needed to access data
that's a course about data modeling in Power BI
you'll notice a strange lack of "SQL Server Enterprise Edition", "SSAS" and "SSRS"

@Lamak Big Data mentions SSAS in this slide/picture

@JohnK.N. yeah, it can connect to it....you don't need it though
it's just another data source

Just what I was thinking.

2:10 PM
@Lamak fantastic. Thanks for the PDF and PPTX. I think I want to learn Power BI now.

@JohnK.N. lol, glad it helped!
I can send you the full course, no problem

@Lamak no hurry. I'm still absorbing the first load of information.

👍

Good morning
Where is @Vérace? I need more stories of Ireland and frozen over canals to entertain me.

I'm still looking for that bucket of motivation I lost half a year ago.

@JohnK.N. what happened half a year ago?. Power BI it's pretty nice to learn though

@Lamak Lock down thingy. WFH/HomO

@bbaird Hi - I've been taking a break from all things I(C)T over the past while - myself and the fiancee have been doing up the appartment and I've only been checking news sites from time to time. I have glanced at dba.se from time to time but have been refraining from direct engagement.
The weather here has been comparatively mild over the last threee weeks of so - (high pressure zone - relatively stable, so we have temps from ~ 4 - 9 with very little wind - this has meant a lot of mist and fog - lovely photo in the paper today of two people crossing a pedestrian bridge in the centre of Dublin, in the mist, with the dawn sun in the background.
Fear not though, I shall return in my never-ending quest to improve me unicorn-point score - I have been doing a bit of queue reveiwing as well - my fiancee says I should go on a 12-step programme for my dba.se addiction! :-) So, I''ve decided to lay off a bit for a while... Take care, talk soon fellow heapers!

6:59 PM
@JohnK.N. ah yeah, I thought that had started earlier
