Good morning
@ypercubeᵀᴹ oof, that's a doozy

@CadeRoux - meant to ask after that cube/rollup question - is your background in math?

@bbaird It is

@CadeRoux I somehow got a BS in Mathematics, which I think reflects poorly on my alma mater

My year was a huge disappointment to our directors of studies - they are probably still embarassed to this day. Out of 8 starting mathematicians, 2 switched after the first year (law and divinity) and not a single first in any of 3 years.

@CadeRoux - I did Genetics in College - nobody in our two senior years got a first (>25% went on to Ph.D.s) - rather it reflects well on a department that they're not handing first class honours degrees like they were smarties - just for reference for non-English speakers, a smarty is a sweet/candy! (<snarky comment> if only the same could be said of other departments...</snarky comment>...

lo
lol

5:32 PM
what's a "first"?

So Biml is a thing for making SSIS packages programmatically. I have an alert set on those questions as the volume is trivial and I'm likely the only person to answer them
Holy cow, stackoverflow.com/users/9517769/sandra-guilep-zouaoui-zandeh fired off an answer in no time and it's a fine enough answer
Good for them... but it stuck in my craw as it just seemed off
StrangePerson has asked 4 questions stackoverflow.com/users/15012638/strangeperson And they've all been marked as answered by Sandra Guilep Zouaoui Zandeh
So, seems like the former is a sock pupet-esque account for them, yeah?
Do we care? Meta-nerds, is it a violation? If so, what's the protocol?

@billinkc That's... odd. One says "Data Analyst at FIS" and US, other is Tunis, Tunisia?
I checked Glassdoor, data analysts at FIS are not getting paid well.

Glassdoor can be a treasure trove of information on places you don't ever want to be employed at. I love reading the 1-2 star reviews because they always dish where the bodies are buried

@ypercubeᵀᴹ Exam results for each year at Cambridge are classified by departments as first, upper second, lower second and third, with some occasional rare categories for allowed to proceed without honours and did not satisfy the examiners. A starred first result means a distinction in the exam. Degrees are not classified at the end, however.

6:08 PM
New rule: I will not answer any questions where every table has id as the primary "key".
Unless the question is: "How do I get rid of these dumb ids?"

Curious thing happened in Ghost Records:
Max unfroze the room, only for it to get frozen a day later

6:40 PM
@CadeRoux @ypercubeᵀᴹ In T.C.D., it's I - first class honours (a "first"), II<sub>1</sub> - second class, first division , a "two-one", II<sub>2</sub> - second class, second division and a III - third class, a "third" (might as well be a turd! :-) - also called a "pass".
First is considered excellent, 2.1 is very good, 2.2 is decent enough and a 3 is, well, "they did their best..."

@CadeRoux @Vérace thanx.
That 2:1 I had seen it in job searches and had baffled me at the time.

You and your crazy metric system

2:2 was often referred to as a Desmond. When people still knew who Desmond Tutu was.

And a III was a "Douglas", in English (the country, not the language) parlance at least...
@ypercubeᵀᴹ - more than you'll ever want to know...
But TCD is moving with the times - we now have percentages as well as the "old-fashioned" grading system!

6:57 PM
interesting

It's all part of the semesterisation programme, at least in Europe- where students will be able to transfer credits from one institution to another... the Brits dropped out of Erasmus - pity - I met many Continental students who enjoyed their Erasmus time in Britain - another Pyrrhic "victory" for the Brexiteers!

7:14 PM
Greek universities grade from 0 to 10.
You only get a classification as above when you get a degree (usually 4 years)
so Excellent is for average 8.5+
Very Good for 6.5 - 8.49
Good for 5.0 - 6.49
I guess it matches roughly the 1st, 2nd, 3rd of yours
@billinkc the 1st is member for only 13 day, has asked 4 question. The 2nd, Sandra gal, is a member for 2 years and has 310 posts..

@ypercubeᵀᴹ - in France, my other expérience universitaire, it's from 0 - 20 - vingt sur vingt is excellent - used colloquially for something really cool... like 100% or 10 out of 10...
Primary school homeworks/quizzes are normally out of 10!
@billinkc - you mentioned fonts the other day and I uploaded an image of the Chi-Rho page from the Book of Kells... I'm about the nestle down with "Just my Type" by Simon Garfield - a book about fonts - anybody read it?
Just out of curiosity, does anyone here (who doesn't have an Irish connection) know much (or anything indeed) about the Book of Kells?

7:29 PM
puts his hand back down after reading the disclaimer
